I haven’t had much involvement with the historical society in the past but we were asked to have our house on the tour and we decided it would be fun thing to do. However, the experience left a bad taste in my mouth! We were told that if it rained they would supply booties as to protect the historical homes, this did not happen. We didn’t get the sign in the yard until well after the event started, and it seemed that no one really knew what the plan was as we didn’t really get informed. We really enjoyed the visitors and all the great feedback on our house but the historical society fell short. I have volunteered and worked for non profits and I haven’t seen anything like this. What really made me write this review is the fact that almost a month has gone by and we haven’t received a thank you note. This is not the way an all volunteer org should work! When people open their home for a nonprofit who is charging for the event the easiest thing to do is to acknowledge this and all of their volunteers who make up the historical society. Prior to not getting the thank you note, I was ready to donate my services and help the historical society, but after this I just don’t think I want to spend my time and energy on this cause. It is really sad that they fell so short as it is important to keep history alive.
