Maybe it was the wrong day to go see a new movie. Perhaps it was the fact that it was a kids movie and I shouldn’t expect a good viewing experience with young ones in the audience. But my 9 year old son remarking as we left the theater«That is the worst theater I’ve ever been to!» Was heartbreaking. The air-conditioning was off in the theater for ‘The Minions’ showing at 4:05 on Saturday. They oversold tickets. The sound was basically off. We could see something funny happening but no clue what the dialogue could have been. I get that the movie industry is tanking, but a small reinvestment to this facility, should they plan to continue operating, is imperative.

This movie theater was better than Opry Mills Theater. Carmike is cheaper, and they’re never too busy. I believe their tickets were $ 7.00+(not sure) where as Opry Mills is $ 9.50 on weekdays and $ 11.50 on weekends. Only downside is limited screenings though.

The staff is always friendly, plus it is way less crowded than opry mills. Only setback is the limited screens and limited movie options.

The only reason I’m not giving this a full 5 stars is because the seats are just not comfortable. When I’m looking to see a movie, I clearly choose Carmike Wynnsong first. Several reasons why. 1. It’s never busy. Even for the new releases. Although for a big release you’ll probably get 10 – 20 people. I’ve been to plenty of shows here where my boyfriend and I have been the only 2 in the theater. Even the midnight showing of Harry Potter wasn’t full. 2. You can get a ginormous popcorn bucket for $ 17 that you can reuse throughout the year and refills are only $ 3.50. This is larger than the $ 10 large popcorn. So it’s a total steal. Plus it’s nice that the staff totally understands the term«Butter all the way through». 3. If you go to a movie between 4:00 and 5:30(even the new releases), tickets are only $ 5.50. Which is funny, because the children’s admission is still $ 7! So you don’t have to break the bank going to the movies! This is even good on the weekends! 4. They have the Digital projectors. So even though they haven’t spent a lot to spruce up the joint and their chairs are near unbearably uncomfortable for a long show, their picture quality is on point. It’s better than the some of the Regal theaters around town as well. I will say that their rewards program isn’t as good as Regal’s. It takes forever just to get a free popcorn and the problem is that we have a bucket. So getting a free popcorn is pretty useless. You have to spend nearly $ 320 to get a free movie ticket where as at Regal you only have to spend $ 150. But all in all, I still look first to see if what I’m wanting to see is playing at the Carmike over the Regal. Only because it’s not busy and well, the $ 3.50 refill popcorn bucket!

I spent many a nights watching movies here back in the 1990s, but as Rivergate went downhill, I avoided it. My parents steered me back here because they have $ 5 showings between 4 and 5:30. You can’t beat that, especially since at some of the others it is more than double that.

I am a 4-star fan of this movie theatre because no one was there. When I go to the movies I want a relaxing, quiet atmosphere, without any riff raff or traffic. This place has that. It’s a little run down, worn carpet, home-depot bought numbers to assign the number theatre your film is showing in. Plenty of parking, no one was in line for popcorn. The popcorn was fresh, and staff was all in their bow ties and willing to help! A few early 90’s movie chairs and small arcade with original pac man! The theatre was clean and the seats were just partly worn. No errors in showing the film and the noise level was great. They have these ridiculous deals: Tuesdays $ 1.00 popcorns and sodas, some movies are only $ 5.00(older films) and you can buy a bucket of popcorn for like $ 20.00 and then fill it up all year for only $ 2.50 just bring your bucket. Wow.(Confirm prices/dates with website) it may be a little drive, and it may not be new or fancy but you don’t have to fight traffic, listen to other peoples cell phones/txt, children crying, or groups of people.
