If this restaurant was in NYC, the prices would be twice as high and everyone would be okay with it. Excellent food, surprisingly affordable. As a frugal bastard, I love that. Five stars for you!

The guy served us water, but never came to take our order. Waited 10 – 15 min, and then walked out, not only because the service was pathetic, but because the space was unappealing, like a box with mirrors everywhere, and I could hear every conversation around me like being in a sound box. It was suffocating. It was the first time in my life I had to leave a restaurant, I have tolerated bad service before, but this was another level of «bad». The weird thing is that an Indian woman, hardly speaking English, leaped out of the kitchen and hunted us down. She came all the way to my car in the parking lot, where I was about to drive out. She was cajoling me to get back in, and being super apologetic. I kept repeating«Oh, it’s OK, maybe another time, thank you.» but she wasn’t understanding politeness. At one point she opened my door and I had to forcibly close it! When she realized I wasn’t going back in, her face changed from apologetic to mean. I’ll never go there again.

We found a cockroach crawling on the buffet trays and the waitress acted as if it was no big deal. In addition, we had a coupon from which they refused to honor for the buffet, even though this was not stated on the coupon nor did it state that it was valid only for dinner.

Amravathi catered my wedding. I have to say everything was perfect! The food was fresh and delicious! The owners were very nice and extremely helpful. I would highly recommend them for any catering event or just eating dinner at their restaurant. Their food never disappoints!

This place is delicious. There have been some enhancements to the lunch buffet that make it even better! I recommend you check it out.

Great veggie koorma and lamb curry BUT strangest dining experience I have ever had. Id skip the naan as it was very greasy and not fresh. Veggie samosas were decent but only potatoes. We were the only table in the place on a weekday evening but somehow were there for 2 hours — may have been because we sat for over 40 minutes waiting for dessert that was included in our meal but decided it wasn’t worth the awkwardness and asked for our check. Anyway, order food to go unless you want a bewildering dining experience and have patience.

New Years Eve dinner with reservation — Just a complete disaster. Although we had a group of only 9 people, the staff here showed absolutely no evidence that they had ever been open for business more than one day before our visit. The service was dreadfully slow and pathetic. We were constantly asking for water, rice, appetizers, entrees, etc. From beginning to end it was slow and painful. Party of 9, they put out 1 plate of papadum, didn’t come back to see that there wasn’t even enough for everyone at the table, then we wait and wait, we had to beg for the appetizers to come out, one slow plate at time. We were waiting so long, another disoriented wait person came and cleared the appetizer plates before we got the appetizers. Then the entrees came out, 2 at a time, 2 chicken, 2 lamb, 2 whatever, like it was a reenactment of a Noah’s Ark scene. Everyone was eating at different times. The food was generally good, but they were really cheap on the meats and heavy on the sauces. We arrived at the restaurant at 7:00 and finally left at 9:40. Before leaving, I made the mistake of going to the men’s room. It is there that I found the evidence that they have not been open for just one day, because there was probably 10 years worth of untouched filth. If you are looking for good Indian restaurants, there are plenty of(much) better places not too far away. Some great ones in Woodbridge & Edison. If you are looking for a cleaner men’s room, check out any Porta-Potty at the Monmouth County Fair, at 4:00PM, in August.

We often go out for Indian food — it is one of our favorite cuisines. We wanted to try Amravathi today, as they are local to us. By chance we arrived for dinner as soon as they opened tonight, but somehow our meal took two hours from start to finish. The service was slow and the waiter was very confused about what was included in our order. My wife and I both ordered the House Special combination dinner. Overall, we were not impressed by the food. We got a Rasam soup(too spicy to enjoy), and a Mulligatawny soup(bland, grainy, and watery). Our meals included naan(greasy and chewy), rice, vegetable koorma(lacked flavor), tandoori chicken(actually good), and lamb curry(tough). We had a coupon — buy one dinner, get one free(max $ 12 off). The two meals we ordered were each $ 16.95, so one would expect $ 12 off the bill. However, the waiter told us that they would only take $ 10 off because they reserve the right to apply the discount as they choose. I’ve never heard of that before! Needless to say, we aren’t planning to come back. There are plenty of excellent Indian places to eat in or near the Edison area which is only another 15 minutes away.

Disappointing because the $ 8.95 lunch buffet foods were warm but not hot, and there were no descriptions of the foods in the dimly lit dining room serving area. For The first half hour there was only one person working, and she spent so much time taking a telephone order that neither my party or the other party were able to get drinks until that was completed. It would have been charming if the little girl would have served water, but all she did was watch what may have been her mother on the phone, and run around a bit. Not charming. We couldn’t decide if the dessert was rice pudding or cottage cheese and it wasn’t labeled either. at least a Soda was included in the price of the lunch buffet. even off the phone the service was so nonexistent it was like we were on our own. Somehow this place is still in business for a long time ;the previous visit, years ago, it was much better.

Firstly I’ll state right upfront, this is my very first Indian food. Obviously this won’t be a detailed review on the refinement and authenticity of the cuisine. I had actually stopped at the Pine Valley Plaza for take out from Sahara 34, a neighboring restaurant I enjoy, but decided to give Amravathi a try. Rather happy that I did. The staff was quite friendly when I explained I was new to Indian food. The very nice lady who seated me, I believe her name was sharon, went over both the menu and the buffet, and made a few recommendations. I wound up ordering from the menu, and started with the Panir Pakora appetizer, and greatly enjoyed it. They were square cheese fritters, breaded and fried, and tasted great alone or with a condiment that I believe was some sort of pickled onions and garlic. Great stuff. The cheese reminded me almost of a buffalo mozzarella. For lunch I had the lamb tikka masala, with garlic naan bread. This again, was quite tasty if not exactly pretty to look at. The gravy/sauce(?) was just amazing, i could have eaten just a whole bowl of that with the naan bread alone. The lamb chunks, while not plentiful, were tender and yet had a nice bbq char under the sauce. It was quite rich, and filled me. I didn’t notice any glaring cleanliness issues that others have mentioned in their reviews. In fact my only complaint would be they had the front doors propped open which had let maybe a few flies in. It was a nice day, and I suppose that can happen anywhere. I’ll be keeping a viligant eye out on future trips. So, did I get lucky? I’m not sure. There were about 7 other couples in the restaurant for lunch, and everyone seemed to be enjoying their food, mostly from the buffet. It will probably take a few return trips to truly judge the consistency. But for today… I enjoyed their food.

Food and presentation was not good. Food is rather bland and on the soggy side(fritters and samosas were not crisp). Samosa dipping sauce tasted slightly off. Tandoori chicken was hit or miss, some was moist and some was dry. Butter chicken was just the tandoori chicken in sauce(97% sauce with barely any chicken– you could count all the pieces easily). Would be interested in seeing how the dinner menu differs but I will not be returning for lunch buffet(better off going to the Indian buffet in downtown Freehold).

Took my mom there last year for her birthday dinner. We were so turned off that I have not wanted Indian food at all from any place. That’s says a lot since I am Indian. Service was not great and servers were difficult to understand. Food tasted stale and the place was dirty. Left and never went back.

Ordered from this place many times, if you are ok with throwing a dice, this is the place for you. your food may be awesome or may be «the last Indian food you want to eat in your life». Service is ok as long as the owner is present.

Being that there aren’t many Indian restaurants in the Monmouth county area, I’d often travel to Amravathi for their lunch buffet on my days off from work. I would champion them only out of necessity. If I wanted Indian without traveling to the Edison or Jersey City area, I could always grab something decent from Amravathi. Unfortunately, the food was okay at best. The buffet was always old, bland, but it was still Indian cuisine. The final straw came recently when I went in with a coupon from that Amravathi uploaded. It said«$ 10 off when you spend $ 20. Restrictions: Dine In Only, Not for Saturday and Sunday» Okay. Seemed clear. Two of us got the buffet and sodas, which came to $ 22. However, the waiter refused to take my coupon, saying that it was not applicable for buffet even though the coupon did not say it. I asked to speak with a manager. He said he wasn’t in. I called later that night. I called the next day. I called the next. I emailed. I even somehow spoke with the manager’s wife but not the manager? It became a matter of principal rather than ten measly bucks after five days. Finally, the owner told me that he wouldn’t accept it for the buffet and to come back for dinner. Nice job making up rules on the spot Amravathi. From now on, I WILL bet traveling to Edison(along w/Rajpoot in Sayreville or Neelam in Middletown) rather than forcing down their congealed buffet again. Proceed with caution. There’s better Indian food in NJ, I assure you. Keep the faith Matawan locals.

Hi, We initially felt that this is a decent restaurant, but may be that was an odd day and probably most of the items were fresh that day. We are vegetarian and been to this place almost 5 – 6 times, but we were satisfied only once and that also because we complaint about last time food that it was stale. I cannot comment on Non Vegetarian food but veg. is surely not fresh. They serve you stale food more often, doesn’t matter you go for buffet or order. I would not recommend this restaurant. Thanks

A solid choice for Indian cuisine. With not many options in the area this is definitely the place to go. My wife and I came in for an early dinner on a Saturday and were very happy with the whole experience. It’s a bit more traditional of an Indian dining experience in the fact that there are very few frills to both the menu and the place itself. Yes the restaurant has a dated décor, but it’s not dirty, just old. The menu encompasses both Northern and Southern options to choose from. We started off with an order of meat samosas, which were flavorful and not greasy. We also ordered a garlic naan, which was decent but way too much garlic. For our meals we went with the Lamb Vindaloo(which lacked any spiciness to it) and Chicken Tikka Masala which was very flavorful. Overall, it was a good place and somewhere we’ll be back to. And as a bonus its BYOB.
