Gelson’s Market

Got a ton of buffalo yogurt with various flavors, yes buffalo yogurt which I have never heard of, in strawberry, blueberry, and honey as well as a bag of granola thanks to the guy who was giving samples. I was looking for something like this to add to my breakfast meal that is always consistent every morning. I am gearing towards optimum health because I am studying for something huge.
I also got a huge box of refrigerated strawberry probiotics which I will be taking for awhile because I need to boost my immune system super fast. I just cannot stand being sick during this time of the year when everyone has allergies and cuties and I do not want to get sick, but rather live a healthy and productive life. I love how Gelson’s has everything and just the other day, I stocked up on all the fruits they have here, from mangoes, pineapples, strawberries, oranges, etc but I was super pissed that someone ate the strawberries without me touching them yet. My mom bought lamb for her lunch this week.
I love coming here because everything is top notch. I don’t go anywhere else and I refuse to patronize Whole Foods because they aren’t as exceptional as Gelson’s. Gelson’s has the best customer service, presentation, but most of all selection of rare items some that are imported, but definitely most that are unique and excellent quality. All the items are so good.
Today I also got the Oxygen water. Very tasty and although the prices can be expensive, the quality is well worth the price, at least in my book.

I really love this Gelson’s. I have fond memories of coming here as a child with my grandfather and getting various desserts from the bakery. I now frequent the café/​bakery here with friends for coffee and dessert at night. Despite being underground, there are two different seating areas that are calm and quiet. I have to give a shoutout to the bakery workers because they are SO sweet and friendly. Truly, all wonderful. My favorite from the bakery is the chocolate rugelach– flakey, chocolatey, and delicious. They also have quite a few cookies and pastries that highlight the apricot, my favorite fruit! Oh, and great coffee too!

I think Gelson’s makes thee best blended mocha drinks. In addition the service there is always friendly and awesome. I love there Wolfgang chicken and sandwiches.

Vibe: Calm, quiet, very spacious. Very enjoyable place to shop.
Food: High quality items throughout. Has a fresh sushi, fresh seafood, deli, and meat areas. Never disappointed by the food quality and flavor here.
Service: All of the staff here is extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and courteous. Makes shopping here very hassle free and relaxing.
Overall: The best place to do your grocery shopping in the MdR/​Venice/​SM area. Also a great place to pick up fresh flowers and arrangements for you girlfriend/​wife.

I always felt Gelson’s was one step below Whole Foods in quality and customer service. I stand corrected. I bought some of Gelson’s natural, antibiotic free, vegitarian fed chicken only to find that it was bad. Not just «poor quality» bad — as I cooked it I began to see a strange brown goop under the skin of the chicken (not blood) which oozed out when I cut it open. Never in my life have I seen meat like that.
The manager explained, «Well, sometimes a chicken gets sick and we don’t know. We can’t cut every chicken open and sell it to you like that.» Had I eaten whatever was in that chicken, I doubt I’d be writing a review. They need to check their supplier asap and they definitely need to be less condescending to a customer who saved them and potentially other customers a LOT of trouble. If you want to know you’re eating safe meat with all these recent outbreaks, I’m not sure you want to be shopping at Gelson’s…yuck.

Honestly, I really didn’t like the idea of going to a «basement» to buy food. There’s just something about that. Being at an underground level, the space just felt stuffy. They still have their standard products and everything is still neat and clean, as expected at any Gelson’s. I called ahead to have some turkey set aside for Thanksgiving pickup. Customer service was great and the whole process was easy and convenient. I ended up picking up some stuffing as well. If it weren’t for the location, I might come here more often. Oh and their in-​store bakery, Victor Benes, is pretty awesome, I must say!

Great and fresh food. Perfect choice if you want fresh fruit and vegetables for breakfast.

Bought a serving of Chicken Romano today from the hot food deli section. Got home, took my first bite, into RAW CHICKEN. Absolutely disgusting. Very upset after paying their outrageous price for raw chicken covered in soggy bread crumbs.

Gelson’s isn’t the cheapest option, but the customer service here is fantastic. The store is always clean and the staff is very stable — I have been seeing the same core of staff members for the past 5 years. They have an excellent selection for a small store and special requests are never a problem here.
I have had issues on a couple of occasions with things I bought at Gleson’s. The manager never even blinks when he/​she replaces or refunds to make it right. They fix problems immediately upon notification.
Finally, the location can’t be beat if you live nearby in Marina Del Rey. Gelson’s has dedicated underground parking so there is no searching for a space. They have a nice café-​area where you can eat deli items right in the store. And it is only a few steps from checkout to your car — easy!
I highly recommend this store.

Well kept store. Prices are extremely high for normal groceries. The pre made food is not half bad. I really like the baked goods. Most of the alcohol is cheaper than other stores in the area. Only dislike it feels like a basement.

This is my go-​to store! It actually makes me happy to be in Gelson’s. The aisles are so neat, the staff is so friendly, it is just such a pleasant place to shop. Yeah, it’s pricey, but they have everything I want, and some things that I can’t get elsewhere, like 6-​packs of Eternal alkaline water, and Santa Cruz Organic Dark Roasted peanut butter.
Their deli section is top notch, and they have Italian butter! Their packaged salads (most of them Wolfgang Puck) are fresh and special, and their produce is the BEST! I think their produce is better than Whole Foods.

There was an employee here on my last visit, Danny. He was super helpful and friendly. He had a rest attitude. I know it can be hard and frustrating to deal with customers who have special dietary needs, but Danny was very patient with us and answered all of our questions with the appropriate knowledge and a smile. Employees like this make it worth the return visit.

I’ve been shopping at this Gelson’s for about six months now and I have to say I’m growing to like it. I’m giving four stars because they always run out of the LA Times on Sunday. Produce is super fresh, meat is of excellent quality, and bakery sells beautiful cakes, pies, and tarts. Customer service is top notch.

Love this store. They’re open on major holidays, it’s never crowded, no long lines to wait in, super friendly service, and excellent products. I was hosting a holiday dinner at my house on a busy weekend and didn’t want to deal with cooking a main course, so I called Gelson’s ahead of time and asked to reserve 3 rotisserie chickens for me to pick up just before guests arrived. It was so easy, they wrapped everything carefully so I could bike home with the chickens, and everyone commented on how delicious it was. Will definitely do the same thing for future dinner parties.

Gelson’s is the worst. It’s like every other crappy grocery store but you have the added pleasure of playing twice the amount. If you really want quality food that is noticeably superior quality than you have to go to Whole Foods.

There are quite a few great things about Gelson’s. Unfortunately, their prices are so ridiculously high in some areas that unless I was shopping for a unique product or for a special occasion, I would probably never shop here. I was sent a $ 10 gift certificate when I moved to MDR so thought I’d take a swing by Gelson’s and see what’s changed since I last visited their Irvine location.
First of all, parking is a snap. On a Saturday at 5pm the store was entirely empty except for a small handful of shoppers. It is very clean and organized and they have some unique products.
I ended up buying dessert. Each slice of cake was more than $ 5 each. They tasted great and were beautiful but as I said… maybe for a special occasion. What really got me was that the same tomatoes they sell here are exactly double then that at Ralph’s. No difference in quality, but the EXACT same product, size, label, etc. Just because you have the money, doesn’t mean you need to throw it away!
The staff are very friendly and helpful but I don’t see myself making a lot of repeat trips.

What’s not to love about Gelson’s? I stopped in here for the first time to pick up some green juices and other items. I like that the Gelson’s markets are always clean, spacious, well-​maintained, and have great service. They also have great bakery and deli sections. Always nice to shop here. I also love ordering their deviled eggs from the catering section for parties.

Okay, the only reason I want to do this review is for the bakery. And one specific cake really. The Princess Cake. It’s vanilla cake, with cream, raspberry filling, and covered in a layer of marzipan. Oh sweet jesus. It looks funky, I know, but it’s so goddamned good. Normally, I’m not a huge fan of fondant cakes, and while marzipan isn’t fondant, the texture and idea is pretty similar. So when I tried this cake, I couldn’t believe it. Everything works together so perfectly, in such beautiful unison, that one slice is really not enough.
And of course, the other things they have at this bakery look pretty damned yummy if I do say so myself, the princess cake just happens to be my favorite.
And Gelson’s itself it a pretty cool store, pretty high-​end and has a lot more organic selection than say your average Von’s or Ralphs. Really unique options here.
