I’ve trained with these individuals for several years, and though I’m not a personal student of Adam-sensei per se, I’ve had enough experience with both him and his students to recommend this place and present it with the highest amount of praise. The quality of instruction provided here is superb. Adam-sensei’s attention to detail is top-notch, a fact which is attested to by the seriousness found in his higher-ranked students. Anyone who has trained here can tell you that the intensity, precision, and dedication found herein are rare treasures. I’ve had the pleasure of training with Adam-sensei and his students many times throughout the years, and it is something that I always look forward to. Attention is paid to the details– be it the preservation of the classical arts(and correct pronunciation of the Japanese terminology), the feeling of ‘reality’ which is presented with knife drills and sparring, the correct hip position for leveraging someone who outweighs you by 50 pounds for a proper koshi-nage(hip throw), or just the right way of passing a sword from one person to another. Correct presentation of the classical arts is a very important aspect of the training here. Studies of the classical densho(scrolls) and an understanding of the poetically named techniques are critical elements in learning to uncover the ‘flavour’ of each form. However, training with present-day ideologies is still presented in a manner which, to use a rather cheesy phrase, «Brings the wisdom of the ages to the modern training hall». Sorry about that, but it truly is an apt description. Go check it out. I promise you that you won’t be disappointed. And who knows, maybe you’ll see me out on the mat getting thrown around. I can promise you that I’ll have a smile on my face!
