Family Medical Group of Manhattan

I was very sad to hear today that Family Medical Group of Manhattan would be closing for good after June 30^th. I have been seeing Dr Leeds since 1988. He has always been kind and compassionate and he has helped keep me in good health for all these years. Yes, the office staff left something to be desired but Dr Leeds is a top notch doctor and I shall miss him. I went down there today because of a free visit that was arranged through my health insurance. When I got there I find out that they are no longer a part of the network. The network just dropped them with no notice so I had to pay $ 60 for a visit that should have been free. I couldn’t have picked a worse day for an appointment. The health care system in this country leaves a lot to be desired. I shall miss Dr Leeds.

I found Dr. Leeds through a search on my insurance provider’s website. I had just moved to NY and was in need of a new PCP. Dr. Leeds himself was ver nice and friendly. His office staff was another story. I think he really need to retrain his office staff. I made an appt specifically for an annual physical, and it was clearly stated over the phone when I called in. The person taking the appointment didn’t even mention anything about fasting the night before my appointment until I brought it up. Anyways, I show up on the day of the appt and was charged for a copay, even though on my insurance card it said $ 0 copay for preventive maint. When I questioned her about the copay, she snapped at me and said «why didn’t you tell me you are here for a physical?!». Um, excuse me? Shouldn’t you know why I was there for? She was annoyed that she had to reverse the charge on my CC. She was straight up rude and not apologetic. They also force you to sign up for some online medical profile site that charges you an annual free, and if you don’t want it you would need to opt out at the end of the free 30 day trial. Seriously??? To top it off, i think the front desk staff ordered takeout and was eating it at the front desk, stinking up the entire office. It is just so unprofessional. I don’t know if I would be returning.
