Mussel and Burger Bar

I can’t say enough good things about this restaurant. I rarely give 5 stars because that implies that a place meets all criteria and very few actually do. However this one hits all of the high points. The décor is very elegant, the waitstaff is very friendly and helpful and the food was amazing! I am hoping to go back to Louisville in the future because I want to go to this restaurant again!

The mussels were good. Loved the atmosphere but why paper tablecloths? The veggie burger had an odd taste. Overall was not happy with this place and the price

I really liked this place. Was my first time there. (On a mission to try all the restaurants in Louisville and review!) Lol. Anyway. I loved the atmosphere of this place, it was comfy. The servers were so nice. One server who was not even our server was helping out. The food was great. I love the burger selections! I wanted to try at least three, but I am only one person! I will definitely be going back to try the rest! The server did well with my first time visit questions and suggested great menu items!

I have dined at the original location out near JTown several times but just recently made it in to check out the newest location downtown. I was glad to see that the building did not sit empty for very long at all. The architecture and décor is so nice inside this gem. The bar back is beautiful and I believe an original piece. You have to see it!
The food is tasty and decadent. The burgers range from normal, basic cheeseburger styles to more adventurous burgers and toppings. I always love the fries! And they have seasonal salads that are exactly what you want a real salad to be if you are skipping the carb fest of a burger. Don’t let the burgers and tasty salads overshadow the other delicious items on the menu. The short rib grilled cheese is colossal and amazingly good. The mushroom philly has the right taste, but a bit lacking on the amount of filling (good thing the bread is perfect). Oh, and do not miss the short rib nachos on the app list. :)
I recommend paying this location a visit.

I am writing this review from our dinner which is one of the worst we have ever had. The food is fine but over salted but the service IS THE WORST I HAVE EVER HAD. Our server mixed up every drink, charged us for the appetizer that she messed up, and it is currently taking more than 20 minutes to get our checks right. I will NEVER come back and I love the Louisville food scene!

Being an MBB addict, I of course had to try MBB2. The place is located downtown and is very hip and swanky, and boasts a cool ambiance with high ceilings and exposed brick. The food is top notch (as always), although my usual is a bit more expensive here (the good olé burger) than at the original MBB. I guess that could be because they altered that burger to be the ‘good olé bacon burger’ now. I’ve been twice now, and both times I’ve left more stuffed than a thanksgiving turkey. No complaints here!

I went to this new location for the first time with friends for lunch a couple weeks ago. It was as wonderful of an experience as I’ve had at the location in JTown. I loved St. Charles Exchange, the restaurant that was in the building before, and I was so happy that Mussel and Burger Bar kept a lot of the look. Our service was excellent and friendly — and the food was even better. Rather than a burger, this time I tried a chicken sandwich and it was delicious. This is such a good place for lunch or dinner, and it works for casual occasions as well as special occasions. I can’t recommend it enough!

Yum yum! — AMAZING. We had the pork belly and shrimp appetizer. Incredible. Go! Have some now!

Warm restaurant, great service, fantastic food. We are always on the hunt for a good kids menu. They have it! Eat here.
Kids had chicken tenders and American slider. Mom had salmon tartar taquitos and seafood sliders. Dad, the CEO burger that comes with huge truffle fries. Everything was great.

As close to burger perfection as it gets.
As I was alone, I did not order any apps. But… honestly, I don’t know how I’d choose. I’ll obviously have to come back here frequently and eat my way through the appetizer menu. And the variety of mussels.
As for the burger… As much as I’d like to try others, I don’t know that I could ever come here and not get the CEO. Perfect combination of toppings, topped off with a deftly seared slab of foie gras. And a spot-​on medium rare, as ordered.
Had a couple of MBB Manhattans with dinner. Also very well done. Bar staff was super friendly, and kept their sense of humor even after getting an order for 15 Kentucky Mules at once, from a large group of guys, ¾ of whom could have been named Chad.

I really liked the new downtown location of Mussel And Burger Bar. This past weekend we were looking for a spot to meet some friends who were in town for a night. I had been to the J-​Town location before, so I knew the food would be great, and I was anxious to see what the interior of the previously St. Charles Exchange building was like now. So, I recommended this spot.
They haven’t changed the space much. But, I guess they didn’t have to, that building was nice when they moved in. They’ve added some touches that are specific to Mussel And Burger Bar, like some steer art, and a large decal on the bar. I’ve always loved the bar in that space, it’s huge and very beautiful. I was glad to see it had mostly remained the same.
We had plans later that night, so we only shared an order of the short rib nachos, but man oh man were they delicious! This was my first time trying that dish, and it was awesome. I’ll definitely order that again next time we’re in.
If you haven’t been out to Mussel And Burger Bar yet, because you don’t make it out to the J-​Town area often, definitely head out to this new downtown location. Same awesome food, beautiful atmosphere, and good service.

Love this place! Décor is perfect, dark wood, exposed brick, very chill! The service was far beyond what I anticipated for the name. Fantastic service, our waiter knew the menu to the point we all wanted to come back before we even tried the food. The waiter’s description of the dishes and the chef’s background has us sold!

When I heard that Mussel and Burger Bar was taking over the old St. Charles Exchange space, I 100% F R E A K E D OUT. I used to love the original MBB so much that I made any occasion an excuse to drive all the way out there. Now that there’s an MBB just a few short blocks from work, the possibilities are endless. My quality of life has been improved 1000x. Am I exaggerating? Maybe a little, but not really. Cus I love Mussel and Burger Bar.
The CEO with foie gras will forever be my first love at MBB, but I’ve recently begun trying some new things. I’m happy to say that nothing has disappointed me yet! The Bacon Breakfast Burger is awesome, and the Argentinian is AMAZING. It comes with a delicious, spicy chorizo patty and a side of chimichurri sauce. And when ordering a burger, always, always, always remember that you can sub for your choice of fries for free! I favor the steak fries that come with truffle aioli. They are literally the size of my hands. Unbelievably crispy on the outside and full of steamy, soft potato goodness on the inside.
The mussels are all really good as well. You can order them as an appetizer (10 mussels) or entrée (20 mussels), and I always ask for more bread (from Blue Dog Bakery) on the side to dip in the broth. My go-​to mussels are the lemongrass curry or the chorizo.
Regarding other apps and menu items, I’ve tried the mac and cheese, the salad with goat cheese croquettes, and the short rib nachos. The mac and cheese and the salad are definite winners. As for the short rib nachos, they tasted great at first, but everyone at the table seemed to lose interest after a couple bites. Still worth trying though!

Recently went for a business meeting with 5 others and one week later, I’m still thinking about my burger! Our table had a mix of offerings, including burgers, fries, sweet potato fries, mussels and short rib sandwich. Not one complaint.
I ordered the Spanish blue burger … amazing! But the best surprises was the sweet potato fries and their dipping sauce — a smoking pineapple chutney. If eating a burger, I believe you can request pretzel buns and change up the fries as wanted.
Great atmosphere — mature without being too dark. High ceilings, large bar that takes center stage, great booth seats. Server was on top of things. Can’t wait to go back!

Amazing food but my wife wanted a frozen MMB leomonade, but alas they have no blender.

Everything was delicious. Our table had the Mexican mussels and the curry mussels. Both were great starters. I ordered the BBB burger which was huge and tasted great.
The atmosphere is awesome. Nice big bar. I would definitely come back next time I’m in Louisville.

I was on my way to lunch near my office when I stumbled across M&BB. Honestly, I’m thrilled that it’s within 15 steps of my office because it’s absolutely delicious.
We decided to go in and found out that it was their second day of being open. Great! We knew that there would probably be some growing pains but our lunch break turned into almost a two-​hour lunch. I know that timing will continue to improve as they establish themselves. Minus the timing issue, there was not a flaw. The interior is swanky and the burgers were DELISH. I had the Local Burger and it was absolutely perfect. The french fries are flavorful, as well. Either way, M&BB is a great, much-​needed addition downtown.

The second Mussel and burger bar is as good or even better than the first!
There are a variety of mussels to choose from: curry, chorizo, etc. And all so yummy! I recommend saving the sauce after you polish off the mussels, because they make great fry dipping sauces!
The burgers are amazing, and there is something for everyone, whether you want to be particularly gluttonous and get the CEO, or are vegetarian and get the beet/​mushroom/​quinoa burger. I personally loved the southern belle I ordered here.
I think the restaurant should be called Mussel, burger, and FRIES bar because their fries are phenomenal!!! Once again the sweet potato fries and pineapple dipping sauce was amazing! However the steak fries are also spectacular; what appears to be a potato cut into 4 pieces is actually the perfect crispy and fluffy fry you’ll ever have!
The service at this location was amazing. Such a tentative staff! Even though we had a fairly large group, our waters were always filled and food was served quickly. They also gave great suggestions for what to order.
I said I wouldn’t go out of the way to go to the other mussel and burger bar, but I will be making it here quite frequently, as it’s located in the heart of downtown on main!

I heard M&B Bar was opening downtown! If it is as good as the Jtown location they will be packed every night too!

Five stars all the way. We went at 11:30 on OPENING DAY. The service was top notch, they all worked in perfect concert with each other, and the lunch was fabulous. Short rib nachos are not to be missed. The sweetness of the avocado, the braised beef, the heat from thinly sliced jalepenos, freshness of the pico… really takes this bar app to soaring heights. Bacon wrapped dates, gorgeously hot (temp) with tomato sofrito — i could eat a thousand. I of course had the CEO burger with Foie. I cannot express how awesome it was. Perfectly cooked medium beef with gruyère and Foie. I ordered the pomme frites subbed for the steak fries because I don’t love truffle fries so much. No problems… sub away. Outdoor seating coming in Spring. This place ran like it has been open for years. Big kudos to the amazing service staff. Awesome. Day one, hour one and they got NOTHING WRONG! :)
