Solid coffeeshop, good selection, reasonable prices for the location. Great for people watching or studying. A+ décor. A+ coffee, B food, B prices, A service. One of the best on State Street!

My local when I have time to walk across the Square. Nothing beats their homemade chai, their vegan chickpea curry soup, sitting outside to watch the sunset, and the leaves falling on a cool night. In winter, my best friend and I love to sip a mug of chai, knit together, and relax in the comfy chairs. This place is always full of students and young professionals, and given the bohemian vibe, it’s usually my type of people. If you’re the suburban or Starbucks type, this place isn’t for you. If you’re into breaking the«chain» of chain restaurants, want to keep our Square full of locally owned, fair trade based, and community oriented, go here. You won’t be disappointed.

Small but good variety sandwich menu. I got the salami pesto panini, which was delicious. They also have some interesting specialty drinks in addition to just coffee, teas, and smoothies.

The owner, Samir, is very cool. I got a Decaf Expresso + French vanilla, cinnamon, honey, and soy milk. It was very tasty. I like this place. They have some interesting drinks.

As one of the last locally owned businesses on State St., Michelangelo’s holds a place in most downtown Madison denizen’s hearts as a comfortable and reliable point of decompression. While the price points of the savory and bakery items are within acceptable limits(although $ 3 for a scone still has a little sting), there is a sense here that a part of Madison’s original mission statement as a proud yet quirky location will always be present. It’s in that spirit that I am hesitant, yet feel a duty to report that my last experience there was substandard in one key respect-the coffee. The college-aged clerk gave me a strong affirmation that they had a dark roast, which I ordered to go. Why then, was what I sampled when I was two blocks further more akin to hot brown water that one would expect from a residential tap in Brooklyn, NY? Bottom line-I would gladly pay an extra dollar for a full strength cup of coffee, and will resort to patronizing Colectivo and others until Michelangelo’s gets their act together.

Great little coffee shop! Amazing desserts and pastries. I’m so happy I stumbled upon this coffee shop on my visit to Madison.

I love Madison, and I love this place. Michelangelo’s is a relaxed, friendly coffee joint that is decidedly and thankfully not like the… well, you know who… of coffee houses. Really tasty treats, cute staff, excellent coffee. What more could you want? Go here. You’ll enjoy it.

Our favorite Saturday morning stop on the way to the Farmers Market on the square. They have so many flavors of cappuccino and Mocha; like the Monkey Mocha; banana flavor shot with chocolate and coffee with or without whipped cream. I say go large if you’re going to get the«Monkey» and savor every drop. They have delicious panini sandwiches, so many French croissants filled with anything from blueberries, raspberries and cream cheese, to spinach and cheese, to chocolate and apple fritters as big as your face. Fresh fruit, fresh fruit smoothies, soup and chili, baguettes and Brie… too many«yummies“to list them all. Always friendly and offer assistance in choosing if you’re stumped and answer any questions if you have them. They have a 12 or 16 ounce cup for Joe and an array of hot and iced teas too. There are plenty of seats with tables, a couch and comfy deep leather chairs and a pretty aquarium and a back room with more tables and chairs. There’s pleasant new age acoustic music playing at the perfect loudness… Free WIFI, multiple plug ins for your laptop or I Pad or phone. A place where everyone feels comfortable… all ages… parents with children, professionals, students from Madison College Downtown, retirees, alllll sorts of people and allll feel good being there. But beware; you’ll probably find yourself craving another Monkey Mocha or panini or treat once you try one; I’m hooked!

Great tea and coffee! The vegan peanut butter bar is amazing! Only took off a star because I wish there were more vegan«to go» choices

My favorite coffee place in Madison! A little on the pricy side, but I really appreciate the fair trade and organic menu items. Their chai tea latte is delicious and I ADORE the chocolate/peanut butter bars. I want a whole tray-full when I go there! Great selection of herbal teas, too. Great place to meet up with friends for a chat, grab a quick drink before a show at the Overture Center, or study and do homework. There are plenty of tables, although a tad cozy. Baristas are extremely friendly and quick to get orders out.

Great coffee, plenty of space to spread out and study or meet with friends. There’s nothing I hate more than trying to study at a coffee shop and sitting at a table smaller than the size of a large pizza. Definitely not an issue here. The baristas were energetic and fun. I’m definitely glad we stopped here. I did find the need to ask for a key to use the bathroom to be a bit odd.

This place has pretty good coffee and I love that it’s a local business, but I can’t get past their bathroom key policy. When it’s common for people to stay at coffee shops for a while, and coffee being a diuretic, it ends up being very annoying to have to basically go ask for permission to use the bathroom.

Service is very pleasant, but no ambiance at all… and isn’t it what coffee shops are all about? Deserts are not good. Ordered baklava and éclair… so disappointed.

Enjoying the Chickpea vegetarian soup with bread. The soup has a slight kick curry, and is a generous portion. The bread is toasted and is great for dunking. This is a great way to warm up on a winter’s day.

Outstanding service with a smile and a tasty Almond Joy Mocha started my day. The homemade brownie was moist and satisfying. I will return for more caffeinated refreshments while downtown.

This place has a door on both State St(front door by the register) and a back door that you can use on N Carroll St. The back door opens into a secondary large seating area which is the quieter of the two seating areas being away from the register and counter. Lots and lots of places to sit and study. Nice easy going vibe. I would definitely frequent this place if I lived here. I recommend the baklava. On my short four day business trip to town I might have stopped here three days in a row to get one. Big pieces and delicious. In addition to bakery they also have a substantial sized(lunch) food menu for«just» a coffee shop.

Love the ambiance. Quite and comforting. Got the chocolate lover’s cake. Ahhhh I love chocolate but still the cake is just like a huge piece of chocolate which is a little bit too much for me lol(feel guilty for all the calories) The cake itself is great tho! It’s just that there’s no way I can finish such a huge piece lol.

Michelangelo’s is a warm and inviting place. As a Seattle native, I live for places like this. The staff are so friendly, and they not only greet you warmly upon entering, but they’ll encourage you to try samples of their pastries and give you as much time as you need to decide which latte you’ll order. There is a chalkboard above the pastry case that lists their latte flavors and interesting combinations of flavors. On my first and only visit, I tried the orange chocolate chip scone, which had a light and airy texture and just the right amount of orange flavor and chocolatey goodness. I also tried a hazelnut latte, which came with latte art. The place is just the right size, and I would study here if I were a student at Madison. I’d also recommend this place for first dates, especially of the OkCupid variety. Grab a slice of lemon blueberry cake and two forks, and dig in! Its love at first bite! &heartsxo
