Pretty typical for a Mexican restaurant. A couple of things that stand out to me: 1. The portions are gigantic. I’m not talking just double the size of a regular meal… More like 5 times the size. Seriously. I ordered a quesadilla that contained chorizo, chicken, onions, peppers, etc. and it was a big as the oversized platter and so stuffed full of ingredients that it looked like a mountain on the plate. If I wasn’t so gluttonous, I could’ve eaten on that thing for a week. Not kidding. Summary: enormous portions. 2. Another thing I really liked about this place was that the servers and employees were super friendly. I’ve found this to be the case at most Mexican restaurants, but just wanted to emphasize that we had great service. Overall, the taste of the food is pretty much what you can expect from these types of Mexican places. I really enjoyed my experience here and will certainly be back.

I’m not sure why all the low ratings for this location, especially from several reviewers who seem to have little bad to say about the place. Service here is always very fast and very friendly, and most of the staff seem to speak impeccable English. The prices are slightly higher than some other local Mexican chains and restaurants, but still incredibly reasonable. And the portions are definitely far larger and the quality far better than most other chains and restaurants. One reviewer was correct, the interior could be updated. And a separate bar would be great for watching soccer or other games. But it’s still well organized and very clean — not the type of place you’re going to find rips on seats or anything. The food tastes great for a Mexican chain — definitely much better than the alternatives.

I don’t know what’s with all the low ratings here — Los Aztecas is great and by far the best Mexican food in Louisville for the price. Do you like 150% OFMEALFOR75% OFTHEPRICE? How about AMAZINGCHIPSANDSALSA? And do you enjoy A CASUAL, FRIENDLYATMOSPHEREANDSTAFF? And what about SUPPORTINGLOCALBUSINESS? And finally, do you often like to partake in DELICIOUSFOODANDCONGENIALCONVERSATIONAMONGFRIENDSANDFAMILY? The fajitas and acapulco quesadilla are legendary. The food is delicious and the menu is absolutely huge. You really can’t go wrong.

Let’s get straight to the nitty gritty. The food here is just mediocre. Having said this, I agree with another reviewer in that there aren’t too many Mexican places in Louisville that will floor you. Los Aztecas will get you your Mexican food fix at some reasonable prices and with some great drink specials. Even if the food is just mediocre, the service is excellent. The waiters there are always in a good mood and helpful. They keep the chips and salsa flowing along with the dos equis. At the very least Los Aztecas is good for cheap beer, large portions, and good service. That’s good enough for me on most days. I wish I could give it 3.5 stars.

Service is definitely fast and friendly. We only tried two items: the chile rellenos and the jalapeño poppers. The jalapeño poppers were a baked and not fried, therefore the cheese was not very hot or melted. It also tasted a bit flat. The rellenos were huge and large servings but the cheese was bland and overwhelming. It was much better with a bottled sauce we bought at whole foods. The only thing we completely finished in the first sitting was the salsa and chips. We are still in search of a great Mexican food place in Louisville, KY. The restaurant definitely has fast and friendly service with large portions. The food leaves much to be desired. guest review by Tom

Fast service, friendly staff & big portions of food! But not the best tasting Mexican food I’ve had. The restaurant’s interior is outdated, definitely needs a makeover. The Men’s Bathroom is just across one of the tables, not appetizing at all!

Celebrated Cinco de Mayo with the $ 2.50 Margarita special and Enchiladas de Mole. My tablemates had the chile relleno and burritos. Everyone was pleased with the food. I loved the corn tortillas, authentic menus, and fast seating. TIP: Wednesdays and Thursdays they have a $ 2.50 margarita and $ 2.75 Mexican beer special, and the margaritas are a steel. Also, they have a puch card for the combo plates at the register. Buy 9 plates, get 1 free. Not the absolute best mexican Ive ever had, but good, fast, clean, and dependable. We’ll be back.
