My husband and I, along with four other couples that we know, spent Valentine’s Weekend at the Cameron House Inn. It was our first experience with a bed & breakfast, and now I’m wondering why I waited so long! The Cameron House Inn is charming and welcoming. When we walked in the door on Friday afternoon, the smell of homemade oatmeal chocolate chip cookies greeted us. While our group spent time catching up with each other in the living room in front of the fireplace, Jennfier(our lovely hostess) was in the kitchen baking a red velvet cake for Valentine’s Day! After attending the Stumpy Point Oyster Festival on Saturday, we returned to the Inn and sat on the back porch and enjoyed a roaring fire(it was a bitterly cold weekend). The refrigerator was stocked with bottled water and soft drinks, and coffee and hot chocolate were always available. We stayed in the Avocet room, and it was very cozy. I can’t say enough about Jennifer, though. Her cooking and hospitality were tops! Can’t wait to go back next year!

My boyfriend and I had an amazing and romantic experience at the Cameron House. I highly recommend staying in The Avocet room with the beautiful, large tub! We loved sitting on the porch drinking coffee in the porch swing and riding the bikes around the island! Jennifer makes a mean breakfast and makes you feel right at home! We can’t wait to come back! Definitely the best place to stay on the island!

Our stay at the Cameron House Inn was our first experience at a bed and breakfast and we were so thrilled to have such a wonderful time. Our reservation was for Valentine’s Day weekend 2014 and we traveled 2 hours to get to our destination. I emailed the innkeeper ahead of time to make sure she was aware that we would arrive outside of the normal check-in times. She was almost immediate in her response and reminded us that we would have a complimentary bottle of champagne waiting for us on arrival — she even asked if we preferred a dry or sweet varietal. When we arrived, Jennifer greeted us promptly and gave us a tour of the home, even taking the time to describe its history and unique architectural features. Some of the best parts of our stay: * Our room was attended to each day — the bed was made, fresh towels and soaps provided, etc — everything you would expect in a traditional hotel. * Baked goods everywhere! And I mean, delicious. Cherry bars, Reese’s cookies, you name it. There was something delicious to sample at all times. * A fully stocked mini fridge — waters, sodas, juices, etc. This came in handy as we would venture out for the day. * Hot breakfast! Prior to our stay, I had seen some reviews where guests complained about the lack of a hot breakfast. It seems that the innkeepers have responded to the feedback and really stepped up their game — we enjoyed a wide variety of food both days. * The ambiance — plain and simple. This place is so cozy and inviting I didn’t want to leave. Although we spent quite a bit of time being tourists, we really enjoyed coming«home» and relaxing in front of the fireplace, reading, playing Scrabble, enjoying a glass of wine. I could go on and on but you get the gist. We loved this place so much, we will return again and again! Thank you to Jennifer and Bernadette for their hospitality. We’ll see you again soon!

My wife and I just spent a week in the Avocet room on the first floor of the Inn. This was our first time on the Outer Banks, and my first time in a Bed and Breakfast. I’m afraid the Cameron House may have spoiled me for other B&Bs because we had such a great experience. The room was clean and comfortable, with a killer tub. And the cats were great! The breakfasts were marvelous — so much food: homemade biscuits and sausage gravy, eggs cooked to order, homemade cinnamon buns and other breakfast breads, fresh fruit, and yogurt. With this kind of breakfast(and the great dinners we had in every restaurant we tried in the area) we did not need to eat lunch any day we were there. And there were always homemade cookies available in the family room. We were basically told to make ourselves at home, and we did. The family room and porches are great places to sit and unwind. Unfortunately, we did not get around to using the fireplace on the back porch until the last night we were there; but we did sit on the back porch a couple times and just read. We pretty much had the place to ourselves for most of the week. The area around the Inn is a nice, quiet neighborhood, within walking distance of Old Town Manteo, which has some quaint shops and a couple good places to eat — we recommend the Full Moon Café for lunch or dinner. We were also within a short driving distance of Fort Raleigh(«The Lost Colony»), the NC Aquarium, and the Roanoke Island Festival Park. Nags Head is just across the causeway. What we especially enjoyed was that we were away from the hustle of the Nags Head strip and the beach drive, but could get there quickly any time we wanted. We recommend this place to anybody who wants a peaceful, quiet place to unwind and relax. We will definitely be back!

Spent two nights here in the Fall of 2012. Stayed in the Featherstone room on the second level. Cozy room with a gas fireplace and large full bath. The inn was beautifully decorated and conveniently located to downtown Manteo. This was our first B&B experience so I wasn’t sure what to expect. The innkeepers were very friendly and welcoming. Our favorite feature of the house was the back porch with a fully stocked fireplace. My wife also loved the array of cats that live at the inn(outside cats). Breakfast was served at 8am and was delicious both days. Day 1 featured quiches, bacon, home fries, fruit, yogurt, and biscuits & gravy. Day 2 featured sausage links, fruit, hashbrowns, scrambled eggs, and grits. Coffee, hot tea, water, and sodas were available at no extra charge 24⁄7. Overall we loved our stay. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Manteo as you are literally 2 – 3 blocks from virtually everything downtown. My only negative is that the bed wasn’t the best but by no means the worst.

Warm and friendly people, very helpful about things to do, suggestions, recommendations. A good balance between part-of-the-family and service. Breakfast is serve yourself rather than made to order, but the quality/variety was good, and if you need/want something particular they will get it for you(thanks, Bern! :) The location is convenient for day trips by car, and they provide bicycles for local excursions. A lot to do and see in the Outer Banks!

We just made our third trip this year to the Cameron House Inn to ring in the New Year. In March, we brought our teenage son and stayed in the Mirabella room. It has an attached room so he could have his own space and we could have ours. At the beginning of December, we selected the Avocet to celebrate our anniversary. The casual atmosphere and all the comforts of home without the interruptions and distractions are what bring us back. Mornings are special because we can take our coffee, fresh fruit, cereal, and pastries outside and relax in the warmth of the fire on the back porch. We enjoy reading the comments that people leave about their stays. Many of those writers are like us — they keep coming back because the tranquility of the Inn makes them feel at home and the hospitality is wonderful!

My husband and I spent a weekend there in late December while attending friend’s wedding. The overall impression was«OK — but nothing to write home about». I’ll start with positives: — The common room is really cute. It has a comfy leather sofa and a fire place — The place is conveniently located on the main street of Manteo — The staff/owners are extremely friendly, and will generally try to help — The place is clean Now, the negatives: — The breakfast is really miserable. It’s a self service breakfast, with cold old bagels, 1 spinach/mushroom quiche that they served both mornings, also, they had these cinnamon roles(purchased probably at Giant) that they also served both mornings — The heating in our room stopped working the second night we were there so we FROZE to death. As you can imagine it was extremely unpleasant — Our room was on the second floor(Mirabela) and since it was raining all day, as we returned to our room at night the roof started leaking. I actually had to place a bucket to catch the water. Needless to say, the owners did not even offer to lower the price, or compensate us in any way. They did apologize, but that really does not do us any good. We are definitely not going back to that place. If you are planning on staying there, dress warm and be prepared for lovely rain drop sounds that will keep you up all night.
