Have eaten at a lot of BBQ places throughout the US. This little place is in a little strip place. It doesn’t seat very many people. The food was pretty good. The cole slaw seemed like out a bag but OK. The beans were OK. The brisket and pulled pork were also OK. It was the hot links and Woodies Bold sauce that made everything. The sauce helped the brisket and pork. Overall, for McPherson, it’s a real good place to eat. I will definitely go back next time in town.

Although I live in McPherson, I put off trying Woodies until tonight because I am one of those annoying people who grew up in KC and am almost always disappointed by BBQ anywhere else. NOTTHISTIME! These ribs are LEGIT! They are not dry and not fatty, they are just perfection. The brisket and chicken are also good, but ribs will be my go to here. I also tried a hot link slice and it was OK. In all fairness, the only time I have ever really enjoyed hot links was at City Market BBQ in Luling, TX. I took a chance on the baked potato salad and it was really good. I like my coleslaw with BBQ to have a little more vinegar bite, but it was still tasty. I tried the Woody’s sauce and it was really good. They several other sauces that you can use, if you prefer. KC Masterpiece is a thick sweet sauce, Cattleman’s is a NCBBQ sauce(Ugh, NC folks do not know good BBQ), Sweet Baby Ray’s is kind of a standard sauce-not too unique. i don’t usually care much about Texas Toast, but theirs was quite delicious, not sure what their secret is on that. it wasn’t too crowded with people eating in on a Saturday night, but there were lots of people picking up carryout orders. Woodies is very convenient to the interstate and chain hotels.

This place was a great find as we were traveling on the interstate. The atmosphere is very casual with plastic red checked table clothes and the dining area rather small. You order at the counter and the food was delivered quickly. My husband had the smoked hot dog on toasted bread covered in chili and cheese. He enjoyed it with a sweet mustard BBQ sauce he selected from several available and said the dog had a kick to its flavor. I had the brisket sandwich. It was loaded with shredded chopped beef and I tried two different BBQ sauces. Yummy! We also ordered a side of baked beans to share. They contained shredded meat and finely diced pepper so also had a kick. All in all, this was a very satisfying noon lunch and much better than quick food!

Wandered into Woody’s on a cross-county trip. Unilocaled up something to eat and saw Woody’s. Being big fans of smoke and flame, we cruised in to see what’s what. We split a side of ribs and some of the potato salad. The ribs were blissfully yum. Nice smoke, pulled away from the bone well, still juicy. You can always tell when ribs are not right if they arrived slathered in sauce to hide bad pig. These are dry-rubbed, with several sauces to use, if you wish. No sauce needed. If I had a pig fest at my house and these came off my smoker, I’d be darned happy. The potato salad was a bit of a surprize, because it’s served hot and kind of squishy. But very tasty and went well with the awesome ribs. Woody’s is really a great find, killer smoke, hole in the wall shop, nice guy slinging ribs.

We’re in town for work, and decided to check this place out after seeing other good reviews here on Unilocal. This place did not disappoint in the least! We ordered take out and I had the one meat dinner with two sides. I opted for chicken with spicy baked beans and baked potato salad. The chicken was served diced and was seasoned perfectly. The spicy baked beans were on point. I from the south and love spicy and these were the perfect amount of spice! You can tell they had been cooked low and slow… they weren’t runny or too mushy. They also cook in some of the brisket with the beans. And that baked potato salad was amazing. It’s like the perfectly built baked potato with all the fixins’ without any of the work of assembly… genius! My boyfriend had the pulled pork and the chicken too, along with the same sides. He was blown away with the entire meal, too. They provide a variety of different bbq sauces. We tried the Woodies Bold and their Spicy BBQ, both were fantastic. If only this place had a bar inside! They don’t serve beer yet, but I saw a sign that said cold beer was coming. Definitely check out this place if your in town!

Super nice ribs with good smoke and seasoning. They are served dry, which is perfect for me. I like to do my own saucing… if needed. True pork fans will require little-to-no sauce here… the ribs are that good. I had the spicy baked beans, which were OK, and the creamy cole slaw, which was very good. Service was central-Kansas sweet and friendly.

I had the Yankee stacker with pulled pork, husband had the farmer, kids had a grilled cheese and a turkey sandwich, brother had the southwest. Everyone loved what they ordered, the meat was especially great. Cole slaw was standard which made me happy, kids had corn on the cob and baked beans were really good. Friendly staff, food came out quick and we showed up an hour before closing. Will definitely be back next time we’re through McPherson!

Really good! 3 meat with two sides had me stuffing my face! I wish they would add another location in Hillsboro so us students could have a decent meal once in a blue moon without traveling far. Definitely recommend this place. Very helpful staff too.

As we drove home from Great Bend we checked Unilocal for a locally owned place for lunch. Based on reviews, we decided to give Woodies a chance — great decision! Plain Jane atmosphere but who cares when the food is so good? The pulled pork is pure, unadulterated smoked meat with amazing flavor! The sweet baked beans are second only to those we had on Dauphin Island, Alabama. The owner/operators are a nice young couple and she’s from… you guessed it… Alabama. Do us a favor — eat at Woodies Smokehouse — we want them to stay in business forever!

I’m not from McPherson, but passing through I thought I would give it a try… I love bbq, and this is good stuff! They actually put as much effort into the sides, as they do the meat. Both were very good, above average!

Im not from kansas, actually from Louisiana. Just here for work, this is definitely the best BBQ place around here, great service and delicious food. The prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity, the sides are incredible. They add lots of brisket and pulled pork to their beans, its delicious. Definitely deserve a 5 star rating in my opinion.

I really enjoy this little place, hidden in the corner of the tiniest strip mall. All of the meats are smoked and delicious except for the turkey. Take my advice and steer clear of that. Otherwise you are safe to have a satisfying and plentiful meal.

I’m from Texas and moved here for a couple years and I used have homemade ribs once a week with my grandparents so I had to find somewhere just as good as home and I did! I started with the 1 meat dinner with two sides and Texas toast and now my favorite is the open face. It’s Texas toast with mashed potatoes and a choice of one of six different meats and gravy. It’s amazing! That with the hot and spicy sauce and my week is set.

Now granted it had been a while since I had BBQ and this close to the Kansas City BBQ Mecca, I was craving good stuff. Here for work, the place is within walking distance of the motels in the area. Located next door to a liqour store I didn’t expect much. But boy was I quickly rewarded for my walk. They have a plethera of sauces, all the commercial kinds I love. They even have their own house sauce which is just as good as the name brands. I got there 10 minutes before they closed on Saturday night. Had the place to myself. Ordered 2 meat dinner with cole slaw and potato salad. The pulled pork was real pulled pork and was really good, the brisket is the second brisket that I have had. Cole slaw was good and had a home made taste. The potato salad was awesome. If you are in town you MUST go here.

The ribs, potato salad and the baked beans are all awesome, so all i ever get is the half rib dinner. If I ever have $ 12 to spend on a meal, this is where I head. Worth the price.

When your in the middle of Kansas, and an engineer from a nearby refinery says lets go here, you go. Can get 1,2,3 meat plates(brisk it, ribs, sausage, chicken, pulled pork), potato salad, cole slaw, bread, more. Great sweet tea. Selection of sauces but get the 2 meat at least to meats to try. A ton of food but inexpensive, and where the locals go. Thats where you go… follow the cars!!!

When I pulled in, the parking lot was full of police cars. I knew this had to be a good place right then and there. There were at least a dozen officers in there having lunch. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and potato salad. They didn’t disappoint. My only suggestion is that they need their own bbq sauce. Their bbq is good, having their own sauce would make it great! This is a new location for them. Keep up the good grub.
