Had the smoked turkey sandwich and have to say it’s the best sandwich I’ve had in ages! Super moist and perfectly smoked. The bacon was super tasty and the bread was toasted nicely. Quite surprised how much I enjoyed it! Also must mention the carrots on the side, super tasty! Should report the clam chowder was really tasty as well but a bit too salty for my wife.

I have been going to this place for over 20 years. I love the location and love their Oysters, but the prices have raised to a ridiculous level. $ 20.00 for 6 Oysters. I am sorry that is just too expensive. I have to drive 4 hours to get there and have done that many times. I am sorry to give them a 2 star rating because of this. But hey if money is no issue to you then it is a 5 star place :-)

Came here to grab a bite to eat before heading to the Oyster Co. I ordered a turkey sandwich with the expectation of getting something to soften the raw oysters down the line. Once the sandwich came in, I was so surprised to the sweetness and deliciousness of the meal. The carrots really helped offset the sweetness of the sandwich. The bread was crisp and soft with the inside of the bread sweet. Definitely recommend stopping by

Awesome place and awesome food ! I enjoyed my dungenese crab sandwich. –1 star because they don’t have restrooms instead they have porter Pottys. Great spot to enjoy a sunny day too.

Five stars for the combination of great food and unbeatable atmosphere. The raw oysters, BBQ oysters, and Kilpatrick(Worcestershire and bacon) oysters are all flavorful, plump, and absolutely delicious. Eating them outside on a sunny day, looking onto Tomales Bay, with a beer in hand, is about as good as it gets.

Great location and great quality food. It’s right on the water and on a good day it’s great to sit outside(if you can find a spot). Parking can be difficult so be prepared to wait for a spot of you go on a nice day during lunch. It’s a definitely a little pricey with 6 raw oysters at $ 15 and 6 grilled for $ 20. We got the Kirkpatrick grilled oysters with bacon and Worcestershire. There was more sauce then I would have liked because it made it a little harder to taste the oysters but you could tell they were well cooked and fresh. The garlic bread was a great compliment. The clam chowder was good but not great. A little watery but good flavor with large pieces of clams. The turkey sandwich was also really good and the bread they use is great.

What a great stop! The grilled oysters with bacon were incredible. The clam chowder was possibly the best I’ve ever had. So much briny clam flavor but not at all too salty. Just creamy and hearty enough without being too rich. However the fishermans stew was a unanimous meh.

Ok so I’m guessing the high ratings are all due to the oysters. They were crazy expensive here(about $ 20 for 6 grilled oysters!!) so we skipped it and tried: –Clam chowder? Oyster stew?: This was advertised as a clam chowder but sure tasted like an oyster stew. Also, it matched the photo of oyster stew on the wall. What??! Whatever it was, this tasted pretty good and herbal-y. –Fisherman’s stew: Who puts beef in fish stew? What?! I didn’t know it would come with beef and I don’t eat beef. I tried to eat a bit around it but the beef totally overpowered the fish. It was a hopeless cause. –Shrimp salad: tiny sad shrimp on a generic salad that reminds me of the pre-made salads I pick up at Safeway. –Fish tacos: this was also featured on the cover of Sunset Magazine according to their wall. It was ok. Acceptable. Oh yeah… these 4 things cost about $ 50 – 60. :(

Tip: Make sure you have your eyes out and aware because this place is very easy to miss on the side of the freeway. After a long day shucking oysters it feels good to not have to work for your food. The menu has a wide variety of food from grilled oysters, to sandwiches, to grab, and mussels. The outdoor tables are survival of the fittest and you can bring your own alcohol and hang out and drink it outside. In terms of food recommend getting the grilled oysters and the tri tip sandwich. Very close to hog island and tomales bay oyster company and only an hour away from San Francisco. If you’re in the area I would def check it out.

Just perfect! Sunshine + picnic tables + bubbly + the most delectable oysters! We arrived at ~2pm on a beautiful Saturday. The line took ~10 minutes. We ordered: — 6 raw oysters($ 15) — delicious! just order these! simple, pure, tasty! — 6 grilled oysters in chorizo butter($ 20) — I’d skip these next time. chorizo butter is awesome — but they were nowhere near as good as the raw oysters — fish tacos($ 15) — pretty good. would probably still invest in more oysters though. Great spot! Definitely worth checking out and, IMHO, better than Hog Island Oyster. Hope to return soon!

My fiancé and I were looking for oysters near the Bay Area and the Marshall Store came up. It was a bit of a drive, but a really beautiful one, and OMG the food was delicious. The view of the water and countryside were wonderful too. The prices weren’t too high, especially for the quality of the food, and I’m looking forward to my next trip out there. The people were really nice too.

Beautiful spot to hang out, drink and eat oysters! The food quality is 5++. These were by far the best oysters I tasted while in point Reyes for the weekend. They also had a nice selection of bottles of wines; lots of options for under $ 20 a bottle. Despite it being a pretty busy day, service was pretty fast. This place is really a no frills and food centric. You stand in line to place your order, stalk tables outside until one frees up and then enjoy your view and oysters. The wait to order can be long. At one point there was a long line out the door and still only one cashier. Also getting a seat outside is first come first serve. It’s really a hit or miss. Wish they could organize that set up a bit more. There are also certain areas where alcohol is not permitted but that was also unclear since I saw people drinking everywhere. Bathrooms are only porta pottys :( Can’t wait to come back! Try earlier in the day or later in the afternoon for easier seating.

The owner, Shannon, is amazing. With his help and the help of his awesome staff my fiancée and I got engaged here! We sat outside on the deck looking out into the beautiful Tomales Bay while Shannon prepared a platter of succulent BBQ oysters for us that were to die for. They were cooked perfectly with the shells still hot and the juices flowing. Then came the platter of raw oysters on the half shell which were served cool over ice; if we thought the BBQ’d oysters were good, we loved the raw ones even more. Best oysters I’ve ever eaten and even more so because it was served on the best day of my life: D Shannon placed the oyster I brought on the same platter as the raw ones and after an exquisite lunch I asked my girlfriend to shuck the last oyster which had her diamond ring inside. I got down on one knee, asked my best friend to marry me and she said yes!!!

My first visit was on Saturday. Loved the place! Plenty of seating indoors & out(slow day due to weather I’m sure). Dog friendly. I’ll still go to Hog Island for the Kumamoto’s on the ½ shell, but you can’t beat the smoked oysters at The Marshall Store. Next time I’ll try the chorizo oysters.

The creamiest and most fresh oysters I’ve ever had! What a cute spot right past Tomales Bay with a casual and homey ambiance, and an adorable outdoor bench seating with a stellar waterfront view. This makes for both a romantic date or a get together with family and friends. You order the food and pick up bottles of wine or beer at the cash register, and head on out to the deck for unravelling your feast! We ordered the clam chowder(so many yummy clams in there) and a variety of grilled oysters including the Chorizo butter and the Rockefeller. Our personal favorite was the Chorizo butter because of the meaty flavor atop such creamy oysters. But we also loved the Rockefeller and the clam chowder. Really, you can’t go wrong with anything here. Every item is completely fresh and bursting with flavor! Happy Eating, Unilocalers!

Just like an oyster, The Marshall Store sits remote from civilization. Like the oysters deep beneath the surface home, this place is far away both literally and figuratively. They too are worth the effort. Like an oyster being shucked you’ll come here and have your world opened. There are 3 main establishments in the relative area every oyster lover will go to and each type unique drawing a specific type of person. This is the experience of every oyster lover who comes down here. They know the name Hog Island from San Francisco so they come here first and hate it because they didn’t make reservations and didn’t come early and didn’t bring food, wine or anything, totally expecting full service oyster experience at a cheaper price than San Francisco. Then they learn of Tomales Bay, which sounds super authentic and then you realize it’s filled with people who on their 1st time went to Hog and are looking for a better experience. This is not for the newbie either. So you finally come to Marshall and it felt like heaven. I mean it still is heaven, but it’s a different kind. It’s not roll up your sleeves, get your hands dirty, come prepared sort of place. They really do things right, they are authentic enough to not cater too much to the city crowd, yet way more refined than Hog and Tomales for service and experience for the general public. The view to me is better here and the crowds are much more mellow after having ruined a morning, an afternoon, a day or multiple days learning the hard way about the oyster game around here. Please don’t come here with some massive group though. So tacky. I love the view, the service, the ambiance, it’s the only place I’ll bring people who may not be as oystery as me. They offer less classic offerings like bacon, chorizo, Kilpatrick and BBQ toppings on top of the usual lemon/mignonette and crushed ice. I personally like the BBQ and chorizo on grilled oysters versus raw. I found the Dungeness crab sandwich to be lacking, I also found out that it’s not smoked despite being under the«from the smoker» menu. It’s lacking flavor and could use a sauce. Probably showcase the crab and shrimp better on a louie salad. Tri tip is the way to go as I found the pulled pork to be dry, basic. I thought the braising in Guiness to do nothing, the aioli to detract from what’s supposed to be a natural sweetness. The turkey is good and hearty, dense, worth it for the hungry. Tri tip is santa Barbara style and balanced. The oysters are excellent, shucked or self shucked. They are pricier than other spots around, but like I mentioned most people do it all wrong and end up loving this place. The clam chowder is hearty and if you didn’t come here for the oysters you might come here for this(yes over anything in this city) I love their cheese selection which is great with bread plates. Their cocktail sauce is on point, hearty and bright. The décor is pretty basic, more outdoor-ish than indoorsy. Heed my advise and choose your oyster spot based on level of knowledge and skill and don’t be like all these 1 – 2 star people who did it all wrong by going to the wrong place.

Omg! This place is amazing!!! Came here on a rainy Sunday and the food was delicious and worth getting rained on. We ordered half a dozen raw oysters, the chorizo grilled oysters and a large chowder for two people. It was expensive(over $ 50) but worth it. There were only two other people so we had great seating inside and no wait. Since it was raining, they even gave us an extra oyster in each order. Cons: restrooms are outside and they portable toilets

What a treasure! You get what you expect. Great oysters and fantastic customer service. We had an order of raw, chorizo, Rockefeller and clam chowder… even the chocolate cookies were good. The staff was very pleasant and informative. They even went out of their way preparing a dozen of shucked oysters for us to take and cook our stuffing for christmas! We definitely recommend and will be back.

Quite a trek for some delicious oysters! We got there right before the lunch rush and found plenty of parking. Tri-Tip sandwich was delicious, did not like the pickled carrots that come with it though. Clam Chowder was really tasty too. Just don’t fill up on their other foods so you can save room for the oysters We got the raw oysters and 3 of the grilled oysters: Rockefeller oysters(cheesy), bbq oysters, and bacon w/oysters. My favorite was the bacon one but everyone else in the group liked Rockefeller the best. Tips: –There’s no cell service, or really really bad service, but they have wifi –they’re closed on Tuesdays –try to go the bathroom before arriving– no real restrooms; there are 6 or so port o potties by the side with the foot pump activated portopotty sinks –self serve coffee and water –get here before the lunch rush. When we left, saw the parking was full and only more people were coming –decent amount of seating; two indoor tables and several outdoor tables.

I just love this place. It has a great atmosphere and a wonderful house chipotle BBQ sauce that is to die for. Put it in the chowder on the fish tacos and especially on the oysters. If you want to drink wine or beer, you can buy it here but you have to sit outside. There are many tables looking at the bay so it is always our choice anyhow.

Fish tacos, cold beer, outside seating — what more could you want? This was the perfect lunch stop on our ride on Hwy 1 from Timber Cove to San Francisco — thanks to Unilocal for the find. Besides the tacos, we also shared the tri-tip sandwich. Both were delicious! It’s true you won’t have a signal here — couldn’t even check in on Unilocal(gasp!). And it’s worth mentioning they only have porta potties, so plan accordingly.

Loved this hidden gem. Make sure you sit outside and enjoy the amazing view right on the water. This place is a little hard to find as both google maps and our car GPS showed the location in different spots. But keep traveling along the road even if your gps says it’s in a different spot and you’ll come across it. A bartender at the place we had dined in Sonoma a couple of nights before recommended stopping here for some of the best oysters around when we told him we would be heading toward Point Reyes for the last day of our vacation. We would have never come across this place without his recommendation but are so thankful we did! Though there are other options besides the oysters they get from Tomales Bay and though they did look delicious, we stuck strictly to the oysters. And in a word, AMAZING. We did an order of the smoked oysters served on crostini and an order of the grilled Kilpatrick which was bacon and Worcestershire sauce. We even ended up with an extra order of the smoked oysters by accident and when we told them that they were extras they told us we got to keep them. We shared them with our neighbors and then scarfed down the rest and washed it down with an Anchor steam beer. The smoked were definitely my favorite but I loved soaking up the leftover sauce from the grilled oysters with the big hunk of crusty bread they included. If you’re lucky enough to live near here and can make the trek out to this location, GO! Best oysters around, I’m sure of it.

I drove past The Marshall Store on the way to Hog Island. It looked real busy so on the way back we decided to give it a try and I’m happy I gave it a shot. BBQ Oysters — 4 out of 5 — Nice smokey flavor. The BBQ sauce gave the oysters a nice tang and the garlic butter gave it a nice riceness. Oyster gets a touch lost in the overall dish Chorizo Oysters — 3 out of 5 — Kind of bland. Didn’t get much of a chorizo flavor, more of butter. Just ok. Clam Chowder — 5 out of 5 — It was a hot day and this was the last thing I thought I would get, but every person ahead of me kept ordering it so the wife and I gave it a try and we’re happy we did. It was one of the best clam chowders I’ve had. The soup had a great creamy clam flavor through. There was plenty of clam in the soup and they were nice and tender, not rubbery like most places. OVERALL Very happy we decided to swing by and can’t wait to come back and have the clam chowder again.

If you plan to spend a summer day in West Marin, hiking with seafood for lunch is a classic combo. After a beautiful hike in Point Reyes, we drove up Highway 1 to enjoy oysters along Tomalas Bay. Inside near the kitchen, we ordered from a strictly seafood/sandwich menu. Outside, deck bar seating and long, wood barrel tables gave The Marshall Store a relaxed, summer vibe. The bbq oysters soaked in rich garlic butter were delicious and the smoked fish plate was a wonderful sampling of fish and oysters with some goat cheese and bread. My friends really liked the pulled pork sandwich and fish tacos as well. With a wide open view of the water and seafood that satisfies, The Marshall Store is a great destination for a warm, sunny day.

Wow. Wow. Wow. Some of the BEST food I’ve ever had. Although located at least 2+ hours away from me, I would take the drive to dine at The Marshall Store every weekend. Upon arrival you’ll undoubtedly wait in(sometimes long) line to order your meal but once you get to the counter, see the staff making the(newly added) pulled pork sandwich right in front of you, you’ll forget the wait immediately.(NOTE: it’s WORTH the wait and the price) Right on the water and with tons of seating, it’s the perfect spot for your meal. Do not let the shack of a place fool you, this place is legit! Get ANY and ALL of the oysters. This is a must. Clam Chowder– wonderful. Smoked meats plate– WOAH. Grab a bottle of wine or beer and have the most incredible meal of your life. No joke; you LIFE. When you’re driving in, you’ll pass several other oyster spots– skip these and head to the end of the line where you’ll meet The Marshall Store. Actually, better yet, don’t head there so the line is a bit shorter for me. ;)

Look for me! Lost in the whirlwind, ’96(actually 2015), bonnie and clyde, me and my girlfriend doing 85 … all the way up the 1 to the Marshall… Store… ahem. My girlfriend and I actually had already picked up oysters from Tomales Bay Oyster Company to eat for later. We decided to check out the Marshall store because it’s only about 4 miles north of Tomales Bay Oyster Company. We ordered some wine and got BBQ Oysters. The oysters were yummy and cooked perfectly. Great service, and people were friendly. They gave us extra bread, a chipotle sauce, and an extra oyster. The view was free. Will be back again next time we are in Tomales bay.

The first time I passed by, I thought the reason for the crazy-packed pier here was because Marshall pretty much has a monopoly on providing food in this stretch of highway. It’s a convenient stopping place for tourists, campers, kayakers, and bikers. However, our kayaking/camping group had our minds set on eating clam chowder when we returned from our jaunt across the bay. When we didn’t see anyone on the deck that Sunday morning, and closed signs on 2 of the 3 doors(so confusing, but they are indeed all part of The Marshall Store), our hearts were in our throats. First looks are deceiving. Despite my disappointment at them not offering chowder in a bread bowl, everything we got was so fresh and deliciously crafted that I had to forgive them. The chowder had a great ratio of clams to potato to chowder, the bread rolls were chewy but not too tough, and the sandwiches were surprisingly tasty — it’s been a while since I had a great Pulled Pork! And my first experience with live oysters here was a high one thanks to the excellent preparation of cilantro sauce and lemon juice on our plump, juicy shellfish. Another thing they might be semi-famous for is their house-made Chipotle Adobo sauce. Find it on one of the tables and be generous with it. Sit back on one of their high chairs and enjoy. However, do be prepared to open your wallet wide for this level of food and friendly table service(the runners are super chill and personable!). The large bowl of chowder plus bread on the side comes to about $ 12 after tax, and the Smoked Fish Platter alone costs $ 20(no matter how good that salmon is, it will not fill you up). If utensils are not your thing or you’re just a messy eater like me, the bathroom«yard» has three port-a-potties and a matching foot-operated sink, with spray-soap. The water pressure isn’t that great though so you might be better off bringing your own hand sanitizer to get the job done.

Took the trip to the Marshall Store based on the Sunset article. Glad we made the trip! While the line was long, the food was really good, we had the BBQ& Kilpatrick oysters, the wife had the fish tacos. The fish tacos were the stand out winner, that is maybe why they were on the cover of Sunset. I order more tacos to go, they were that good! Only reason for a four star vs five. Prices were a bit high and the chowder was just OK. Oh I forgot to mention how awesome the view is from the deck. I could sit there all day long sippin a beer and shooting oysters, but alas the family was ready for another hike.

After visiting the Point Reyes area, we decided to get some north bay oysters & the Marshall Store was a delicious find! The weather was perfect the day I went and it was the best waterfront view you could have while dining on fresh oysters. The self-serve, warm clam chowder hit the spot, but the real treasure is the oysters of course! We ordered raw oysters($ 15 for 6, served with lemon) and the chorizo($ 18 for 6, baked oysters with chorizo and butter). The chorizo oysters also came with garlic bread — perfect for soaking any leftover oyster juice left in the shell(yum yum). I loved eating the raw oysters to taste the freshness of the Tomales Bay oysters and eating the baked oysters to get the warm, chorizo sausage flavor. Everything was perfect: the view, the oysters, the staff. It was pure bliss and a nice getaway before heading back through the windy roads to the city!
