The food was very good. We got the chicken tamales, cheese pupusas, and rice. A lot of the negative reviews seem to be about the environment — we got our food delivered. We would order from here again! I just wish the delivery fee wasn’t so high!

This is a great place to get some lunch. The owner is really sweet and nice. I just don’t like going there when she is not there. I think I might be too used to the way she is. Whoever she has there on the days she is not there does not do the job like her. They are actually not nice at all. And that is the reason for my 3 stars. The food is great. Salvadorian style… and the tortillas are fresh. I wish they had chips and salsa… last time I asked they said they dont have it there… I don’t really like the music machine… is too loud and they turn the volume up and down and up and down all the time. Its pretty annoying. But the food is good. just dont expect it to be fast… they make the food fresh when ordered…

Oh god. I ww ish there where Negative stars for this place. So… first time I went here a few years ago with the family after church. We figured we would stay local you know… the place was packed… with Men. that stared at me and my mother since we walked in all the way to our the table. Waitress took forever to get to us. finally comes over with a shirt so low I coulda sworn I seen a nipple. takes our order. turns around THONG in our face… family restaurant though. okay cool. After 1 hour food comes back wrong. we payed.took it. and left . Last month I went back… I said heckkk. that was a while ago. lets give it a . My husband and I were starving. we were going to head to east Boston for some Peruvian food, but it was raining bad… so. we gave Montecristo a shot. once again.ALL men inside… starring. Rancheras blasting… drunk men starring and winking. even though you come in with your husband… sunday at 12pm? I dont even think they sell liquor in there yet there are tables full of drunk guatemalan and salvadorean men. ok…I waited 25 minutes for the waitress to come get out drink orders even though we said we had the entire order ready, she only took drinks and said shed be back. I got a strawberry milkshake and hubby got a coke. Why did another 25minutes go by and she had not come back with a damn milkshake and coke!!? Since my husband asked me to not say anything and just relax I did… for about another 15min… to when I grabbed my keys. grabbed my phone and purse… got up… and the waitress turned to look and clearly had forgotten us she came quickly I told my husband… im not staying in this place for another minute… OVERANHOURWITHOUTOURFOODORDER! Crazy! 1waitress for to go orders, serving 10tables, and making milkshakes. she was probably the cook too! Damn…

Montecristo is a great spot to eat really well for really cheap. An entrée of Rice, Beans, Carne Asada(grilled skirt steak) with a side salad and corn tortillas — All this food for only $ 9! You would be paying close to $ 13-$ 15 anywhere else in Boston. But, you will have trek all the way to Lynn to come to this authentic central american restaurant. They have delicious Pupusas, tacos, burritos — all under $ 5. But don’t expect a quick meal, the food is made to order and I’ve always waited a bit for the food to come out. The restaurant isn’t very large or fancy but it’s clean and very welcoming. The servers are very friendly and can help you if you have no idea what something on the menu is. If you’re ever headed to the Lynn Auditorium for a show or concert, try to come early and eat here!

My 200th Review! WOOHOO! My boyfriend and I were heading to Salem from Revere for a baby shower and I wanted to get a quick bite to eat before we got there in case there was no vegan food at the shower for me to eat. So we drove through the desolate downtown Lynn to find a Mexican joint and came across this place. We assumed it would be fast but it wasn’t. We assumed it would be pretty veg friendly but it wasn’t. It was however clean, nice, and helpful and we did eat there anyway. The place is a Mexican/Salvadoran place with many authentic dishes from both countries. The staff speaks mainly Spanish working there and all the clientele was of a Latino decent.(good sign for authentic food!) The man and woman who waited on us at the counter were very helpful about suggesting dishes to me. I asked if the beans were vegetarian but there is some chicken garnish on them so no. Unfortunately that pretty much kept me from being able to order any dish vegetarian or vegan. I was going to just have to get a salad and plantains but she suggested the tamales. She said the beans in them had no chicken flavor. So I ordered 2. They were huge! I probably should have just eaten one, because between that and the side salad I ordered(big side salad) I felt like I had just eaten a pound of corn bread! LOL But the tamales were really flavorful which was yummy, much more so than other places. Ask for some salsa though for flavor. My boyfriend got the chicken tostado which was big and yummy he said. They brought me out salad dressing for my salad but the Italian had cheese in in so I just used lime juice. We did not get fried plantains or fried yucca but those would also be a vegetarian option. I was craving a Torta sandwich but couldn’t get it without vegetarian beans. Anyway our total meal was like $ 13 + change which seemed reasonable. The only issue is that there were 3 – 4 tables in front of us waiting for their food so it took a long time for us to get our food. We ended up being 40 mins late to the shower because of it. Also the fire alarm went off and it took about 10 minutes for it to stop. If you have the time and are willing to be creative with your dish then come here. Otherwise it’s not a good place for a quick bite to eat or real vegetarian friendly. But it is nice to support authentic local places!

Aside from the bad service and cluttered atmosphere its food was alright, categorizing this restaurant as a very typical and boring restaurant as it does not achieve a level of excellence in flavor or creativity in its typical Hispanic menu.

Montecristo. more like Monte-Heartburn! This place is so greasy that the food is virtually inedible. I got the cheese pupusas and after 2 – 3 bites, I had to throw out the food and hope that the horchata drink would tide me over until dinner, which it didn’t. Speaking of which, if you’re looking for real traditional Mexican horchata, this is not the place to get it. I thought that my chances were good when I saw that they had some Mexican flags around in the shop, so what a disappointment when I started drinking it only to find that it was the non-Mexican version. Never going there again.

Great tasty burritos. The pork burrito is little on the spicy side. They are a good size and tasty. They also have a fantastic breakfast. Prices are great too as well as the help is extremely friendly and helpful.

Montecristo is a small hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant in downtown Lynn, a Mexican restaurant that is actually owned and operated by Salvadorans. The menu therefore includes both Mexican and Salvadoran dishes, so treat yourself to something other than the typical tacos and burritos. One great thing about this place is that they’re open for breakfast, so if you’re in the mood for something different, I recommend that you try the«plato tipico»(eggs with tomatoes and onions) or «huevos con chorizo»(scrambled eggs with Mexican sausage) or for a meatless breakfast, try the huevos con papas(scrambled eggs with potatoes). Special treats that you cannot find at other places are the Tamales de Chiplini, a legume from Central America that is used for its aroma and flavor. A favorite of mine is the«Plato Mixto» which includes one tamal, one pupusa, yuca(also known as cassava, a root vegetable very common in South American), fried plantain and chicharron(pork stripe).
