Jimmy’s American Grill

It was a mediocre dining experience. But the service was fast, which was great cause we were super hungry! Over priced, $ 4 for adding a side of fries, maybe it’s because I’m from Michigan that seems like a lot for me. But I’ve lived in NY a while now, and it still threw me. Server was friendly, didn’t check on us until nearly the end of our meal. It was just ok.

This place was a huge disappointment i came in here starving and ordered the salmon salad. For the price I was expecting a nice piece of salmon steak. What I got was straight outta the can thrown on top of some greens topped off with cottage cheese. I couldn’t eat half of it. Avoid by all costs. The only thing I can see someone getting from here is a bud light from the bar. Not sure how you can mess that up.

It’s one of my favorite low key lunch spots. If I want a freshly made meal I go here and the drinks are great anytime of the day. The staff can be a bit random at times and sometimes the hold up to getting a bill and getting out of there. Usually filled with tourists or people having business meetings but it’s never over crowded. In the warmer months you can sit outside and it’s nice. You may come across regular NYC weirdos.

I was so hungry when I stumbled in this restaurant. I ordered the burger which was good but had too much cheese inside. My friend had a salad that was slightly overpriced. Overall nice place.

Just looking for a quick bite to eat when we came across Jimmy’s. Probably wouldn’t have chosen here otherwise. Food was what I expected it to be. Ordered a cheeseburger and got that’s exactly what I got. Nothing memorable about it. Half of my fries were cold and half were hot. My girlfriend ordered a chicken quesadilla which was decent but again nothing special. Would I come back here? Probably not if I had options but it got the job done

We had our hopes up for the chic fil a next door but it was closed to we came in here. This place SUCKS! I wish we looked at Unilocal before coming in here. We waited forever for everything. The food is a joke. The service is a complete joke. Our server was extremely rude. When we finally got our check they tried to force one of my friends to pay cash because «her bill disappeared from the system and it would be easier to pay cash». No. Never again. Save your money.

incredibly slow and rude, food was served cold and booth had ripped seats and dangerously slivered wood cracks.

I don’t think my review will mean anything for them because I see everyone else is complaining and nothing is changed. We been there with some friends, the food was discusting, the Chicken ice cold after we wait about 45 min, the seafood pasta was tasting like mold plus we I got in order of falafel and it didn’t have any sauces or something to dip it, and my boyfriend got a side of guacamole it didn’t come with any chips. I can keep going and going.
I gave them 1 star just for them service and sangria…
I will never go back and I don’t recommend no one !

Poor Jimmy. Service was friendly but not good. Multiple orders wrong and food took a long time to come out. Our group rates their food from nasty to just ok. Wouldn’t return.

My friend and I were wandering around Manhattan trying to find a place to eat. It’s holiday party season so we were not having any luck. He used to work right near Jimmy’s and suggested we give it a try. There is nothing to write home about with the décor. The center row of booths have a moving wall so they can accommodate 2 – 6 people depending on where they push the wall. We were seated next to another couple but the wall was almost all the way on our side. The couple was very nice and moved it towards them, allowing both cheeks to fit on the seat.
Our waitress was nice but we only saw her to take our order and once to check on us. The burgers were surprisingly good. I wasn’t expecting much and it was one of the better burgers I have had in a while. I ordered the Jimmies burger which is pastrami, Swiss lettuce and tomato. The burger was cooked to a perfect medium rare as ordered. The lettuce and tomato looked like they had been sitting around for a while. Fries were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. All in all, a good meal although it was pretty expensive. $ 16 for a burger and some fries but this is midtown Manhattan.

Late, walking back to hotel. Hungry. Nice gentleman at the front of restaurant said they were open.
Ordered baby back ribs and chicken noodle soup.
Soup was bland, no specific flavor, ribs were DRY.
Nice place, late at night, unfortunate regarding quality of food.
Servers were attentive

Was walking past and hungry. Looking for something kid friendly. Didn’t have a chance to check Unilocal prior to stopping in. HUGE MISTAKE!
Wait staff was friendly enough but not very attentive.
The kids enjoyed their kid meals but for $ 12.95 they could’ve gotten an adult meal at the same price. It included a scoop of ice cream.
My mom found a hair in her French fries so that ruined it for her… not that she was particularly enjoying the food prior to finding the hair.

We came in on a Sunday afternoon. The restaurant was not busy. We sat at the bar which was empty. It took a couple minutes for someone to greet us. We ordered drinks. My husband ordered a vodka club soda but was given tonic instead. We then ordered food which she did not write down. The burger was cooked well done but we ordered medium and it came with fries instead of opinion rings. I ordered a Philly cheese steak with no green peppers. They brought it loaded w/​green peppers but no onions. I sent it back and it came back with no peppers or onions. I just ate it anyway.
I’m surprised this place is still open.

The location of this restaurant was just steps away from the hotel, which was great. The breakfast was ok, the coffee was not fresh, the bacon was under cooked and the eggs where over cooked. The service was not good at all. It was very clear that the wait staff was under manned to deal with the volume of customers. We had to initiate someone to take our order, ensure that our order was correct and when we were ready for the check to pay.
Very poor experience.

Stopped in just because I happened to be passing by at lunchtime. It was unimpressive and my food was basic tourist fare, a high priced hamburger. Not bad mind you, but nothing to make me want to come back. The fries would make me think about it, but they don’t have the power to get me in the door again…

Meeting a friend I had not seen in about 3 years, I decide I can take a 20 minute walk to meet her for lunch at Café China. Well, 20 minute wait so we decide to look for other places around there. We should have stayed, it took us about that long to finally find a place we can eat at, and that turns out to be Jimmy’s. I had walked by here a few times before and the patio had always looked inviting, so we decide — reluctantly — to settle here.
The inside isn’t as nice as the patio, but it’s hot so we head in. The vinyl seats are ragged and peeling. The wait staff looks disinterested at first, but as the meal went on they actually got pretty good. No problem with the service at all. The food is very average and a tad on the pricey side for what you get. Decent taste, pretty salty, decent size for my shrimp scampi and my friend’s chicken scampi. Awful iced tea. This is what «good» American food tasted like 20 – 30 years ago, in the days of Sizzler’s and TGIF’s. It was either this or Le Grenouille, so I guess we’ve come quite a ways in that time.
While it’s decidedly average, I think 2-​stars is unjustified. Food is maybe 2.5, décor 2.5, and service, in the end, 3.5. so I’ll bump it up to a 3.
Table-​for-​1 Factor: Yes, since it seems like they can accommodate with their ample seats and nobody will think twice.

Not surprisingly, this place sucked.

Un super endroit pour un petit déjeuner délicieux et plus que copieux! Pas cher et un service impeccable! Les serveuses sont vraiment très sympa! Je recommande +++.

Don’t fall for this trip. Drinks suck and the food is typical shitty NY tourist food. Also, they control the music via iPod and skip songs half way through. It’s the most annoying thing ever.

Mike and I came here for a quick dinner this week. From the outside, the place look quite snazzy and we thought it was an American Restaurant but once we saw the menu, we realized it was a diner instead. After perusing the comprehensive menu, we ordered a serving of Mozzarella sticks which were good and came out nice and hot. Mike ordered an Egg Cream and I ordered an Shirley Temple. The Egg Cream was okay and the Shirley Temple was horrendous. What was annoying was that they charged more for a Shirley Temple because it was a specialty drink. If you plan on ordering something off menu, be sure to ask for the prices, otherwise you will be like I was… disappointed.
Mike ordered the Rosemary Chicken and I got the Chicken Tenders platter. Our food took over an hour to arrive. When we asked, the waitress was like «Oh, the food just takes a while to make», meanwhile people who came after we had our appetizer was getting their food first. All in all, our waitress didn’t seem really interested in being there or even noticed that we were there. However, a new waitress that just started her shift was more friendly and asked if we enjoyed our food… I wish she was our server instead… as she was lot more friendlier.
The Rosemary Chicken came with rice and a salad. It was a huge portion but it was a bit overly salty. I actually prefer lots of salt but even I thought it was a bit too much. The chicken tenders came with fries and a salad. It was a big portion of salad and too little chicken. The tenders were pretty skinny [about the thickness of an average sized finger].
The food is decent, huge portion and is very affordable but the service just blows.

I came here on a late night to pick up a burger and fries. Decided to go with the Italian burger deluxe. I have to say the seasoned fries were really good. The burger was good but not the best burger I ever had, it was a tiny bit not as flavorful as the fries.
Next time I will try a different type of burger.
