Not the best location, BUT great authentic Korean food! Service was fast and friendly. It was also a very clean establishment.

The owner announced today on Facebook that the restaurant has closed. Sad, the food was great!

I’ve been here twice, and had an excellent experience both times. The owners, chef, and 80% of the clientele are Korean, which is a good sign. I’m no connoisseur of Korean food, but the fare at Soora is very tasty and satisfying. The portions are generous but not gluttonous. Their rice noodles are delicious, and the sticky rice is wonderfully chewy and, well, sticky. I wish they had their menu online so I could reference it for this review. Unfortunately I don’t recall the names of the dishes that I had. Suffice it to say, though, that everything was excellent. I particularly enjoy the impressive array of small dishes they cover your table with — kinda like Korean tapas. I wish I knew what they were called, but at any rate, they’re very good and a lot of fun for sharing among a group of people. This is a local restaurant that deserves our patronage. It’s in a terrible location and the outside of the building is utterly unimpressive. But, the inside is pleasantly decorated and the food is top-notch. The owners are friendly and attentive, providing exemplary service. Both times I’ve gone the place is mostly empty, and the restaurant that was in this location previously quickly went out of business(the food was great, so I blame the location). Please visit Soora!(No, I don’t work for them. :))

Seafood pancake: 5 stars Service: 5 stars Seafood soup: 1 star Their seafood pancake is among the best I have eaten… even when compared to the ones I’ve had in NYC and Chicago. These savory pancakes can easily become a big greasy mess. But Soora’s version is done with a light hand. It is crispy and filled with seafood. The service was very friendly and efficient. The owner came out to talk to every patron in the restaurant. Now…the seafood soup… first of all: it is not jjam bong like I thought. It was a clear soup with not very chewy noodles and 1 piece of green mussel plus exactly 2 clams the size of quarters. That was it! The garnish of egg and seaweed shreds did not add any flavor. I will not order that again… for $ 12, I could have any of the other tasty soups and stews. But I agree with the other reviewers. Soora does have the best selection of side dishes. They are all very fresh and carefully made. The kimchee is the best! Crunchy, fresh and not too salty. I finished 2 dishes of them. This kimchee puts Koreana’s to shame. I will be back for more pancake and try the other stews and side dishes.

I have only been once and it was ok. Upon walking in I wasn’t sure what I was really walking in to. Fast food, sit down, etc. We were the only people in the place. I have been craving Bulgogi lately and wasn’t sure where in town to really find it and a friend suggested I try Soora. I took my daughter who, unfortunately did not like the food at all. The sides were ok, but not my style since I really just wanted my bulgogi and I don’t particularly like kimchee, anchovies, tofu, etc. The bulgogi was good but I felt a little over priced. My daughter had a soup and while, it was large it too was a little pricey in my opinion. The lunch prices didn’t look too bad but the jury is still out on if I will visit again. I will continue my quest for bulgogi in town.

My new favorite Korean Restaurant in Louisville, all because the delicious small dishes come as appetizer. Some are very special and taste great, such as the egg piece. More importantly, some dishes are not seen even in Korean Restaurant in Atlanta, etc, where has a big Korean town! The presentation is nice, you can tell the owner put in some thought into these. See my pics… The main dishes are OK, nothing amazing. However it is equal if not better than all the other Korean Restaurant in town. The hot tea is served in beautiful tea pot and glass ware. Korean style. The service is top notch. The lady come and ask if we need refill of the small plates appetizers if we like one or two particular dishes. We arrived late at 9PM on a Friday, and they didn’t make you feel like forced to leave, even though they close at 9:30PM. I will go back and try other things.

«What do you miss the most about California?» Whenever I get this question, I know I should answer: family, friends, familiarity, etc. But if I’m being particularly honest I typically give two answers: the weather and the food. In particular, authentic Asian food. So does Soora, a new Korean restaurant located off Westport Road where Istanbul Palace used to be, fit the bill? Kind of, sort of. The meal started with five authentic cold Korean side dishes: pickled cabbage(kimchee), pickled cucumber, salted anchovies, kimchee pancakes and sliced tofu. All of them were good, although they could have been a bit spicier and the portions were a bit small. Our main dishes came out shortly after the side dishes in piping hot stone bowls. My wife ordered the seafood sundubu(Korean tofu stew) and the serving size was HUGE — larger than anywhere else she’s ordered it. Again, the taste of the stew was similar to the tofu houses in Southern California, but even my wife(who can’t really take spicy foods) wished it was a tad bit spicier. I ordered the dolsot bibimbap(rice in a hot stone bowl topped wish beef, yellow squash, carrots, daikon, spinach, a fried egg and seaweed, with a side of red chili sauce.) Everything was good, but they did seem to skimp on the meat and again, I wish the red chili sauce was a bit spicier. In terms of service, the man taking our order was very congenial, but everything was a bit slow. Also, several tables were left filled with leftover dishes for the duration of our meal. Finally, the prices were reasonable, but not particularly low. My dish was $ 12.99 and for someone that used to get all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ in K-town of L.A. for $ 15.00, that’s a bit pricey.(The lunch prices were about $ 3-$ 4 cheaper than the dinner prices.) At the end of the meal, we left full and fairly satisfied, but our experience wasn’t good enough to make me rethink my answer. I still miss California… especially the food.

Located behind the McDonalds at Westport Road and Goose Creek, this little Korean place recently opened and is off to a great start. No fancy decorations, we could smell the cooking from the parking lot and walked in to see several tables occupied by Korean businessmen and families. Menu is in English and Korean with good descriptions of the food for those unfamiliar with Korean cooking. Lunch menu is mostly $ 8.99−10.99 for things like bibimbap(rice and vegetable bowl) or soondubochigae(hot and spicy stew with tofu served in a stone bowl— comes to the table still boiling) and dinner entrees were about $ 12 – 16 each. The expected price range for Korean. The service was quick and friendly from a young Korean woman. Side dishes were refilled promptly(5 side dishes– nice mix of kimchi, radishes, mushrooms and onions, cold tofu and dried baby anchovies) and the serving sizes for the entrees were generous. My stew was flavorful and the rice on the side was just the right texture. Bibimbap was a nice large bowl with all the traditional vegetables topped with seaweed shreds and a sunnyside up egg, hot pepper paste on the side is a nice option for people to set their own spiciness level. The appetizers and entrees on the menu looked to be a nice variety of traditional Korean favorites plus a few«takes» on the classics– like a kalbi burger for example. There did not appear to be any cook-at-the-table options. Eating there brought back all the scent and taste induced memories of cold winter dinners in Seoul or Daegu, huddled over steaming bowls of spicy stew. Missing was the copious amounts of sojo we usually drank but for a workday lunch, maybe that is a good thing. Will definitely visit again. Not an all the time kind of lunch place at $ 12(with tax and tip) but its certainly not unreasonably priced given good food and good service.
