I always get their pepper and egg sub, and it is one of the best that I have had. Some places will cook their eggs on a dirty griddle, which imparts a kind of burnt/old taste to the eggs, but Big A’s eggs are super fresh and clean tasting. The bread is also delicious, and never soggy. I also love their jalapeño poppers, though if you are expecting something spicy, you will be disappointed; they are surprisingly mild. The service can be slow, and the people there can be confused/angry, but at the end of the day, if the food is good, I’ll keep going back.

This place has gone way way way way downhill. I don’t know if it’s owned by new people but whoever is working there couldn’t not care less about doing a good job. I’ve lived in Malden my whole life and unless you dine in you will not get good food. The phone is usually answered by the same miserable woman that takes you’re order when you dine in.(She’s the one visibly rolling her eyes while taking take out orders over the phone) It is a 5 minute drive to my house yet on a Monday it takes over an hour to receive cold food. Do not EVER try and change an order by adding/subtracting items(asking for sauce on side, no mustard, ect) it only seems to confuse. Either that or they can’t be bothered. I used to love this place and on occasion I will still grab something with a friend if they want to stop in, but I’ll never order again. I was trying to remember why I haven’t ordered there in so long and now I remember. Do yourself a favor and just go to Dipetros across the street.

I usually get food from this sub shop only because it’s close by and decent price, but today was a Hugh disappointment. I order a cheese burger dinner at 12:30 noon and it was 2:30 yet I still never received my food. I gave them a call and the front desk said sorry they are on the way. Finding out after another 30 mins they never began to make the order from the start. Unprofessional skills from the front desk lady who didn’t even know what she was talking about from the start.

Ordered a large meatball sub, drink, large buffalo tenders via GrubHub. They waited *over an hour*(past the time the food was supposed to be to me!) to call to tell me they had no meatballs and to cancel the order by calling GrubHub. I did– Grubhub was awesome and classy, no issues there. But I had no food and no apologies from Big A, plus the charge on my card until whenever my bank gets around to reversing it… Thanks for nothing…

My favorite place to get a great sub every time, be prepared to wait a few during lunch times but it’s worth it, always consistently good food relatively quick.

Ordered lunch from here for the first time last week. The woman that took my order was very friendly. Based on previous reviews, I decided to satisfy my buffalo chicken craving with the buffalo chicken wrap. I also ordered a side of fries. The portions were huge. Unfortunately, the wrap was pretty disappointing and the fries were gross. The tortilla wrap tasted like it had been steamed(like a burrito), and overall the ingredients tasted watery. The fries are the strange batter style, which I wish I realized before I had ordered. Perhaps I caught them on a bad day, or maybe the buffalo chicken wrap isn’t their best item on the menu. The friendly service and quick readiness time(~10 mins) are reason enough for me to try Big A again in the near future.

The chicken parm sub is delicious and the garden salad with grilled chicken is so fresh. Their house dressing is amazing and pita bread was warm and fresh. Service was great and prices are very reasonable.

Food is okay. It depends what we order. Sometime they are fast some time they are slow. It gets busy on office time so I have to wait 20 minute for one Sub. So just 3 star.

I think when it comes to sub shops people look for three things appealingness price and quality of products Big A’s has nailed all three in one fell swoop. There salads are to die always fresh crispy greens and vegetables the sandwiches are always as ordered if ur looking for a reasonable priced meal can’t go wrong with Big A’s

I’ve never had a better steak and cheese sub than the one from Big A. Their subs are incredible. I know people who grew up eating at Big A, have moved away, and come to Malden to visit just to eat there again. I know others who still talk about The Big A and when they used to eat it as kids. I don’t understand all the fuss about their supposed attitude on the phone. That’s how New Englanders are and honestly they’re busy making sure your food is delicious so give them a break if they’re straight shooters on the phone. I’ve called countless times and it depends on the time of day that you’re calling. I’ve always just thought of it as efficient. Quick call, quick order, quick food. Easy. It’s a shame that they don’t deliver anymore, but their food is so good it won’t stop me from coming to pick up.

I’ve been going to Big A since I was a kid, over 40 years! Big A is a bit of a thing here in Malden since the beginning of time. Always good, sometimes mistakes are made but overall it’s great. Too bad so many bad reviews. Yeah they’re rushed on the phone but it’s always been that way so you better have your act together when you call. I’ve picked up and had delivery and can’t recall every having an issue. Now I know who to blame for them stopping delivery… thanks Pete G: P

No delivery? Why can’t they hire some kid? What’s the big deal? Pizz is not good anymore. Food went down the tubes. Please bring back the old big a’s and have better customer service. Rude people answering phones. All these bad reviews are not good for your biz! Hire me, I’ll get you back on track.

The food is here is delicious but the customer service is always always always terrible. I’ve never seen a friendly face working here. I don’t get it. If I owned a business(even a sub shop) I would expect the best customer service from my employees.

this is by far the worst customer service i have ever experienced in any kind of restaurant. they hung up the phone on me? 3 times?! all i was doing was trying to find out why my food was an hour late?! i had to go to the restaurant to get my food and the guy complained and told me that, «after tonight i will no longer provide delivery services. thats it!» thats what he said to me?! a customer?! so everybody, big a isnt delivering their bs food anymore. oh boo-freakin-hoo!

Having a horrible experience with The Big A. It has been 90 minutes and counting since I placed my order through Grubhub. I received 2 confirmations of my order and that my food would be delivered by 9.20pm. I called the store at 9.40pm and was told by a male worker my order was on it’s way. At 9.57pm I called again and was informed by a female worker that if they are busy, they don’t touch their grub hub orders until all other orders are taken care of so don’t worry, the food shouldn’t be cold. She also said if it doesn’t come within the next 10 minutes I could call back and talk to the owner. No apologies. It’s 10.08pm and still no food. Time to call the owner. Called back and got the same female worker who said she didn’t see my order. Then came back and said it was with a delivery driver and got offended when asked if the food would be cold. When asked if they would compensate for the inconvenience she said we could cancel the order.

Ordered the chicken cutlet wrap. Unfortunately the meat and sauce were bland. I did not enjoy the tough texture of the wrap itself too.

Four stars for food but this is for delivery. I have a pet peeve where people don’t follow my orders that are clearly written down. In this case, I ordered through grub hub and I clearly typed out that I would like the driver to call me. This happens every time where the driver would ring the door bell instead. It maddens me! It’s a good thing I love their French fries! It’s so good! Other than that, there is nothing to complain about. The food portion is adequate and it is well made.

This is an ode to their chicken parm subs. The bread is soft and dense with a generous helping of sesame seeds dotting the crust, which only serves to sop up all the wonderfully zesty marinara sauce smothering the chicken cutlets. There are at least four cutlets, juicy and tender piled high in between the slices. The cheese? Authentically Provolone, which oozes onto your fingers with each delicious bite. This sandwich easily keeps you happy through two whole meals. Best chicken parm sub in the Boston area. I dare you to prove me wrong. They deliver all around the Medford and Malden area, with no special charges or fees. Oh and the Greek and chicken Caesar wraps are great too.
