If you’re looking for your pierogi /polish food fix look no more. This place is authentic as it gets. I’ve tried most of the polish spots in the big apple and this has by far the best pirogies around ! It’s a take out spot but you’ll prob Wanna find a table fast giving into the urge of how good and fresh these pirogies are. They have asserted flavors Id stick with the potato. I really love polish food and I really love this place.

Tried the hot lunch at Krakus today. It was very good and you get a very generous portion for $ 8. You get a choice of potatoes or rice, a main entrée and 2 salad options. I tried the stuffed cabbage and mashed potatoes, both of which were very good. The food is all freshly made Polish fare. It is a nice change from mass produced Chinese or fast food joints in the area. The other entrée options were breaded and fried chicken cutlet or fish fillet, some kind of roasted spareribs, beef goulash, and pork stuffed with pickles(I think). They also had 2 kinds of pierogies ready made. All of the signs are written in Polish but the servers spoke English well. The deli itself is very clean and offers mostly imported Polish products. And the woman who served was quite nice, as was the woman at the register. This is a nice neighborhood place to get some decent Polish food.

Very good Polish deli overall: deli meats, hot food section, bread, canned good, prepared foods and beverages including beer. If you miss the taste of home this will satisfy almost all your needs. My favorites: tatar, smoked fish, Goralska kielbasa. Greta beer selection. The only complaint I’ve had here, though lately it has been better, sometimes the service can be very rude and unprofessional. I would not bring it up if were one or two isolated incidents. In fact my family and I decided to never return after a particularly unpleasant situation with one of the young ladies there. A year later we were in a pinch for some particular ingredient and ran out of options. We reluctantly stopped in again. The newer staff appears to be okay now. I wouldn’t call it outstanding service but they get the job done without calling people names. I’m a customer again but I will pay close attention to the folks behind that counter. It’ll take a while before I’m comfortable again.

Their lunch assortment is very good. Nice kotlety with good rice, and your choice of salad. They also have good amount of East European candy and snacks, the Krowka can be found here!

I’ve worked in the area for about 7 years and Krakus became my favorite local deli almost immediately. My former partner, an Uzbeki Russian immigrant took me here and introduced me to the wonderful assortment of Polish meats and sundry items. The fresh breads and rolls — delivered daily — are simply amazing as are the assorted hot meals served beginning around 11:30. Sandwiches here are fresh, tasty and most importantly, inexpensive. When I used to work in the field, I’d stop here on my way to the job-site to pick up a roll w/Cream Cheese, a Turkey Sandwich on a Roll, Coffee AND a newspaper for $ 5! And those are Boars head cold cuts! As for the other reviewer, I take exception with his statement regarding«displaying one ham and cutting another.» Every Deli displays a full Cold Cut while still cutting the open one! I’ve never been to a deli that opens a new Boars head Ham each time someone orders a pound. That along with his his odd comment about the owner’s «…ambiguous comments to female customers…»(whatever that statement means) leads me to believe the reviewer is a petty individual and possibly a competitor. I’ve never had a bad experience or bad meal from Krakus. My only advice would be to non-Poles who order sandwiches. Specify that you don’t want butter on your ham and Swiss. I suppose it was normal in the former Soviet Eastern Bloc, but here it’s kinda gross.

Very good assortment of European and polish food. Be aware when ordering cold cuts: What’s displayed on the shelve is not necessarily sold to you, you may get leftovers. When you think they are cutting an appetizing ham, they are actually slicing from an older piece. So be mindful of what your getting. The owner’s ambiguous comments to female customers about their groceries are inappropriate and embarrassing.
