Norman C Stirling MD

I had an excellent experience with Dr. Stirling. I was his patient on and off from 2005 to 2012. He cleared up my acne and removed a mole. I could always get a same day appointment with him. He was also available on Saturdays. His practice had beautiful views of the Marina. To top it all off he had an excellent bedside manner. His prices were very affordable. I initially made an appointment after calling various dermatologists’ offices to get quotes on acne treatment, his prices were the lowest. May he rest in peace.

Dr. Striling was a good doctor. I was just informed this morning by his office that he passed away in November 2012. I assume the practice is now closed.

I’ve been going to Dr. Stirling for over 30 years, nearly all of it to treat dysplastic nevi (pre-​cancerous skin growths; I spent a lot of time in the sun as a kid). He’s always been very good at explaining what he finds and what the treatment options are. He’s also been happy to tell me that a dark spot I found is nothing to worry about, and when to bring it to his attention should that change. He took extra care for the one on my face, and it is very hard to see.
The office is well run, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The wait times do seem long at times, but I can’t grudge it: I figure everyone else is also getting thorough treatments and full explanations.

I waited almost an hour past my appointment time for my first consult, was rushed out and given medications. Then, waited another 30 minutes after my recheck time for the next appointment just to not ever get a return phone call after my multiple calls to the office with a simple question for the doctor. Finally, I recieved a bill in the mail from a lab I didn’t know anything about and never received results from. Awesome. The receptionist seemed very under-​educated and rude, but somehow self-​entitled, while the doctor made me feel like I was simply business to him. I have had mutlple people ask about my experience here and advised them I will never go back OR send anyone to a place where they don’t feel like their issues are being addressed (and where they may also receive bills from labs across the state). Very poor form for Dr. Stirling and hi staff as far as I’m concerned.

I went to Norman Stirling for a couple summers when my acne was bad. He did a really good job on my face and was always extremely kind, gentle when doing any sort of procedure. He always went out of his way to make sure that I understood what he was doing and that I understood how to take care of my skin.
However, I agree with the other review which talked about the long wait times. There would be times when I would be sitting in an empty doctor’s office for long periods of time. I’d much rather stay waiting in the lobby but oh well.
The nurses were always friendly and very professional.
