Stopped here for lunch with someone else from one of the plants around here. Chester is pretty desolate when it comes to food options and this is close enough that we made the drive. The vibe of this dinner is really relaxed — feels like one of those tv diners where there are friendly women who serve up coffee to cold case cops. There is a tv playing the news in the side room so as you wait for your food you can catch up on the days happenings. I’m a vegetarian and this place has a ton of options including a veggie panini and veggie burger. I ordered the veggie panini with fries… it also comes with coleslaw but I didn’t eat any. Overall, this was really satisfying. The panini was great and it had a really good pesto sauce on it. Fries were very tasty as well but nothing special. Service was nice — waitresses use«hon» when talking to you. Food came out quick and hot. I’d definitely come back here if I needed to take someone out for lunch at work.

This was a great diner. I had the creamed chip beef and it was delicious. I had scrapple a Philadelphia tradition which was so good. I can’t get scrapple in RI. The staff was nice and many locals go here. They are welcoming to new comers. There is free parking and a expansive menu.

My wife and I go to Sungate usually once a week, and sometimes more often. We’ve been doing that for about four years since we moved to the north side of Wilmington. That alone probably says a lot about my review, because we literally drive by who knows how many eateries and across the state line to get to Sungate. Sungate is also located on the edge of what appears to be an industrial wasteland, which we also drive through to get there. An old, vacant rusty steel facility, and who knows how many oil storage tanks. The good news here is that once you transit all of that, a very nice, impeccably clean diner awaits you. I’ve tried any number of menu items here, and have never had a bad meal. I’ve only had one bad menu item– the potato skin appetizer is to be avoided at all costs. This in no way diminishes my review. When you have a diner menu with who knows how many items, what’s remarkable here is that I’ve only found that one item to avoid. Any breakfast you order here is amazing. The burgers are respectable. My favorite dinner item is the hot, open faced roast beef sandwich. Piled high with tender, fresh sliced beef. No way can you leave here hungry. I’ve even tried the prime rib and steaks. No, it is not Harry’s Savoy Grille. But at less than half the cost, I’d take Sungate’s offerings on these items anytime. The staff is remarkable. Friendly and attentive. Food is served quickly and professionally, and the iced tea glass never is empty. Heartily recommend.

This food at this restaurant is very fresh and tasty. The floor and tables looked very clean. I especially enjoyed the western omelet with the fried potatoes. The service was very good. It was a little noisy during lunch time but other than that, I’ll be coming back again at this place.

Disappointing given the great reviews from other patrons. I ordered the«Eggs, potatoes and hash» special. It was special in a bad sort for way. The hash tasted like it was dumped out of a #10 can and heated up. No flavor and felt disgusting in the mouth. The coffee was weak, the hash browns were those tasteless potatoes that are boiled before grated — or they tasted that way. The toast was warm and damp as if it had been setting in a steamer to be kept warm after it was toasted hours ago. I ate the eggs, potatoes and one half slice of bread but could not stomach the hash. Maybe the quality was the price of all of this which was less than $ 7 and it wa a huge pile of food! What could you expect for that price? If I could have eaten all of that I’d sure not be hungry for a long time! I’d rather pay more, get less and have some quality. This was what I imagine prison food must be like. I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant! No nonsense women in their 50’s moving fast to take orders and deliver the goods with a «Here you go Hon!» announcement. The place is clean and neat with booths like from the olden days. A long and fine granite counter top that is spotless with stools for us guys who want it served fast. It is a place where regulars meet and talk business or just bullshit while they eat their breakfast. I like this place — but not the food.

Great breakfast. I always get their chipped beef gravy and home fries with gravy on the home fries. Hubby usually gets there French toast. Almost every Sunday morning we call for take out from Sungate Diner. We have had their omelettes, eggs Benedict and pancakes and the food has always been good.

This is a great little diner right next to the railroad tracks going through Marcus Hook. It might not look like much from the outside, but the few times that I’ve been there, the food has been just right and the service has been fast and friendly. We’ve only been there for breakfast — the omelets are cooked perfectly and the hash browns are really good — but I imagine their lunch/dinner options are good too.

Local town diner that is very good for breakfast. This place is packed on the weekends, but the breakfast served here is good and food comes out relatively fast. Be careful though as sometimes they mess up an order from time to time due to it being so busy. This place is rated highly due to it’s proximity to home.

Hello again, Sungate Diner! I came here with my boyfriend, sister, and brother-in-law for a late lunch on Saturday(03⁄28), expecting another delicious meal. And Sungate, you did not disappoint. I guess the Spanakopita I saw earlier was a special item, because I didn’t see it on their regular menu this time. So I chose the crab cake sandwich instead, which came with fries and my choice of cocktail or tartar sauce(cocktail sauce FTW, by the way). The crab cake was stuffed with jumbo lumps of crab meat, and the bun had a sweet, buttery texture to it that complemented the tangy flavor of the crab. Our server, David, was super friendly and very helpful, and he gave us more than enough time to finish our meals. I can’t wait to come back to see what else Sungate has to offer.

My family and I have breakfast here at least once a month. They have great food and service. I would say we are considered regulars here. The food is very reasonable in price and they give great portions. It’s your local diner where everybody knows each other and have a great atmosphere. During the summer the air conditioning is turned up very high so bring a jacket.

This review is for October 2014 although it’s the same the dozens or so other times I have been here since discovering it in 2009. The Sungate is an oasis among the steel and tunnels and pipes that dot the landscape in Marcus Hook– an oil refinery town. First: It is very reasonably priced comfort food. Breakfast is great and so is lunch. Dinner is full service soup to nuts so to speak. Service: Always good. All servers are equally good. They seemed to be cut from the same cloth. The recognize you if you go back. At one point in late 2013 when I hadn’t done my usual weekly stop in on the way home from work for 3 weeks running, when I came back everyone who wasn’t wrapped up with a client came over to say«Hi». And they had no idea I did Unilocal reviews. Its just that kind of place. A place you like to take friends and family to for consistently good comfort food and service. Ambiance: It’s a diner. Clean, cheerful. Well lit parking.

I’ve been here three or four times and this place is the quintessential 50s-style diner. Huge menu, good hours, and lots of desserts! The staff is really great(quick and sharp) and the food quality, plating, flavor, and speed are all solid. Definitely stop by if you’re nearby and in the mood for a good diner meal.

I teach at a school close to here, and come here occasionally to use it as a teaching site for special needs students, and I appreciate them working with us. I also love their food, but keep in mind, I also love diners. All of the Rubens and Eggs Benedicts have probably already taken years off of my life.
