I am a blueberry muffin addict. I frequently stalk the aisles of the closest deli when a craving hits, which can, pathetically, be three or four times a week. Next to a mealy green apple, the worst culinary disaster I can imagine is a disappointing muffin. Many a friend has seen the joy in my eyes when I procure a muffin, only to see it collapse into despair only moments later. «This muffin tastes like cornbread!» I cry, or «this muffin is deceiving me into believing it’s blueberry, but it only actually has blueberries on the top!» Then there are the strangely formed ones with a consistency like palm-sized bricks; the ones use blueberry topping instead of real blueberries, and the ones with that strange, salty aftertaste. Getting to the point: I know two sources for a reliably delicious fix; the deli that we order from in my office, and a health food deli in Chelsea. Recently, I discovered that the reason the muffins are so good in both locations is because they get their supply from the same place: they are Grandpa’s Original Muffins, made by Morrisons Bakery. I was going to sing the praises of the deli that provided me with my last Grandpa’s Original(Blueberry) Muffin, but I figured I would give credit where credit is due; to the good people at Morrisons. While I have not personally entered their facility, they make an amazing, consistent blueberry muffin that tastes natural, has an awesome texture, and is surprisingly low-fat, and for that I am eternally grateful.
