There is nothing left to say expect unacceptable expensive consumption. I will never go this place again unless they stop rob the money from customers

They forced a 18% gratuity with doing nothing for us. We asked them about the bill and they told us that it is a mandatory fee and every karaōke does the same thing. I said I didn’t know about that, and they simply told me it is written near the door and I should look at it carefully next time… I was so speechless. I would happily gave them the gratuity if they had nicer attitude and service. I was so badly treated when I questioned about the bill. Would never recommend this place.

lets see: illegal drag racing out front. major drug deals out back, and prostitutes to keep things fun.(and yeah, it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out that 5 exotic cars pulling out back of a club and then leaving again 20 min later is a straight up drug deal of major proportions). and yes, ive seen the girls working out front. ive watched them return after they were done with their johns. ive watched the crotch rockets doing burn outs, the lambos, maseratis, ferraris and the like gunning the engines and screaming down the street. ive dodged the pricks more than once just trying to get home. just some of the fun stuff you see while being a neighbor. oh and lets not forget the fist fight with a chick that chased two guys down the street punching and slapping them while her friends looked on. or the people that were clearly so incredibly over-served that they FELLOUTOF A MOVINGCAR, crawled behind it and sat in a circle on the street singing. yup. i wont even set foot in this hell hole because just being the neighbor is hell enough. its pretty clear that the place is terrible. the reviews are awful and the guests are a flat out mess. money but no class.

Pass. We came her for a co-worker’s going away shindig during their«happy hour.» We rented the VIP room — while we made it fun(which is the only reason I gave two stars), I would never recommend this to anyone. I’ll start with mentioning that at the back of the«menu» they have printed a damage list — which you will be charged if you break something — which charges $ 30 for a single broken glass or shot glass. We didn’t break anything so we were spared, but beware! Cons: The Karaōke screens are extremely difficult to navigate and the selection of English songs is limited. It takes some learning to find songs in English(press Europe, then English). We had a wide range of ages in our party and one of our co-workers who is over 50 couldn’t find a single song she knew. Some of the newer pop songs do not have the words displayed. They write a tip of 18% in for you(it is NOT printed), which I am pretty sure is illegal. Drinks can only be ordered by the bottle or pitcher — I asked, twice. When your time is up, your waitress comes in the room and pries the mic out of your hand. Damage list is ridiculous. Pros: You get a private bathroom! The sound system and Karaōke system is high tech, and works very well. If it were easier to use for an English speaker, I would have added another star. No one searched our bags and the food was tasty. If you’re a 20% tipper like me, the 18% required can save you money. Overall, I had a ton of fun with my coworkers and we weren’t there on a serious karaōke mission so I will give them two stars. However, I hate tacky business practices(*ahem*, damage list), so without the company I would not be so generous.

Lo’ and behold the owner, Tim, actually replied to me and several other reviewers that told the ugly truth of this business…(See original review.) Unfortunately the response did little to address the actual valid complaints that we had for the poor service and extra charges at every turn. Forcing an 18% gratuity does not motivate servers to provide better service, it just gives them a shield for their disgraceful behavior. $ 5 bottled waters were definitely not on the menu when we went nor were we given the option of fountain water. Sounds suspicious? Anyway thank you but no thank you to the larger room upgrade… My friends and I have spent more than enough during our first and last trip to 1986KTV. Be warned and enter this place at your own risk!

I think you missed the point Tim. We arrived EARLY, so being on time should have never been an issue. Also, when we left there was NOONE waiting for a room. In fact, most of your rooms were empty that night. I understand that you are trying to run a business, but your reply shows that customer service training is sorely needed.

Terrible place. The service is shockingly bad. Never go to that place again. The only edge they have is the modern equipment and room. But believe me, you don’t want to pay a hell a lot of money and suffer from terrible service to get the chance to sing. You are required to hand in a photo ID and a credit card when enter the place, and they didn’t even return me my credit after swiping it! It’s unbelievable! Only when we left the place did they finally return my card. Doesn’t sounds like a place you want to go hum?

Update: The owner commented my review and he said that the bag-searching is for making sure weapons are not brought by customers. This is not what the waitress said when she found out that we had a bottle of water in our bag.(They do not allow outside food or water so that they can charge you $ 5+18% tips for a Poland Spring(which is usually less than $ 0.6/bottle in supermarket). 1986 is really shortsighted in running their business. Should’ve checked out the reviews on Unilocal before coming. VERY pricey! Do not come here unless you want to throw around your money and do not care about service quality at all. The service was really bad but they still ask for 18% tips. They check your bags to make sure you do not bring any drinks. Let’s put it in this way: they treat customer as thief.

Never ever come to this place guys!!! It ssucks… We sang for less than 3hours but they charge us for 245dollars, and online Unilocal the price is 45pee hour, however when we got there, it became to 65 and they told us 45 is for weekdays, but that day is Friday afternoon, does it account to weekends?! Haha… Mostly worst, the people there so impolite, they charged us 20mins before us even though we were late due to traffic in Boston and closed our screen 1 min before our service time… Just let u guys know, never come here, it’ll ruin your whole day!!!

Overcharged me for 30 mins which we weren’t there for. We showed up late for our 8pm reservation, which the hostess was made aware. She told us that we can hold the room until 8:15 or else the room would be given away, which is understandable. Multiple hostesses called me several times, interrupting my gf’s bday dinner, to ask if I was going to show up after I already told them I would to the first person who called. They call a total of 4 times and told me they would hold the room till 8:30. We show up at 8:30, however we agree to pay for the room rate starting 8:15. Shouldn’t we have the room till 10:15 then? They end up giving us our check at 10pm and closing off the room. So we basically had the room from 8:30 to 10, getting jipped for 30 mins. At $ 80/hr that’s $ 40 down the drain. To make it worse, they came in the karaōke room multiple times to ask if we wanted to extend our reservation to 10:15. We already have a reservation till 10:15 so stop cutting into our time. I hate this place! Just rude and terribly run! They don’t seem to care either…

This is the first Unilocal review I’ve ever written, and I’ve never given anything or any place a bad review before. That’s how angry and bitter this place made me. First of all I will admit that this place looks nice and has nice equipments, and we all had fun, but it was very expensive fun. They overcharge for everything, from hourly rates to drinks, and even water($ 5 per bottle, and the price was not listed on the menu). They also force 18% gratuity on you, so the staff is not motivated to even try providing good service. As soon as you go over by even 1 minute, they will charge you for an extra 15 minutes, but they have no problem stealing minutes from you(setting our starting time at 7:30 when we arrived at 7:35 and got seated in the room at 7:40). We knew the place was pricey from the rates beforehand, but we didn’t expect all the extra charges that they slapped on us. I guess since they’re the only place in Malden, they don’t care if customers are not happy and will never return. So go there only if you have lots of money to throw away, and don’t really care about the service. Also, if no one in your group can speak and read Chinese, beware that although the control console can be set to English, the remote control near the seats is in Chinese only, and the staff don’t speak very good English.

Environment is awesome. BUT they charged me 360 and later on figured it out that they charged extra 50 dollars. They just gave me a 15% coupon and said that they cant refund!

The place is nice. I think it is a little pricey at night. It reminds me of KTV in asia. Very clean and lot of random snacks to munch on while singing. They have full liquor license serving sake, beer, and mix drinks.

This place has great sounds for KTV. The environment is clean and it sets comfortable mood for people to sing. They have mix drinks, but alcohol is low and too sweet. I have been there several, sometimes good, sometimes bad. Hopefully they can keep it up consistently.

Its a very nice place for ktv, the services were also great. They pay by the hours and not by the number of people. My family checked in at 7:10pm and we pay for 2 hrs which would leave us to 9:10 but the lady was so nice that she gave us extra 20mins, so it ended at 9:30. I love this place, I would highly recommend it. They also have a parking at the back, you just need to ask the workers inside. The medium room(which we booked) can fit at about 10 or so. The VIP room(The room across from us) ISHUGE. The place is also very clean. I definitely recommend this place. HOWEVER if you are going for the smaller room, its best to reserve it before you go, because that’s the room that is usually full when ever you go there.

This is definitely the best karaōke in Boston area. It is new and has large collection of Asian songs and English songs. I love bringing friends here and I would highly recommend this place for weekend leisure. The price for a medium size is $ 80 per hour on weekend, and it can fit about 8 – 10 people. I think it’s a pretty good deal!

I am addicted to Karaōke. So when I saw that there was a dedicated«Korea-town» style Karaōke joint in Malden, I honestly thought my own personal prayer had been answered. I walk in: its perfect: all the right snazzy neon lights, the muffled sounds of people wailing in one room. It looks like they had just opened so I think they may have over hired(there were about 10 people in full night club attire, gelled and recently highlighted hair sitting behind the desk). Anyway I get to the punch line. How much does it cost to play? The cheapest room was $ 45 per hour. The maximum number of people you can bring into that room are 6. They even have a VIP room for $ 100. I dont know who goes to Malden for the VIP room, but I’d like to ask them a few questions? I’ve previously lived in Manhattan for over 7 years and have been hitting the karaōke hard for the same amount of time and I’ve never paid more for $ 24 dollars an hour for a private room. I think one time with 15 people we paid $ 60. These guys have their supply and demand cues a little mixed up, but I’ll wait until the price point falls. Significantly. I think a private room here should be 6 dollars per person per hour with a minimum of 3 people per room. Until then, I’ll have to live with Friday/Sat at Pearl St. Station.
