Soup dumplings weren’t hot, not nearly as flavorful as you can find in Philly or NY. The scallion pancakes were super doughy, and the soup was tasteless. We won’t be returning.

Authentic and fresh best ever I could sleep and eat there

Love this place. New go to brunch spot aka dim sum. They have 2 menus, order off the one that has breakfast options. It’s more authentic And you won’t find sesame chicken or general tso’s on there thank god… Beef sandwiches were tasty, love the fresh noodles in all the soups, and any of the dumplings/​buns are great. If it’s your first time just grab a menu and a pen an find a table. Circle What you want and return it to the front. Enjoy!
Ps. I live 35 min away so I usually order something to go as well for later!

Great place to eat quick. Spicy beef noodle soup and vegetable noodle soup are amazing. Also don’t skip the pork dumplings buns! Always great food for a great price. Service is spot on and waitresses are friendly. Everything is made from scratch as you can watch the chefs in the back make everything. My favorite place in town!

Great little hole in the wall! BYOB with a liquor store next door. Get the soup dumplings and order anything off the marker board! There was black pepper lamb that was wonderful & the Singapore noodles are a great choice. «Trust the chef specials».

A hole in the wall place that will delight you and satisfy your taste bud! Food is delicious, service is fast but courteous, not to mention cheap! Ordered soup dumpling, Dry bean curd & pork, scallion pan cake and their special on the white board, tomato beef.

If you want some truly authentic Chinese food, this is a can’t miss place. Have eaten here plenty of times, and it’s always been solid. It’s tucked away in a small strip mall. The service is no frills, if you can call it that. You get up and basically serve yourself. You even need to bring the waitress your order. If you can handle that, then I HIGHLY suggest you trying this place. Restaurant is small with maybe 8 – 10 tables, so if you go on a Friday night, expect a wait.

Love this place! The soups are amazing and the portions are huge! Their pork buns are also really really yummy. Its always packed and impossible to get in because there’s a line of people waiting for a table so we pretty much just get take out.

The food here is pretty good but not amazing. Their noodles in a minced pork sauce was good (the lady told me it was called ja jang mien). The pork chop rice was good except for that the veggies were a bit too salty for my liking. The soup dumplings had a nice texture but the soup inside was lacking some flavor. The service wasn’t the greatest because they just bounce your plate of food and walk away and never come back to check on us. Also, all beverages are self serve. Overall the food is worth a try and I might come back occasionally.

I ate here for the first time today with a friend. This restaurant is located in a strip mall. You seat yourself upon entering and when someone gets a chance they’ll bring you a menu and you just flag them down when you’re ready to order. It’s relatively small with about 10 tables and looks pretty much like a typical chinese takeout place. It appeared clean and bright. You also help yourself to whatever you want to drink. There is water, hot black tea and cans of soda. The service isn’t what I’m used to but the food came out pretty quick however, my appetizer actaully came out last. The restaurant was moderately busy (it was a Monday night, Labor Day).
I went specifically for the Xiao long bao (aka soup dumplings), I believe they are called «steamed pork buns» on the menu. They where delicious and I highly seggest you try them. As far as I know, not many places around offer them, this is why I got 2 orders and traveled the 40 minutes! We also had the spring rolls, three meat pot stickers and a fried chicken special. Everything was good but the fried items where a little on the greasy side for me.
It appeared to be BYOB (I saw a table with a 6 pack of Heineken) although I wasn’t able to find that information anywhere prior to going or while I was there. Even though Unilocal has a link to their website, there is currently no menu available to view. The restaurant’s sign outside reads «Shanghai bun & sushi» but there is no sushi on the menu nor did I see any other diners enjoying any sushi. I am unsure if it is offered. I also don’t know if they offer dessert.
The prices where very fair. My guest and I got a lot of food but where able to finish it all. Check was under $ 30.
I don’t eat much Chinese food and when I do, it’s usually take out so I don’t have many «dine-​in» experiences to compare it to. It was a little different but pretty good. I look forward to coming back.

Wow. A friend recommended this place for a cool, quick bite when I was in the mood for dumpling and it definitely hit the spot. Its very casual, and you just check off the items you would like on the menu. The staff is super relaxed and helpful.
Get the buns! Soup inside a dumpling. Mind blown.
Also, highly recommend the Sha Cha Beef noodles and the spicy pork dumplings!!!
The beef sandwiches are a little dry, but still fun to try if you never have.
The soups looked great and we got a spicy shredded beef soup to go and it was on point!
Recommend eating it all in house while its hot and fresh tho.
The only down fall was how quick everything came out, we ordered 6 dishes and they were all out on the table within 15 minutes of ordering, makes it the perfect spot to go if you’re hungry and don’t want to wait.
The spicy chili oil on the table is unbelievable too, if they bottles it I would be them by the gallon.
Not to mention how affordable it is, all dishes are between $ 5-​$ 12 and all family style portions.
Overall a real gem in Jersey!

This is one of my favorite places. Very informal. You have to seat yourself and get your own beverage. You should pick up a menu and pencil before you seat yourself. I say that because the there are only 9 tables and sometimes you might have to wait or share a table if you wait to be seated.
I have always had a good meal here. The menu is pretty large and I have tried several dishes. My go to lunches are the Spicy Beef Noodle Soup or the Spicy Seafood Egg Noodle Soup. The noodles are homemade on site. Very good.

Snow day was xraving a big bowl of soup. No longer eating meat i sometimes find it difficult to satisfy my ceavings. Ordered spicy egg and seafood soup. Was good but not as amazing as their spicy beef noodle soup. The broth was thickened with corn starch. Would have prefered a broth as opposed to the thick consistency of the soup. The waitress advised us they were closing in 20 minutes and rushed us along. Im going to excuse all their flaws because they were in a hurry to close. Yes they are typicaly umm less than 100% freindly. The scalion pancake, which is usually amazing was greasy today, so much so we didnt finish it.
Food was ok this time around. Wont stop coming but will def try to come in way before closing time. (Though they typicaly close at 10 today we walked in at 7 and were told 20 mins they were closing.)

Dropped by for lunch after a morning spent at the Englishtown flea market. I’ve only tried three dishes here: the xiao long bao (aka soup dumplings), beef sautéed with noodles in sha cha sauce and the shrimp shao mai. The shao mai was just okay; I could do without it. The soup dumplings were large and good. I really enjoyed the noodles and beef with the sha cha sauce… it was spicy and deliciously addicting that makes you keep coming back for more.
The restaurant is small and looks like a typical Chinese take-​out but with authentic dishes. If this place was closer to me, I’d definitely do take-​out from here instead of the local Americanized Chinese take-​out.

Growing up in a Chinese family and eating many Shanghai style food along the way (despite being raised Cantonese/​HK), I can say without a doubt that this is one of my favorite places. It’s close to home and every time I return I want to come back. Sure many of you may come for the great soup dumplings — it’s not my favorite. I always go back for the beef shin sandwiches (always fresh), the amazing su bing, spicy pork belly, and the pan fried dumplings!
In terms of service, it’s part self-​serve (hot tea/​water on your own) and it’s not a huge restaurant; a lot of people take out. It gets really cold in the winter with the doors opening and closing but never quite cool enough in the summer. Nevertheless, I have always returned and will continue to do so!

Don’t just pass by this low key chinese spot or you’ll be missing out on some solid affordable eats.
Have a seat, take a paper menu and mark off what you want to try. Be aware the portions are definitely shareable! Food is great and easily a top choice chinese place in my book. Come with a big group too so you can try a lot family style!

Listen forget service. I got takeout. Ordered online no issues.
I’m pretty sure this was the best Chinese food I have ever had. GET THE PORK BUNS.
there’s no ambiance, just get takeout

Great authentic Chinese food, huge portions, very reasonable prices, and a comfy, clean atmosphere. The waiter was really friendly. I absolutely love the fact that they offer self service hot water and green tea on the house. As a non-​Chinese person, I like that their menu has English translations.
Soup dumplings were not as soupy as those you’ll get in NYC but they were still admirable and captured that delish flavor without being too salty. The stir fried shrimp dumplings were huge, freshly made, and super stuffed with veggies and vermicelli but not as much shrimp. They were blandish but still great after adding soy and sriracha sauces.
The fried fish filet in spicy bean sauce was super good. Loaded with chopped garlic and a bit of ginger, it avoided being too salty or spicy, but was flavorful enough on its own to need any condiment additions.
My friend and I were left undisturbed after our meal for a long chat over hot tea. It was a great time and I’m making sure i return to try other items soon. There’s no dessert on the menu but a trip down the road to Ralph’s Italian ices could easily fix any sugar craving.
