Unfortunately the orchard looks to be permanently closed. Very sad about this. It was a great place.

I’ve never been to an orchard where you can sample right off the tree. That is awesome! I think I had my fill tasting all the different types of apples they had here. Everyone was very friendly and we had a blast trying to find that perfect apple at the tops of the trees. Luckily I’m pretty tall and could grab those. With so many types of apples that were ripe, we had a hard time picking which ones would fill the bag. In the end we pick a good mix of Ginger golds, haralsons and apple crisps. The only down side was that the bouncy house was down with a hole in it and I wouldn’t really call 2 goats and 1 sheep a petting zoo. Those didn’t stop us from having lots of fun though!

I love Homestead Orchard. I’ve been coming here every fall for the past 10 years. Unlike Aamodt’s or some other highly commercialized orchards, Homestead is a smaller, family-run place that still has tons of trees for pick-your-own apples. They have over 12 varieties of apples in the orchard, and when we went last weekend they were picking 8 different kinds. What I love most about the orchard is the friendly and knowledgable people who run the place, and the fact that you don’t have to pay to get into the orchard and then pay for your apples, what a rip! I also like being able to wander the orchard and actually test the apples you are picking. This is an awesome place to come with family or friends for a great fall afternoon. The drive into Maple Plain is also very beautiful and hilly, especially this time of year when the leaves are changing.
