Farm to table! Literally, much of the food was grown mere miles away. Our waiter told me he had picked the beans I was eating for dinner the day before. How cool! Highest quality ingredients, great flavors. More expensive than other places but you get what you pay for. My husband greatly enjoyed the local beers and trout.

Came here for brunch and had really high expectations based on reviews. My boyfriend got the biscuits and gravy which was good but made him sick after. The quiche I got was not good, and small, not at all worth the cost. The coffee was watered down too. I make better food at home. I would not come back.

Nice atmosphere. Very disappointing food and slow service. Chef had no idea how to cook the green beans. They were inedible. Duck was delicious. Chicken was ok. We came expecting fresh, local veggies but were underwhelmed.

This is a lovely restaurant, and the food I’ve ordered has always been fresh, creative, and satisfying! I look forward to going here when I’m in the area. One evening, I’m pretty sure I saw Barbara Kingsolver and her husband having dinner in the restaurant.

The Chef and Staff seemed proud of their food and anxious to talk about it. It wasn’t until I hit the restroom on the way out and read one of the newspaper clippings on the wall, that I made the connection between all Barbara Kingsolver books for sale in the Store next store and the emphasis on the source of the food. I did read the book that inspired this place about 8 years ago. The atmosphere was nice. The food a mixed bag, but a mix of great and just average. The salads and homemade dressings were outstanding. There was a small melon thing in there that I had never seen or even read about in it, among other things. Could have used a few more of those awesome tomatoes they had resting on the counter in it, but otherwise it was great. The Mushroom soup was tasty, but had way too much salt in it. We debated mentioning this, probably should have, but didn’t. Ah well. My Chicken Carbonara was perfect, absolutely perfect. My wife had … Red Snapper I think, which we both judged adequate, nothing more or less. They had a small selection of local beer and local wines, which we both enjoyed. There were a few things we really wanted to try, like the Trout Dip, but we’ll save them for the next trip. This was the last place we ate, but the first I’m reviewing. I’ll try to hit the Abingdon, Marion, and Wytheville establishments sometime this week while I still remember them. At this point I’m thinking Graze on Main in Wytheville was top dog, Black Rooster in Marion second, and this place tied with The Martha Washington in Abingdon for third.

I read about Harvest Table in the Edible Blue Ridge magazine and when we happened to be driving on the interstate nearby, had to stop for an early dinner! Originally, we selected seating on the covered patio. The grapevines were gorgeous and the garden lovely but the flys got a little too friendly so we moved indoors post appetizer. That appetizer, I must say, the house smoked trout dip was OUTSTANDING! With our app, we enjoyed a local Parkway brew and local cider. Once inside, we ordered a bottle of Villa Appalacia wine. It is a favorite and hadn’t seen it anywhere since visiting the winery years ago! On a suggestion from a local we ordered a pizza, The Ironman. Lots of local toppings and freshly tossed crust. Schweety ordered the smoked lamb chops. They were served over corn cut from the cob, roasted baby beets and greens all drizzled with a cidery spicy reduction. Lots of sharing happened with this meal. Although the desserts looked amazing we did not partake this time. Attached to the shop where you can by many of the Virgina wines that they serve and other locally produced products so even if you do not need a meal, you can pick up a little local to take with you. Definitely worth the stop.

I stopped by for lunch on Saturday, July 17. Many things on the menu sounded appealing, but I chose the Cream of Mushroom Soup and the Cast Iron Grilled Hamburger with Aged Cheddar Cheese and Peppered Bacon on Homemade Focaccia Roll. The soup was delicious, the flavor of the mushrooms was prominent, and the other ingredients added a nice balance. The burger was tasty and cooked to my specification(medium), which was great since many restaurants seem to overcook the burger. The focaccia roll was homemade and held together well. It was nice having heirloom tomato slices and leaf lettuce served as well. For those unfamiliar with grass fed beef(used for the hamburger) it does have a different taste than what many people are used to – some people like it and some don’t. The quality of the ingredients of the food served seem to be quite high. I ordered sweet iced tea and it was perfectly brewed and sweetened. The Harvest Table also serves a good selection of local wine and hard apple ciders, but since I was driving, I didn’t try those. I look forward to going back and trying other things from their menu, particularly their interesting dinner menu, and dessert, the next time I am down that way. By the way, I love that they serve Anson Mills products(rice and grits-see dinner menu). For those traveling along I-81, the restaurant is just a short distance north off the interstate exit #24.

This is why I love Unilocal.Would never find places like this, off the main roads, without it. They have a great story, focusing on locally grown, small farm, seasonal foods, and adding to that as needed. I had forgotten what good chicken tasted like! Mushroom soup amazing. Loaded Mac and cheese too. Chicken and cheese sandwich on focaccia magical. Dessert sampler… really… Just don’t miss it. May have to move here to keep up with trying the seasonal menu. Thank you!!!

My husband and I came here for our anniversary dinner since we were staying in nearby Damascus. As a farm-to-fork food lover, this place is right up my alley. I love the philosophy and the casual atmosphere that allows you to just have a regular dinner, or have a special occasion dinner. Service is super cheerful and friendly, though quite a bit slower than we’re used to in DC. We had to do a little flagging down, but it wasn’t too much of a bother as we were in no rush — the dinner was our evening activity. The food was delicious, too — the«local burger» was a unique mix of A LOT of complex flavors that I wouldn’t necessarily put together, but it kind of worked for the most part(and sadly was served medium-well instead of medium-rare); the duck fell away from the bone perfectly, though I wished for more sides on the dish. We even were treated to a complimentary dessert for our anniversary(a huge serving of blueberry cobbler which was decadent and delicious). Note: while there is a patio, they do not allow dogs on the patio, so this is not considered a dog-friendly restaurant. Tip: ask for one of the two tables next to the windows so you can tie your dog up and keep an eye on it while dining(the windows don’t open).

Wonderful dinner at Harvest Table with my bride; HT has quickly become our lunch/dinner tradition when we go hiking nearby. In fact, my bride wants to hike nearby just so we can finish our day at HT. Our favorite menu items are the pumpkin peanut soup, pimento cheese burger, bloody butcher chicken, and NC trout. All the ingredients are beautiful and so fresh, prepared simply and taste wonderful. Never had a bad experience; service is great too. Even if you are watching what you eat, try the blueberry and cream cake. Yum!

We love stopping at Harvest Table. It is a gem of a restaurant in the food desert of I-81. Best of all it’s just minutes from a Exit 24. There’s nothing fancy, but you can get fresh, vegetarian and organic options as well as local grass-fed meat. The service is terrific and it’s an incredible charming spot. Located in a gorgeous old building next to an old-fashioned country store with local crafts, it’s the perfect pit stop for weary travelers.

What an adorable store and restaurant! Exactly what we were hoping for, but didn’t dare to dream we would find so close to the highway. Real pizza oven, amazing garden salads, duck breast with pumpkin and cherry… A real oasis!

Pretty good. The ambiance is nice and the food is quite good. A bit pricey for the area but the fact that the food is locally sourced is a nice touch. Probably the nicest place to eat in the whole area.

Really friendly service, local products and the food was splendid. My boyfriend and I stopped by here on our way back to DC, and, while it was a couple of miles out of our way, it was very much worth it. I lament that our shitty nova neighborhood lacks such an establishment.

I like this place! Four for dinner and everything was delicious! This is definitely a farm to table restaurant w/enough of a twist to make home type of cooking special. A wonderful place. Of the restaurants in SW Virginia this one might be the best if not it’s the most memorable. Tastefully finished interior, excellent service… and my chicken was something to write home about. If near exit #24 on I-81 get off and… enjoy! I could have given 5 stars!

Love this place. We often stop here on the way up and back from our travels. A pioneer in farm to table. Run by the family of Barbara Kingsolver… author of Animal, Vegetable, Miracle… The Lacuna and more. Fantastic pizzas… wood fired… Love the soups, salads… and cool locally sourced meats like rabbity stew.

The Harvest Table doesn’t look like much from the outside but the inside is very nicely decorated with warm woods and unique quilt art hanging on the walls. It was exceptionally inviting as our group arrived for dinner. We were going to a play later so we were the only ones there when they opened for dinner at 5. Our waitress was extremely friendly and very knowledgeable; she talked to us about the restaurant, their farm fresh items, popular items on the menu, and was always available for questions throughout the meal. When our table was split on whether goat cheese was yummy or yucky she brought out some of their own goat cheese for us to try. Overall, she really made the experience. I started with the Shrimp Bisque. Even the small cup was LOADED with shrimp. The bisque itself was delicious. Smooth and decadent without being overly creamy. I chose one the specialty pizzas of the night for my entrée: BBQ Beef Brisket. It used BBQ sauce as the base and had large pieces of tender brisket under the layer of cheese. It was good, but not GREAT. The whole thing lacked some flavor. I wanted a stronger beef taste or a sweeter/tangier BBQ sauce to liven up the pizza. It was filling though and I ended up taking a piece home. Unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to stay for dessert for they looked SOOOO good. I’m sure we’ll be back and have a chance to try these tasty treats. I’m looking forward to returning to the Harvest Table next time I’m in Southwest VA.
