So I have been going to Great American Restaurants since I was like 5 at Mikes American Grill, Coastal, Arties, Silverado, Jacksons, I mean I have literally been to them all. I always love it. Lobster roll, house salad, shrimp roll, all of the soups, and flourless chocolate waffle, omg everything is so good. If you haven’t been go. Sometimes their service is a bit weird in Tyson’s because it gets so busy but the food is worth it. Everyone must try a flourless chocolate waffle at least once for sure!

great american restaurants are my favorite in VA. Being a pescatarian they had a lot of meatless options. the veggie burger, salmon, and lobster bisque soup are my favorites. the service is always outstanding, i never had to give the server more than one reminder of anything i need. LOVE this place

We had a team dinner at Coastal Flats during our last night stay in VA, and definitely a great choice. Not only was the service amazing, but the food was delicious! We didn’t have great experiences the whole week at other restaurants, claiming they had a lack of ingredients and supplies due to the blizzard, but not an issue with Coastal Flats. Our server started us off with some wine and cocktails, along with the crab corn chowder soup and a bread basket with rolls that had a sweet taste to them. I ordered the salmon filet, as I did not have a good one the night prior at a different venue and wanted a well cooked salmon meal. The fish here was cooked to perfection, soft enough to melt in your mouth. It was also well seasoned and very moist. It came with a side of mashed potatoes, and I ordered a plate of asparagus on the side as I enjoy some veggies to go with my fish. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly, making the dining experience a great one. Thank you and can’t wait to return! Best, Charlie

UPDATE– I came back to this abode. And I think the last time I came was just a bad day. This time it had the hickory grilled chicken thing with angel hair, and it tasted great! Service was still great and the calamari was still sweet like the service. However, my experience was much better. ACTUAL REVIEW-About 5 years ago, I would’ve gave this restaurant a 5⁄5. Everything that I ordered tasted fucking delicious. The calamari was not too sweet, but not too spicy. The ribs were tangy and sweet, charged on the outside, Which tasted quite good. Also, inside those ribs were soft and delicious meat. The service was also outstanding. The service alone I would give a 8⁄5. Back then, they rarely messed up. But when they did, they gave you a fucking free dessert, free 15 dollar gift card, and free what ever they messed up on. However, these days it’s quite subdued. The service is still outstanding, I give it a 5⁄5. It wasn’t as good as before however. There still kind and quick, however, they don’t give a fuck about when they mess up anymore. Now I don’t mind this, and I’m probably being selfish. But what surprised me was just the change of attitude. The food taste… A bit worse. The calamari was barely any spicy in it and just flat out candy. The ribs took a hit in the face with a bus. The tanginess is still there, just over shadowed by the sweet mess, and the char makes me worried about cancer. However, the one thing hasn’t changed. There fries are still delicious. But I’m worried that it will change to, after they switch to Chinese potato instead of American ones. All jokes aside, I give the food a disappointing 2⁄5. Honestly, I miss the old coastal. It was a place of happiness and hope. It was a place where I went with my 0 friends to socialize. I just miss it. I wish you people at shitty American restaurants company can hear my cry, bring back coastal flats!

I have been on a health run for the last 3 months and have cut out alcohol completely in preparation for 2 race competitions in the next 6 months. Anyhow, the last time I went here, I went with a friend and the service was just bad. .. we usually sit at the bar.. . maybe it’s because I’m not ordering any alcohol and such, but we were waiting to be served and no one took our orders for a good 7 minutes or so.

Coastal Flats was top-notch. We’re big fans of Sweetwater Tavern and happened to be in Tysons for dinner, so we stopped at Coastal Flats for dinner. Prompt and professional service, delicious food, nice atmosphere. I always ask our servers what their favorite thing on the menu is. I’m surprised how many times I get blank stares in response like the server doesn’t eat the food there or know what’s good from first hand experience. Not here. Our waiter instantly said his«hands-down» favorite was the pecan-crusted trout and began an elaborate description of the variety of ingredients and the«flavor explosion» in his mouth. I took his advice and gave it a try, and I wasn’t disappointed. It was excellent. They have the same awesome rolls and bread here that they serve at Sweetwater. The Coastal Flats lager on draft was also very good. My kids loved the salmon and the kids burger and fries. My only complaint was the noise level. It was VERY loud and hard to hear the waiter or each other across the table. Aside from that, we had a wonderful dinner at Coastal Flats and would happily go back again.

The service is always good here. My go to for a long time has been the shrimp roll. Occasionally, I have found 1 – 2 shrimps that haven’t been properly cleaned and deveined. I once tried the special if the day salmon and found it to be too salty. I love the complimentary ozzie rolls, you can find them at Mike’s American Grill and SweetWater Tavern everyday and Carlyle serves them during brunch. For desserts, I love the bread pudding and the apple pie.

Date: 2014-04-16 Bread is so good. Our server Anthony had no problem giving us refills. By the time your entrée comes out, you end up taking a few nibbles and box it to-go. Coastal Flats is always a good option when eating at Tyson Corner.

Absolutely fantastic. The fried bread they serve is like crack. Seriously. Coastal Shrimp Roll was amazing. Tons of perfectly-cooked salty and peppery shrimp. I was a little hesitant because I couldn’t really imagine a fried shrimp sandwich but it works. Husband got the crab cake sandwich and really enjoyed it as well. I don’t usually order desserts, but the flourless chocolate waffle caught my attention. It was completely gooey, super-chocolatey and something I would totally order again. We will be back.

The interior of this place is so cozy! came here for lunch on a weekday and it was packed… must be a good sign! I ordered the filet mignon with crab cake and french fries, the combo is not on the menu(only the steak), you would need to ask for it. The filet was a little well done but it was still tender, crab cake didn’t have that crispy crunch on the outer shell but was still delish. Fries were crispy. We also ordered the fried calamari and blue crab shrimp fritters for our appetizer, my friend ordered the filet mignon tips. The calamari was somewhat crunchy, it didn’t have that salt and lemony taste to it, more like the asian sweet and sour kinda taste. Very different but I would have preferred the lemon/pepper taste. The fritters were decent, I don’t know what everyone is raving about but, they were ok… I could taste more of the crab than shrimp. The outter shell had a crispy bite to it. The sauce that came with it tasted like lobster bisque or something along that line, i didn’t care for it. I had a little piece of my friend’s pasta and that was awesome, very creamy with a hint of lemon to it. Over all i would definitely come back, price is little high but the quality and service is there.

Coastal flats has got to be one of my favorite places to dine in the McLean area. It’s inside Tysons corner mall just off I495-North. They’ve got great wine and cocktails selections as well as tremendous appetizers. I usually go for their shrimp fritters because of the corn salsa and lobster bisque base. Overall, I’ll continiously come back here because of the service and food!

I have so many favorites here. This is my favorite restaurant ever. From pecan crusted trout to lobster rolls, crab cakes, shrimp and grits, crab and filet mignon. This place never fails. They have the best appetizers. Deviled eggs, calamari, lobster bisque, corn and clam chowder and I can eat their bread and Ozzie rolls all day every day. I always try to come here when I’m in town. I wish they had one of these on the west coast. The dessert is awesome also. I’ve only had the bread pudding and chocolate waffles but everything I’ve had here was good. Even the tuna salad. Best place ever.

I’ve been here 2 – 3 times, and my meal has either been good, or great. My husband and I usually start with the deviled eggs and candied bacon. It’s the best thing on the menu, ever. Sometimes they’ll have it at their other restaurants(it’s part of a chain), but they almost always have it on the menu at Coastal Flats. We had a great server who accommodating our being annoying and asking for separate checks. I ordered the pecan crusted trout, which I’d had in the past but forgotten how it tasted. It’s a good trout, and the bites of pecan make the meal come together. I do like couscous, but I think I wish the couscous was a little less fruity. Maybe it’s just me, but a non-citrus fruit just doesn’t always mix with fish.

I thought this place was solid. The service was excellent. I wanted to pay the bill before it got to my cousins, who I went to dinner with. We had the shrimp fritters, and that was next level. The lobster bisque was solid but nothing incredible, and my entrée, the crab cake with filet mignon was a bit disappointing. The steak wasn’t very juicy and the crab cake, while good was not able to lift up the whole entrée. Overall, a good experience though. I’d love to go back for just the fritters. We also went there with a hyperactive child and they handled that situation very well.

Another Great American Restaurant letdown. Although I called 45 mins ahead for reservation, we waited almost an hr after checking in for our table — there was some misunderstanding on who was checked in/who was waiting — different hostesses gave us different answers. «10−15 min wait» to «5 more mins» to «still cleaning your table» to «accidentally giving away our table» — all happened while we sat literally right next to them. Although the hostess did eventually apologize while seating us, the initial incident already soured the entire dining experience. And it only got worse… We might as well had continued to wait by the door — We literally sat for almost 15 mins before we had a chance to locate our waitress to submit our orders. My stomach was cramming then because of how hungry I was. Even the complimentary bread took ages to be served. We were told and ensured that the bread was being«fried» and will be coming right up. Instead I saw baskets after baskets being brought out to nearby tables. Breadless and«Hangry», I was so ready to walk out. Then finally came our appetizer, fried calamari — I much prefer Carlyle’s version — there was an overwhelming amount of sweet and sour sauce coating the fried calamari — so much that it lost all of its crispiness. Onto our main course: Fried shrimp roll, bacon cheeseburger with sweet potato fries– both were your standards — no complaints, nothing to write home about. Chicken, mango, spiced pecan salad — a refreshing, tasty combo — my mother liked it so much that she wishes to replicate it at home. Perfectly dressed, complementary flavors + textures — the best dish of the night. Fried fish fingers — again your standard — however the sides, fries(cold and soggy) and coleslaw(drenched in mayo) were inedible. Lobster roll with mashed cauliflowers and Mediterranean orzo salad — The roll had zero flavor. In addition, the bun was cold, the lobster meat was drenched in mayo. After two bites, I just couldn’t continue — It was the worst lobster roll I’d had in any restaurants. As I turned to the two sides to fill my grumbling stomach, again it met nothing but disappointment — while the mashed cauliflower was overly salty, the orzo salad had no flavor — was I suppose to mix the two and eat together? Service — the bread didn’t come until half way through our dinner and our waitress continued to MIA for most of our time there. Towards the end when our waitress came to clear our table and noticed that I didn’t touch most of my food, I was surprised that she didn’t inquire and only offered more water. Overall — As one of the worst dining experiences in the DMV along with my previous experience at Carlyle, Great American Restaurants, you’re out.

Our server was super friendly and fast at service. He brought out fresh utensils after our appetizers. Also he brought second vouch of bread without a hint of disagreement. The Ozzie rolls were fresh out of kitchen and they were delicious! The raisin bread was good too. For appetizer, we ordered sweet & sour fried calamari and crab & corn chowder. They were both so good! The chowder was a little salty though. For our main, we got wood grilled chicken, simply grilled chicken, shrimp roll sandwich, and filet 5oz & baked crab cake. My meal which was simply grilled chicken was on point! It came with caucus, corn, avocado, and other veggies. YUMM! The hickory wood grilled chicken had that grill smell and it was delicious. My brother really loved the meat and crab plate. Overall I enjoyed the food, service, and interior! Recommend!

First off, I would like to take a moment and thank Juan and the team for a lovely dine in experience. As soon as we walked into Coastals we were greeted by smiling faces! Juan(the manager) approached us and apologized for our previous experience and really wow’d us this time around. We were seated to a comfortable table with plates and silverware ready to go :) Our waiter who was AMAZING and funny instantly greeted us with the daily special and took a few minutes to suggest a couple new items that we haven’t tried before. I had to give the calamari another try after the previous experience and it was PERFECT! Just the way that Coastals Calamari should be and the reason why I love to dine in at this place(No Joke, I wanted to lick my plate it was THAT good). We were suggested to also try out the Kale Cesar salad, which I have never tried, and honestly I don’t think I ever would have but NOW I’m in love and will probably order it often :) nom nom nom. My friend ordered their amazing huge steak which I believe he said was 14 oz…(WHOA baby get in my belly! Of course I had to steal a bite or two) I got an order of their beef ribs and requested a side of mushrooms and mashed cauliflower. The ONLY reason i’m giving them 4 stars instead of 5 this time is because my ribs came out extra cooked(very chard on the back side) and my sides were wrong :(It’s fine though, they made me a new plate of ribs which were PERFECT and they switched out my sides to the correct order. For dessert we got some hot tea :) I was stuffed and could barely walk after that meal. I have to say though, I’m very impressed by the level of service we received and I expect every visit to Coastal Flats to be the same. Our plates and silverware were constantly switched out and the waiter kept checking up on us to be sure that everything was okay. His fun and exciting personality not only brought a smile to our face but he really made it the BEST dinner/experience I’ve ever had. I will be going back and hope the same waiter is on staff every time so I can request him. I wish I remembered his name :(but I’m sure it’s on my receipt somewhere.

I’ve been in Tysons many times but never thought to dine at Coastal Flats. I’m giving this place 2 out of 5 stars because there was nothing outstanding about the restaurant. The servers were GREAT. They greeted me and my partner in crime within the first 30 seconds of us arriving. There was no wait which was good because I was starving. However, the rolls were probably the best thing on the menu outside of the 2 mojitos I ordered. Mango mojito and pineapple mojito were delicious. The crab cakes were loose, the corn was ok. The presentation was there but the taste of everything did nothing for my palate. Service rating 5 stars Food rating 2 stars Won’t be returning, unless its for a drink.

One of my favorite places to eat when in Tyson’s Corner Center. It’s almost always packed in here. Similar to their other locations. The hosts are always friendly and patient. I’ve been here a number of times in the past and employees have always been friendly and accommodating. Food is on point. Their complimentary bread basket is the awesome. So fresh and addicting. Everything is made with quality ingredients. Portions are generous. I love the ambiance of this place. Very laid back and beach-y. End with the Warm Flourless Chocolate Waffle and leave happy!

Oysters! Oysters! Oysters! That’s right seafood foodies, all the oysters you can eat to celebrate this Costal Flats’ 10 year Anniversary. I happened on this spectacular event by accident, but oh what a happy accident. This event was just another example of why I love this chain. I can honestly say that I have never had a bad time at one of their stores. After the oysters, we rounded out this yumfest with an order of succulent calamari and a hearty bowl of corn crab chowder. The perfect end to this oyster fest.
