This review is based on my education. They have good quality instruments and they have nice teachers. The piano teacher there is great! I got my flute there and it’s been fine up to now and I’ve had it for 3 years now and most likely more.

Don’t not go here. The staff is super rude and disrespectful. They didn’t help me at all with any questions I had. They’re prices are ridiculously overpriced. Overall do not give money to these people. I rather drive all the way to guitar center before I give these people any money

I have known the Janis family for almost 30 years and highly recommend this store and staff. George and Inda, and of course, Rocky! are wonderful. R.I.P. beloved Jeannette and founding father Edward Janis, Sr.

This review is based on their music lessons. My daughter has been seeing Chelsea for her piano lessons the past 3 – 4 months and she loves it. She has improved drastically and Chelsea has a lot of patience for my six year-old. The other instructors are great as well. Checkout their webpage for more information.

GOTOSKIP’s INSTEAD! I’ve been to many music stores throughout California, Oregon, and Arizona and Janis Music is the only one I’ll never go back to, even though I live only 15 mins away. I’d even go to Guitar Center before Janis. If Janis was the only place, I still wouldn’t go. I had a woman help me. I believe she is either part-owner or the owners wife. She was so completely RUDE! She made it seem like I was doing her a favor because she agreed to be of service to me. Bullshit! I wasn’t demanding. Just looking for I do and looking to pay for a service. What’s wrong with treating a customer like you’d like them to come back? Go to Skips in Modesto! Wonderful service, knowledgable staff and great people! The exact opposite of Janis.

I called the store first for pricing and to ask questions. My daughter is autistic and my worry was she wouldn’t be comfortable. She loves it and even better her teacher Aaron is so great with her. The owners are really helpful and experienced in what to rent or buy. My son will start drum lessons soon when baseball season is over.

Very rude!!! Its been a long time since I’ve been there because last time I was there they were rude too, but I tried it again. The lady followed me around like I was planning on messing up her store or take something. I HATE being followed around a store. I will ask if I have a question. I have two kids, both of which are very well behaved. I think a music store should be kid friendly and if it isn’t then I will find somewhere else to take my business. I think it’ll be a lot longer before I ever attempt going there again. HORRIBLE!!!

Poor Service, Poor Attitude I am a professional guitar player, and as such have had the great pleasure of visiting countless music stores around the world for more years than I care to mention. I have to say that in all my years I have never been spoken to or been treated with such poor service in a Music Store as I did in Janis Music. Being primarily a slide guitar player, and needing something that can cope with both unplugged gigs and lessons as well as amplified venues I asked the young male sales assistant for information on their range of Electro Acoustics… where he rather casually handed me a Takamine that was an acoustic only with no pick-up. When I pointed this out he said«Oh, you mean an Acoustic-Electric!» I shrugged and said«OK…may I try this?» A nice but overpriced Ovation Electro Acoustic. I took it off the wall and was then chastised for handling the instrument as there appeared to be many signs saying the guitars can only be removed from their wall-hooks by staff. Unusual but understandable and I apologized. I then proceeded to tune it to an open D or Vestapol tuning as I wanted to hear how the instrument sounded when played with a slide(I had brought my own with me). Immediately the young man said«What the hell are you doing!?!» I replied that in order for me to hear what it sounds like I need to tune it to an open tuning. He very beligerantly took the guitar from me and said«Well don’t!»…I was speechless and stammered«Uhm, I need to do it in order for me to buy it…» His response was a simple«Well it’s my guitar, you didn’t ask and if you did I would have told you not to!» I had only detuned the bottom E 2 semitones and he grabbed a digital tuner and quickly began trying to retune the whole guitar, muttering«unbelievable». The discussion continued on the basis that I assumed he wasn’t a guitar player but I was evidently mistaken. His knowledge of open tunings, however, was woeful and his attitude stank. I commented that in all my years I had never heard of such a bizarre thing; he just said«it’s done now, you better get over it.» Now I appreciate that it is a small store and their stocks will be a bit limited as they have to cater for a lot of instruments but their stocks are a little too limited and a bit on the expensive side, their service is disgusting and this young man’s attitude beggared belief. I mean, when you are looking to buy a car don’t you adjust the seat and mirrors before you drive it?! If you are a musician seeking good advice from experienced knowledgeable polite sales staff avoid this place and /or this young man.
