THE place to go in Mcgregor! Great food, reasonable prices and good service! Pancakes were big and fluffy with warm syrup, breakfast taco bulging with eggs, bacon, hash browns & cheese. Since we’re camping at Mother Neff State Park, we’ll be back for dinner!

Great hamburger and cheeseburger on a jalapeño bun! Had a wonderful looking buffet, loaded with home-cooked food and the best selection of veggies I have ever seen. Finished off the meal with a slice of coconut cream pie. It was to die for. They were rated #3 in Texas Highway Magazine for their pies and I would beg to say it should be #1. Delicious and a crowded place. Great service too.

My wife and I have been eating here off and on for the past fifteen years. Her mother lives in Dallas, we always eat here on our way home. My review is going to be more for the wait staff than the incredible food. The waitresses that work there are the sweetest you will ever meet, and everyone that works there is always friendly. If they were ever having a bad day when we were there, you would never know. We always enjoy eating there. Sometimes we go out of the way to go there just to eat a homemade meal.

Drove up from Belton to check it out. Has the Ribeye and it was the most tender steak I have eaten around here. The menu is full of good items and there were many customers there eating. The wife had the soup and half club and she loved both! The total bill cost was $ 21.95 very reasonable and I will be putting that place on my fav list to visit!

We were in town from Dallas to shop at the antique shops just down the street. The food and service was wonderful. I highly recommend stopping by if you get the chance.

The BBQ baked potato is really good, the chopped beef is great and alot of it, the potatoes are fresh not all cooked to death like they’ve been sitting around all day. The BBQ chicken salad is hugh & really good, and so are their pies, Great little place.

The buffet was surprisingly nice. Overall the restaurant is a little small townish, but it will fill you up at a reasonable price.

Roommate and I had heard how good the food here is, so we went on a Friday. No complaints from either of us– we were stuffed. We enjoyed the chicken fried steak, fried fish, ribs, and lots of sides(my favorite were Lima beans). I don’t think there was a single item that wasn’t good. This place is definitely on our list to visit again!

Wife and I were driving back from a visit to Waco. We are out-of-towners scouting out areas around Austin. While not near Austin(sorta) we followed through with our plan to check out Waco. Our drive back brought us to Coffee Shop Café for a quick lunch. This place is cool. Staff is very friendly(like most people I’ve met in these parts). Food is not complicated and not pretentious. Just good ‘ol comfort foods. It also happens to have a world-well– known regular that has a place down the street. His presence is posted on the entrance walls and on the coffee cups(of which, I bought one). Religious talk radio in the background — on this day, it was a fund-raising/fund-match radio show. Not my normal listen on a afternoon drive but if this is representative of the area, then I like it. The food: Baked Potatoe with chicken and broccoli was ok. a tad dry and could have used some butter, but I didn’t ask. Patty Melt with fries and she ate the whole thing, a good sign. On this day, they were preparing for the weekly Thursday buffet that looked pretty yummy and smelled great. When in the area again, I think I’ll stop back in.

2 Words: Home Cooking! In Waco visiting family and they’ve been trying to get us for years! The place was warm and welcoming. The food was excellent. I had the Citrano platter. I asked nicely and they swapped out the regular sausage for chorizo(my favorite). Glad we made the visit. You won’t be disappointed.

This is a great restaurant, small town feel, everybody knows everybody. The food is delicious, I eat there all the time. We’ll worth the drive and the prices aren’t bad at all. The owner of the restaurant is very personable, the wait staff is very friendly, and the restroom is clean. I always say a clean restroom is a clean kitchen.

We do not get to Central Texas often, but when we do, we always eat at The Coffee Shop. We enjoy the homey atmosphere. Also, you know you have found a gem when you see the locals dining in a restaurant. There are always locals enjoying their dinners. We have ordered off the menu and eaten from the buffet. We have picky eaters in our family, and everyone enjoys what they eat. We have also eaten everything from breakfast to dinner items. We have enjoyed it all. The menu definitely has something for everyone. The buffet is extremely good and always hot and fresh. The other thing you have to order is one of the fabulous desserts. You will not get a better piece of pie anywhere. The meringue is a mile high and very good! The Coffee Shop reminds you of a great Sunday afternoon dinner.

Pros: On a Long trip, our first time here. I Chose this place from other reviews. A good local décor. Food was good and had a fresh home cooked way about it. Did not remind us of a typical place like a chain. Many local people there. Many were older folks. That said the older folks go where the food is usually good and less expensive. I will agree to that. The Bush memorabilia was not as plentiful as I imagined. I had chocolate cream pie for desert, good. My son had ice cream. Soft serve. That takes down the home style a notch. Our main course was the buffet. I had chicken fried steak, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, fried okra and mac n cheese. All good. My wife and son had the baked fish. A little spicy but good. The fresh okra was the best according to my wife. Again, the food was good, our waitress good and friendly. Cons: The place needs a good cleaning on and around the buffet. The rest rooms do not look regularly cleaned even though it has a inspection record on the door, I don’t think it means much. They just need to be clean. The staff we encountered was nice but the owner was not really cordial and rushing me instead of say asking me if I wanted something from his souvenir area. Just how are you paying for this. Was his exact words. I also got a $ 1 off coupon from Unilocal as a thanks for the check in there. I mentioned it to him, he was a little set out by it. Now I was there not in the time it was valid for. No problem that he did not give it to me but he did make a comment about not really knowing about it and needed to contact Unilocal about it. The way he said it was that he did not approve. It deserves more stars, but the cleanliness issues and the owner took stars away.

Returned recently for the first time in a few years. From what I could see, the food looked good on the buffet, but then I made the mistake of looking down at the floor. It was so ingrained with stains that I had to walk out without eating. I’ve enjoyed Coffee Shop a number of times over the years and would like to do so again, but it would be much easier to do so if the floor/carpet was clean. I realize this may not say anything regarding the quality of the food, but for me it’s difficult to separate the cleanliness, or lack thereof, with the overall eating out experience.

Went 20 minutes out of our way to eat here… Soooo glad we did. Décor simple, very country… Political Bush shrine covering most of the walls, chicken wire on the ceiling, wobbly table, line out the door. That being said our food was FABULOUS! I had chicken fried steak which I usually never order out cuz mine is the bomb… It was great! My friend had the café special breakfast a lil of everything it too was off the charts delicious! Great food, great coffee, great service! Well worth the drive in from Waco! Very reasonable prices. Yum!

I was seriously stuffed after leaving Coffee Shop Café, and I didn’t even eat from the lunch buffet! I was a little disappointed that the weekend breakfast buffet only goes to 10:30AM, since I enjoy sleeping in on weekends. But the food was so good, I’m willing to wake up a little early to catch that $ 6.99 breakfast buffet! I ordered the traditional breakfast plate that includes 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, and 2 pieces of either sausage/bacon/ham(I got the sausage). Couldn’t even finish the last of the pancakes, but boy did I try!

Love the Buffalo Chicken sandwich… All businesses have their ups and downs but the Coffee Shop is always consistent. Would recommend it to anyone in the area! Dining room seems a little congested with all the Presidential items and boutique type stuff they sell in there, but other than that the place is always clean.

Giving this restaurant 4 stars more for the totally unique ambiance than the food. The Coffee Shop Café is a 100% George Bush(both Senior and W) themed restaurant. An experience I’m not sure you could get anywhere else in the country. All sorts of George Bush memorabilia(including a life size George W cutout) both decorating the restaurant and for sale at the restaurant. Nothing to get politically worked up about, it’s really more of a George Bush shrine than a political statement. The banquet room also seems to double as something of a gathering place for local groups like the Lions Club to meet up. As for the food, it’s homestyle Southern buffet food, as well as a pretty extensive menu. If you can think of it(it being something made of meat, probably deep fried, and covered in butter) they probably have it. If you don’t care about your health, I totally recommend the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, and white gravy. Nothing could be more American. All you can eat at about ~$ 10 a person. For the health conscious(i.e. anyone who want to make it to 25 without a heart attack), go for the strawberry fields chicken salad. Heaps of grilled chicken, on top of field greens, strawberries, and some kind of unidentifiable nut served with a heavy balsamic vinaigrette. $ 12 dollars and probably the healthiest /tastiest option in town. Pro Tip: Save room for dessert. No matter what you order a free small bowl of dessert is coming your way at the end of the meal.
