Don’t let all that draught beer on the menu fool you, try ordering some of it and you’ll realize hardly any of it is in stock. No cask ale, and 4 other English beers I asked for were out. Our server didn’t know the beer selection nor the vegetable of the day. Eventually, our server put our orders in – and ordered lamb sliders for someone at the table instead of a lamb burger. And this was after they talked for 20 seconds on the best temperature for the lamb burger… The food wasn’t bad – but you had to order it successfully first.,

I like The Pub for two main reasons: The Big Cheese and The Warm Cookie Sundae. Their beer battered, mozzarella and provolone cheese balls are a pleasant change from the boring fried cheese sticks found on so many menus. I simply can’t walk in the door of The Pub without ordering them. And then the Warm Cookie Sundae. flecked with bits of toffee and served covered in sizzling hot caramel reminds me of times when I would scoop out ice cream onto cookies fresh out of my mother’s oven. It is simply delicious comfort food. These are perhaps the best appetizer and dessert on Fourth Street Live. Unfortunately though I could take or leave the entrée portion of The Pub’s menu. Filled with classic, British food, I’ve yet to be blown away by it. I’ve also yet to be amazed by the service which seems to fluctuate between absent and overbearing. Still, despite a few service hiccups and a weak entrée menu I still come in regularly for appetizers and dessert because I can’t pass up The Big Cheese and the Warm Cookie Sundae.

Automatic loss of one star due to being within 4th Street Live, Louisville’s gentrified downtown bar/restaurant scene. For more character & fun, I’d suggest Bardstown Rd. One reviewer put it perfectly, «It’s a mall under a huge lit up glass roof… except instead of a variety of shops, it’s a variety of bars, and instead of shoppers, you have wasted tourists all trapped in one congregation.» The Pub is 4th Street’s must-have English themed bar. Very nice on the inside with lower eating tables to the right, a square bar on the left with boothes on the far left. Light wood and decent staff. Average beer selection and food. The best part of the Pub(or any bar within 4th Street) is of course the outdoor seating. The people watching is just incredible. Seems to be two types of people that go to 4th Street. Older middle aged people and over the top douches/douchettes. The number of Affliction shirts, crazy-pocket jeans, hair gel/spray, & super, super short dresses(can’t bend over dresses that you typically see in Vegas). Overall, the bar is secondary to the street. Was fairly empty as it’s not a dance/destination«club». The Pub is a place that is busy for dinner, than thins out. Good place to grab a drink & people watch.

Decent food, decent service. The place is in the perfect spot on 4th St for people watching. Just far away enough from the action, yet close enough to see and be shocked by some of the outfits the local women are wearing out on the town. Everyone was pleased with the variety of beers available and the tasty beer cheese as well.

An English pub right in the middle of downtown 4th St. Live. The food is nothing special. I sat at the bar to speed up the service but I still had to constantly wave down the bartender. She was nice enough but the place was poorly understaffed. I was hoping to go to J. Gumbo next door but they were closed after 3pm. This place is a safe bet but nothing special.

Nice looking outside and inside. Quiet and comfortable. My waiter was attentive. I was there for lunch. My fries were very crispy. Fish has a light salted flavor and cooked to perfection.

I was visiting Louisville for work and my co-workers and I were hungry, so we headed over here on the recommendation of a local. After this experience, I don’t think we’ll be taking his advice again. The Pub is inspired by a London pub. It certainly looks like it. I liked the décor, lots of London themed things(the Union Jack, a Underground sign, etc). There’s an eclectic mix of chairs at the tables. At ours, there were two chairs, and two club chairs. At a larger table, I noticed a couple of chairs fit for a king. It was a little dark inside, and I had to squint to see my menu. I noticed a couple of TVs over at the bar weren’t working either. I also discovered at this point that our table was quite sticky and that was pretty gross. The servers were dressed in t-shirts that had sayings on the back such as «Piss Off» or «Will shag for beer». Most of them were wearing kilts(yes, even the guys), but I saw a couple gentlemen wearing jeans. Service was not good. There seems that there was some confusion about who was to serve us. Marta greeted us and took our drink order, and then a few minutes later someone else came by to do the same thing. It took awhile for us to get our drinks and once we were brought our food, Marta seemed to disappear. I went for long stretches of time waiting on a drink refill. The food was marginal at best. I got a cheeseburger, which tasted like something from the local grocery stores frozen beef section. The bun was toasted and tasted okay. The menu promised a fried pickle that I never got(and neither did my co-worker, who also ordered a burger). The«crisps»(aka potato chips) were bland and almost tasted a bit stale. Another one of my co-workers ordered the fish and chips. Apparently, I should have ordered this, because he said it was good. Unlike other places that serve fish and chips, this was a whole huge plank of fish, battered and fried on a bed of fries. I couldn’t believe how huge this thing was. After such a poor showing by the servers and a meal that really didn’t taste all that great, I would not return here. There are far better options on Fourth Street.

My brother-in-law chose The Pub our first evening in Louisville for the«Together for the Gospel» conference(found out he actually reads my reviews, so can’t come down to hard on this place). Actually it was not bad. I had the Classic Pub burger, I now boring for an English pub but hey I’m naturally boring plus the buffalo chicken was tenders not a breast sandwich and though the waiter offered to put it on bread I went with the aforementioned Classic with crisps, which are chips, not as in Lays but as in fresh fried. Both burger and crisps were good, burger a bit dry but I had it medium so a medium rare would have been a better option. One can’t visit an English pub without drinking an English Ale I had the Ol Speckled Hen Ale which was smooth and one I’ll have to remember. the rest of the group(3) had the fish and chips and all seemed to enjoy as none complained. The going out the door on The Pub is 4 stars for the Speckled Hen 3 stars for the classic but the final is a 3, cause I can’t really say I’m a ‘fan’ though I would be willing to go again when in Louisville

United Kingdom Tastes. I say United Kingdom because the menu contains a little bit of British, Scottish, and Irish dishes. I like the fact that they have a Bloody Mary bar on the weekends and have different food then a traditional pub. The service could be improved and that is why this restaurant/pub did not make it to the private five star club. I like the seating in this restaurant which includes high tops, wrap around booths, and long benches to accommodate a crowd. There is even a King’s table with a throne chair. This is a great place for tourists to visit while in Louisville and wandering around fourth street. The prices are a little bit higher then an average pub to so be weary. This is not the local pub that you get hammered at. This is the pub in which you relax and have a session of beers. I like the fact that even for fourth street it does not get that crowded. I have seen many sporting events here simply because I knew I could have a TV, beer, and a seat. The menu has its staples, but the rest of the dishes rotate based on the season. I like coming to a restaurant and having a different food experience each time. In addition to rotating dishes there are rotating beer taps. Any pub that carries Smithwicks on tap and offers a Jamacian Cheesecake is always going to surface in my restaurant rotation.

Search for the holy grail. A friend of mine uses a phrase to describe chain restaurants, «the food’s off the truck», as in, not made fresh. The Pub’s food is likely off the truck. After-all, it is a part of the mega-complex 4th Street Live, serving as a pseudo-English style pub as part of the mighty Cordish empire. But the food at the pub, along with the service — most of the time — always stands out for what it is, and where it is. This short review is to talk about three particular items: chili, white chili, and chorizo black bean soup. These three dishes are worth the trip into the restaurant, competing both in chunks of meat, building of heat, and great flavors. Once, i was fortunate enough to stumble in when the red chili and white chili were both on the menu. At the urging of the server, i had them BOTH put in a bowl… and the results were eye opening, and a little eye-watering thanks to a little capsaicin! We were told that day that there would come a time when the red chili, white chili and black bean chorizo would appear all at once, and to demand a bowl of the three. Alas, this holy grail of food has eluded me for oh these so many months, and yet i return, ever hopeful that they will at least be smart enough to have TWO of the three, any two. Now, especially in winter, it seems to me a requirement that any place that serves good chili should have it as the ALWAYS soup. Unfortunately, perhaps because the corporate overlords don’t understand that Louisville needs good consistent downtown chili, the PUB has let me down recently, not serving EITHER chili. The black bean chorizo makes a good substitute, but today it too was missing off the menu. They say in baseball, you bat .333 and you’re in the hall of fame. If the Pub bats .333 in its trilogy of chilis, it’ll make it in my «downtown chili» hall of fame. The occasional .666 is just a bonus for patient fans, but still I await the elusive perfect game.

Went there for a networking meeting. Short review. There was good and bad(reason for the 3 stars, makes sense). The service — Not good at all. Hard to get refills and the waiter seemed like he did not care. The food — Decent. Not bad and I like the sauces on the table. Would likely go back again.

Was in town for a convention and had about an hour to eat lunch. Wandered into this gem and instantly fell in love with all the décor. The have tables with throne-like chairs, and British-kitsch all over. Our server was legit English. Or Scottish. Or Irish? Whatever, she sounded foreign. She also looked like a punk rocker circa 1980s CBGBs. She was awesome and prompt with our service. She had zero issue with our need to order, eat & dash within 30 minutes. Or the fact that there were 10 of us to manage in that timeframe. I guess the fact that we were the only ones in the bar might have helped(it was a Saturday). I ordered way too much for my stomach/time allotted to eat: –fried pickles –crab hush puppies –burger –sweet tea Everything was good. Everyone in the group was happy with the place. I’d totally go back.

I was in town visiting Louisville during St. Patricks Day Weekend and wanted some Irish specials, while not Irish I figured I would give The Pub a shot since they listed some St. Patricks Day Specials. I ordered the Lamb Burger and Pumpkin Soup, which both were very good, the food was good and the prices were reasonable. I would return if I am in town again.

This is a nice English pub-themed bar located in Louisville’s 4th Street Live entertainment district. We visited during a particularly busy spell after searching for some food after the nearby food court had closed. It’s not particularly authentic, but it’s large in size and we were quickly seated at one of the city’s busiest times. We enjoyed the Beer Cheese appetizer which is unique to Louisville. The beer cheese was easily spreadable, but lacking the sharp-hot flavor profile I have come to enjoy. The pretzel that accompanied the beer cheese somewhat of a cross between a pretzel and a mini-loaf of bread. I ordered the Welsh Pretzel, containing green peppers onions and melted cheese, served with au jus. It was presented unusually fast and was very satisfying. I was able to get fast service in a somewhat contrived environment, but I would recommend this spot to anyone looking for some thoroughly enjoyable food and /or drinks in a relaxed casual atmosphere.

They might have mustered a third star if our server hadn’t incorrectly corrected my pronunciation of Hoegaarden.(Douche) They did have a decent selection of beers on tap. A few of the darker beers were tempting, but I just couldn’t do it on such a hot night. My fish and chips tasted good, but the fish was a bit soggy. I don’t know if they need to adjust their cooking oil temperature or if it just wilted in the humidity the same way I did. That would be my other primary criticism — on a mild night, I like that all of the Fourth Street Live restaurants have open air patios. But this was not a mild night — this was 90+ degrees and humid. And their air conditioning was not up to the challenge — particularly not with the patio doors open. The sticky air just carried all of the gross cigarette smoke in from the street and felt stagnant and oppressive. I know what you’re thinking — Really, Sarah? Oppressive? You were oppressed while eating fish and chips? What can I say — I don’t like sweating in public. If you are in town for a convention — and it isn’t eleventy million degrees out — this is a perfectly fine option for dinner. But if you have the means to explore the city a bit more — we have cheaper beer and better food outside of the Fourth Street Live district.

This place has a great atmosphere, the service was great, the food was awesome and the selection of beer was impressive. I ordered a beer sampler to start. It was four glasses of decent size for $ 5.95 and you pick the 4 you want. We got a pepperoni and sausage pizza and it was fantastic. The spinach/artichoke dip was great and the white chicken chili was killer. If you order chips you get nice steak fries with curry dipping sauce… very good(it’s a Brit pub, chips are fries). One of the guys I was with ordered the fish and chips and the fish was huge!!! The server was great. She was not just a pretty face but a very pleasant and helpful server with a sense of humor. All in all, I highly recommend stopping in to this place if you are hanging out on 4th street.

The beer was good! Ordered some fish and chips, and it was a pleasant surprise not to be eating just fried batter. There was actually a decent amount of fish to be had! My wife had the spinach artichoke dip which was very cheesy and yummy!
