Went here expecting a deli, instead it’s really a convenience store that does sandwiches, soups, and fried chicken? …I don’t know for certain that this business changed hands, but it certainly seems that way. Many of the sandwiches posted in one of the menu pics here on Unilocal — like«The Veridict» or «The Magistrate» were not listed as offerings. This in itself shouldn’t do the place in, but the overall experience was just not great. In a convenience store /deli, one might think that there would be a separate counter to order food at, but the in the place one might expect to see a sandwich counter was instead this giant display selling what looked to be knock off Popeye’s Fried Chicken — no counter — just the back side of an area holding chicken under heat lamps, with a large multi-TV-menu display showing off the«Cajun Style Chicken» up above. The deli menu on the other hand was on a chalk board off on the side wall — a very poor layout. So… we placed our food order at the cash register. Ok, no big deal. The seating area was just three our four high top tables — all of which wobbled considerably, and all of which were dirty. We ate there at 2PM, it was not busy at all, so one would have thought there’d be a little time to clean the tables. We cleaned one of the tables ourselves — it was covered with scratch ticket residue. Lovely… We ordered a couple sandwiches, chowder, chips, and drinks. The food came promptly — brought out to us. I like pepper with my chowder, but there was none to be found. Eventually I was able to get the attention of sandwich guy to get some pepper, but it took a little effort to get his attention — the fried chicken display is so large it basically hides most of the kitchen area and the workers from the customers. The chowder didn’t have a lot of flavor, and if I had to guess wasn’t made on premises. The sandwiches however were decent. Lastly, while the guys running the place were friendly, they didn’t seem to have their act together. When I placed my order they said I could pay later. When it came time to pay there was a different guy at the counter, and he didn’t seem to know that I was there to pay for my meal. I had to tell him what we had. I get the feeling I could have just walked out and they would have never even known. I wish the place luck well, but you’ll find me around the corner at Elliot’s next time I’m in the area.

Prepare to wait. The food is great, no complaints there and it’s a good/clean setup. And no problem with the location, since I live right above it. If you see the skinny dark haired kid with the giant glasses behind the counter RUN. Don’t even bother. My first time in there I asked for an Italian. He said«a what» so I said never mind I’ll have a roast beef sandwich. He replies«it will take 5 – 7 minutes» I say that I didn’t expect that the food was premade. He then says«but the blade on the slicer has been cleaned already. I just walked out at this point. A week later and I decide to give it another shot. Guess who is behind the counter. He is making food for a woman as I walk in. I wait about 10 minutes, he finishes and rings her up. Someone else walks in and he starts to wait on them immediately… I walk out again and am at Garcia Brogans next door eating my lunch and writing this review… avoid the Indian kid.

The Courthouse Deli used to be the best deli in Greater Lowell, but I visited about a month ago and things have changed. It is now a convenient store which only incidentally has a small corner counter where you can still order deli soups and sandwiches from a menu that has been cut in half. I was surprised to find that I was the only one there at lunch time, as the line sometimes spilled out onto the sidewalk. The young man at the counter took my order — clam chowder and a sandwich — barely looking up from his phone. I paid him and waited for my change. And waited. And waited. He was busy texting, so he forgot to give me my change. When I asked, he apologized and gave it to me. I got home and opened the chowder and discovered that it was not clam chowder — it was corn chowder. So, the young man that took my order forgot to give me my change and put the wrong order in. Don’t forget — I was the only one there. They weren’t being slammed by thirty customers at once. The only distraction was his texting, although I think the real distraction was me — I was interfering with his texting. I opened my sandwich and discovered that one of the truly great sandwiches I used to buy there was now on white Wonder bread. This alone, should be enough to send the proprietor to deli jail. The rest of the sandwich was mediocre at best. I brought the chowder back and again found that I was the only person in the place. And the counter man was still texting. The new proprietor apologized and told me he’d give me a discount next time I came. I told him there wasn’t going to be a next time. He asked why, and I told him about the white bread and he agreed that it was a bad idea. He seemed like a good guy who was really interested in making a success of the business. Well, here’s some advice. If a business model works — don’t change it. If the deli was successful, keep it just the way it is. Don’t change the sandwiches or make it into a convenience store(competing with a Tedeschi about a block away). Get rid of that counter man — he’s going to kill your business in a couple of weeks, if he hasn’t already. I just found out they’ve closed their doors. I’m not surprised.

The owner is well experienced and makes awesome sandwiches, I never tasted anything like them. Lot of meat, high quality ingredients and I am lost now that his has moved out because of new greedy landlord who forced him out. Lowell lost a great landmark

I was excited to finally get to this place given their limited hours. First try I got there a little after 2 and the door was locked. Today, I got the #4 The Detective Classic pastrami, NY style, sliced thin with Swiss cheese and spicy mustard. Fattiest pastrami sandwich I’ve ever had. Anytime I’ve been to an NY style deli the pastrami is always tender and lean. This sandwich was a joke. I should have said something while i was there. It was laughable they were even calling it NY style. The pastrami at Market baskets is leaner I’m sure. It doesn’t bother me that they have odd hours because if that sandwich was any indication of the others I am not missing much. oh yeah the potato salad is good

The Special. The Prosecutor. The Verdict. Try them. The sandwiches at this place are always going to fill you up, so come hungry, or have a place to store the extra half. Also, there’s usually a bit of a wait so make sure to call your order in ahead. The people who work there are very nice and they’ll always make sure to get your stuff ready if you tell them you’re in a rush. Pretty much I usually stick with one of the three sandwiches that I listed above. You can’t go wrong with a sandwich with two meats, so you can’t go wrong with the special. If you’re in the mood for something spicy try the horseradish mayo on the prosecutor. Or if you want something hot you can grab the verdict. Each sandwich comes with a pickle, which whenever my office orders, requires extra. Also, I’ve heard the hot pastrami is great, and I know some people very partial to it. If you’re in the area, then check this place out.

Not knowing where to go, my sis and I ended up here for lunch and were pleasantly surprised at how big n beefy our sandwiches were. Plus they were delicious. Averaging about $ 8, they have a large variety of sandwiches named after law terms, kinda cute.

Yes, it’s expensive for a sandwich, but, coming from Providence, the prices were what I was used to anyway, and besides, the portions are in proportion to the price and the quality. However, given that the prices are already what they are, I find it kind of offensive that I would be charged extra for adding lettuce and tomato to a sandwich just because the sandwich’s «recipe» doesn’t call for it. I ordered the #12, The Warden, one of the few on the menu that only calls for meat and a condiment, but that is still priced like all the rest. So do you really have to nickel and dime me for a leaf of lettuce and a couple of slices of tomato? I would definitely go back, I would just make sure that I get a sandwich that has everything I want on it.

Haven’t had lunch here and I won’t if my «breakfast» experience was any indication. Nearly $ 5 for a small cup of weak coffee in a foam mug, and a really lousy bagel. What a rip off.
