Very impressed. The restaurant is off the main road a bit, pleanty of parking. The outside was beautifully decorated with lights and looks like it’d be a ton of fun when it’s warmer. We had a 15 minute wait for a table, but the staff was great at interacting with us and keeping us updated. The live music was good. Margaritas very tasty and food was delicious(although took a while, but that was to be expected) overall great experience. Can’t wait to try it out in warmer months

Spoiler alert — skip to the bottom to read about the PECANCOBBLER… Very impressed, had heard about the place before and even looked around for it — it is a block or two off downtown formal. A spot you really need to punch in your GPS or have the street and address for. After parking in a dirt lot across the street, was pleasantly impressed by the garden and the smell of BBQ as I walked by the smoke shack. The ribs had a dry rub that was tasty and when you cut the meat open you could see the deep pink from how much the smoke had permeated. I am not sure of the type of wood but it was on the sweeter side. No sauce mopping was performed which actually made it stand on its’ own vs. hiding under a sauce. They did serve a sauce which was honestly different than any sauce I’ve had before. It wasn’t for me though. On another note, before serving the ribs they put a light coat of seasoning on the meat which made it pop a bit more. Not really necessary and not sure if it took away or not, but it was different and delicious. I also had the hot sausage and the beef. Very good too but the ribs really got all the love. Show stopper — the PECANCOBBLER. That’s no mistype, I didn’t mean pecan pie or peach cobbler — PECANCOBBLER. Get it with a scoop of ice cream and you’ll want to go home and slap ma and grandma for not learning how to make some of it earlier in your life. I have been cheated my whole life and now I need to eat too much of it to make up for it. Service — we had great service. It wasn’t the fastest to get food out but this isn’t a fast food joint. The owner/manager came by and chatted with us about the food and if we liked it and what was good or bad. His wife came over too and we ended up chatting with them for quite a while. It was very enjoyable and the social time was as good as the food(except I didn’t get a recipe for the pecan cobbler). Can’t wait to go back, considering a sheet of cobbler for Christmas, they sell a tray for around $ 40 I believe.

REALGOOD. A simple place, done perfectly. Margarita are great; just tell them you want booze not sweet and sour … and tip accordingly. Great meat and fish.

I work in the area and have eaten here for lunch many times. The service is hit and miss and the food is always average at best. Ok place, but nothing to write home about. Too bad cause it’s a locally owned place off the beaten path.

Amazing! I don’t know how this place calls themselves a restaurant. Two stars here is generous. So picture the scene: it is a Tuesday evening and a group of us having a meeting come in. Mistakenly, those that are the first to arrive tell the host we have a reservation. He spends ample time painstakingly trying to find said reservation-even calling the boss on the phone. HEYDUDE– the place is almost empty– pull some tables together! Then we find out that they don’t have some of the Specials written on the board. Hey– it is chalk– how about using an eraser. Then oops sorry no flat iron steak that seems to have a featured spot on the menu. So I order. I do not want the perfectly blended bean/rice thing on the menu. To get green beans I have to pay for an additional side. Ok, I’ll do it to get what I want. I requested that the bean/rice thing not be served. Oh no– can’t do that. I told the server that if she brought it, I would have her take it away. True to form– here comes the meal with the item I requested not be on the plate. Oh, by the way after ordering she came back to the table to announce they had no broccoli. Who does the ordering here! My food was cold and served with no type of sauce-server brought some when I asked. Less than stellar. I don’t want to eat somewhere when a large portion of the menu is not available.

The food is phenomenal. When it’s in season, try the mango margarita. It’s to die for. There is normally a bit of a wait, just because they are actually cooking your food. I love the ambiance in this place, as well. The outdoor seating is awesome. If you’re into it, they have a lot of live bands!

I’m giving this place 3 stars just due to short kitchen staff and the fact I couldn’t sit outside and take in the whole experience. I’m going to give this place one more shot in the spring/summer time, I’m expecting to bump it up to 4 stars. Pulled pork was very moist, margaritas very good, plus some decent beers on tap. Mac and cheese a a little runny, again blame the short kitchen staff. My companions got smoked chicken, I’ll be sampling that next time. This is a solid hole in the wall place buried in mansfield. Probably worth at least one visit if not more, and for sure when summer time hits.

Tried this place for lunch and have to say, really enjoyed it. It’s a bit confusing when you walk in as it took a bit before we were greeted an seated. Although all of the wait staff saw us, not one of them said hello. Once seated, our server was very friendly and helpful with suggestions. The food was good. Definitely want to return for dinner, patio, and live music!!!

Great small local place. Food is better than typical chain style. BBQ is good but not amazing. Love that we have a place like this to take customers and clients instead of normal child’s or TGIF. Service at times can be slow.

I worked here when I was 16. The food is just as good as it was then. The flavor of the smoked meats is a trip down memory lane and oh did I miss those fish tacos. Great work y’all. Perfect lunch today.

I love this place. They have great BBQ as well as the Grill. Their BBQ is really, very good — I LOVE their smoked chicken sandwich. Personally, I am obsessed with their fish tacos, burgers, and baked potato salad. And their margaritas. If you indulge, you can’t go to Steven’s without getting a margarita.

We go here occasionally, and have had pretty good service. However, we went tonight and had terrible service. They got my order wrong, failed to bring me things I requested, and actually never came back to our table. I had one of the worst, bland sandwiches that I have ever had. They didn’t even put all of the condiments on. Very disappointed, as it had a nice atmosphere. There was a table two tables down that got up and walked out after sitting for 15 min with no one even coming up to them. I hope they will work on service, or I will not continue to give them business. We were hoping to have a few drinks there, but due to the poor service, we left and went to another restaurant for a few drinks.

Let me just say that I’m happy I never have to go back here. By far one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had at a restaurant. We were visiting Mansfield to pick up a boat. We decided to waste time and have dinner. We saw their sign off the beaten path and decided to give them to try. We walked up and had that awkward pause on what to do. Walked inside and the young girl at the counter just stared at us. I had if we could sit ourselves or if she could be seated. She still stared. I gave her the benefit of the doubt that she didn’t hear. I asked again. Finally she decided to talk, «Well that ain’t my job. But I guess I’ll seat you anyway.» Had I known this would of set the stage for the next hour, we would have left immediately. We watched other tables be served for almost 35 minutes before stopping the waiter at the table next to us. We asked him if he could at least take our drink order and he told us he wasn’t our server and couldn’t help us. Then I asked if him nicely if he could get whoever our waiter/waitress was. His reply was awful,” I’m not sure if anyone is waiting your table. But I can find out.” After that point, we never saw him again. Another 15 minutes passed and we decided to leave. We were totally disappointed and we’re really looking forward to their food… everything sounded really good. If you’re looking to waste time and maybe get a waitress then this is the place to go.

Cool location and atmosphere. Outdoor seating when it’s not too hot makes it even better, however it’s not a place that serves good food. It’s mediocre at best. I’ve been twice and both times I tried something different, my wife as well and we both left disappointed. The wait staff was not attentive to our needs either. I will go back and sit outside and have a beer and appetizer but won’t eat a meal there.

My family and I wanted an early dinner, outside and in a quiet setting. We decided to go to Stevens Garden and Grill. We arrived around 4 and had to park in the back. After we all got out, some one standing there, and watching us unload two kids and a newborn, came over and asked us to move our car across the street. Evidently the band needed more room! We decided to go ahead and overlook the rudeness, figuring it was a band member. When we approached the door we asked a lady that worked there if we could sit on the patio. Without any hesitation, it was a definite, «NO!». After that reception, we decided our business was not wanted! So we loaded up the kids and took our business elsewhere, this time and for ALL future dinners! I was so disappointed in this restaurant. Oh well, one more restaurant on the«do not return list»!

My wife and I have wanted to try this place since we moved to Mansfield but it is off the beaten path and we just never have. We enjoyed our first visit, but this is a one of those places where Unilocal needs 3.5 Stars. I will echo the other reviews… the food is good(not great) and staff is friendly, but there are definitely times where you feel like you are being taken advantage of in regards to price and value. As an example, my wife ordered brisket nachos which came out on a large plate. Half of the chips had nothing on them(not even beans or cheese) and there were only a couple of scoops of brisket. The menu said romaine lettuce but it wasn’t on the nachos either. My wife asked for salsa to go with all of the leftover chips and I’m sure we were charged for that as well.

OK! I really enjoyed this place. Kind of a country style BBQ place that has a really neat outdoor area. The baked potato salad and the bbq sauce were REALLYGOOD! Everything else was good texas bbq. We will be back.

Like communism and jeggings, Steven’s Garden & Grill is nice in theory. Given the limited non-chain dining options in Mansfield, my husband had been wanting to try this place for a while. A vegetarian, I was reluctant but finally buckled this past weekend. I hoped for the best but readied myself for mediocrity. I’m glad I was prepared. As other reviewers have noted, the patio is nice and has a certain Texas charm slightly reminiscent of Luckenbach. And our waitress was pleasant and attentive. But the restaurant’s redeeming qualities end there. My husband ordered a beer and a three-meat dinner plate. Since I don’t eat meat and the menu doesn’t feature a single meatless entrée(not that I would expect that at a BBQ joint), I just ordered a glass of wine and some chips and guacamole. The drinks arrived first. My husband’s beer was fine, but my wine was of questionable provenance and the portion was diminutive. And as we all know, the only thing worse than a lot of bad wine is a little bad wine, since all wine is palatable if you can drink enough of it. My dismay was further aggravated when we received our check and saw that we had been charged $ 7.50 for said swill. This, my friend, is highway robbery. The chips and guacamole arrived next. I mistakenly assumed these would be a safe bet, but the chips were cold and clearly pre-packaged, as was the bland, overly pureed guacamole. How anyone can get guacamole wrong is beyond me. My husband’s entrée then arrived, and at $ 15 he was expecting a feast. How wrong he was. The portions were so small that for a moment he wondered if he had accidentally ordered from the children’s menu. And of the three meats(chicken, brisket, and sausage), he declared the sausage to be the least disappointing, a sad conclusion given the restaurant’s reputation for home-cooked brisket. The side of mac-and-cheese was the biggest letdown of all: a miniscule cup of gluey pasta coated in a flavorless and only vaguely cheese-like substance. I’ve made better stuff at home with a little blue box and cartoon-shaped noodles. As we trudged through our sad little meal, I declared that perhaps we could at least come back sometime and enjoy a drink on the patio, since, as Mansfield watering holes go, this one was relatively ambient. Then our bill arrived and we were faced with the aforementioned exorbitant drink prices. I can go to a steakhouse in Dallas and get a fantastic glass of wine for not much more than what they charged. In short, if all you’re looking for is scenery and the heady smell of a smoker wafting through the air in a biker– and child-friendly setting, Steven’s may be the place. The location and service are just fine. But if you come here expecting to enjoy a flavorful meal and a couple drinks at a reasonable price, then I have a bridge to sell you.
