I’ve had consistently good experiences here for over a decade. All big box music stores are slow in regard to getting your transaction completed in a timely fashion. It seems like they use the same software as the airlines. You know, they type furiously for 5 minutes only to ring up a set of strings after calling over a coworker to check a code entry. Staff and management both have been helpful whether I knew what I was talking about or not; or whether I was buying or just looking. I would disagree with Murray’s review: prices ARE competitive & kids really don’t want some old rusty Hagstrom you found in a smelly pawn shop. Also, don’t sell your gear to ANY store, sell it to a musician.

9−22−14. Went to Sam Ash Music Store on Mayfield Rd., Lyndhurst, Ohio. Wanted to see how much they would give me for a Hirade Takamine, 1984, Master Series 7, classical guitar with hard case. Have my original receipt from1984 for $ 734. Guy at Sam Ash said they’re worth $ 100-$ 200. Mine in great condition so he’d give me $ 250. I told him they’re on Ebay starting at about $ 800. He said that’s «asking» price, not«selling» price. I went down the street to Guitar Center. Man there brought up Ebay on the spot. Gave me $ 450 for it. Sam Ash rep must equate«old»(me) with«stupid.»

I came in here to sell off my stuff. The prices they gave me were a bit weak but fair. The staff was friendly, but they took ages to figure out all of my stuff. I wasn’t in a rush, but I was there for 1 hour and I felt like I spent the majority of my time waiting for people to just tell me a price and filing paperwork.

This store is a cliché and a half. If you want to try out your Clapton chops on a shiny new Fender and impress the balding store clerk, this is the place. If you’re looking for more obscure instrument brands or not douchey Rush inspired drumming instructional dvds playing in the background, leave. They do have all major brands of guitars, bass, keys and drums for top dollar. I feel sorry most kids probably drag their parents in here to buy their first gear. Take your kid to a pawn shop. I did buy a pedal here for an okay price.
