Easily my favorite gallery in the city. It’s a bright beautiful space, and the exhibits are always so incredibly unique from the other galleries in the area. Leila Heller focuses mainly on Iranian and Middle Eastern artists, but has had a wide array of artists exhibit there– including so many female artists which I appreciate seeing. They often host artist talks as well– which I’ve attended a few of including one with Shirin Neshat that was incredibly interesting and informative. I appreciate their approach– they don’t greet you upon entry, but let the art speak for itself and let you take whichever path you want and allow yourself to be drawn to whatever work you want without feeling any pressure.

Awesome collection came here for the CALLIGRAFFITI: 1983– 2013 exhibit. Kudos for having Rammellzee. The gallery is large. Don’t expect a warm greeting upon entering. We came for the art and not for the Hello. Good collection of works by artist like Kenny Scharf, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, and el Seed. Make sure to hit up Cheim & Reid just down the street.
