The power was out in our neighborhood so we ordered food from here and after they made us wait 30 minutes for simple rice and shrimp they made us wait another 10 minutes in the lobby until they said they gave our food to someone else. Then basically said well can you wait another 30 minutes? They didn’t even try to make it right in any way. I have been a loyal customer for 5 yrs. No longer. Buyer beware. If you in any way want to be treated with human decency skip this place and go somewhere else.

I forgot to say, I remember when it was called the colony far east, it was pretty good. What, I don’t get it was remodeled? The health dept, should look how dirty it is. The carpet, must have come from the old owners. It was FILTHY, there must be problems with paying bills, or they don’t want you to see what your eating and or how dirty the place is. When, we finally found a worker for a box to take the leftovers, it was as if we had been rude. I also asked why, we had to put up with an argument, about the crime of defrauding a resturant, the hostess said the waitress had overridden her. The truth, was the waitress was obviously one of the owners. When and why a waitress is answering the phone, during me and my friend ordering, making coffee, barely able to speak english or understanding english, also doing the cashering, can’t prove it, but would not be surprised maybe the janitor? When, I ordered the sweet and sour chicken, that is all I got, I have never not gotten rice with it, but at the new far east, you pay for literally everthing. I wanted to leave a tip, YES a tip. Of 2 pennies to let the person know of the terrible service. In case you don’t know, if the service is bad, ALWAYS leave a tip. I was told by a waitress if you don’t leave a tip, they actually think you might of forgot. However, leaving a few pennies, lets them know how you thought things were and is meant to be an insult, and the waitress knows the reason why!

Had not been there in several years, and it used to be ok… Monday evening, 5−4−15. Hubby ordered the Chicken Lo Mein, wish we had read the reviews first, it was most certainly not Lo Mein! I ordered Black Bean Chicken. We also ordered an order of Chicken Fried Rice, to go, upon leaving, which we had to wait for, after paying. Lo Mein was absolutely tasteless, hubby asked the waitress for Chili Paste, and she was very confused — had to go ask someone where to find it. Said she was new there,(2 months), but had worked at Kim’s for several years??? She didn’t even know what Chili Paste was, but brought us a nice assortment of sauces, including the paste, hot mustard, and a LOVELY Garlic Sriracha Sauce that was very nice. Black Bean Chicken was lacking ANY kind of sauce. Yes, it had black beans in, but… Not what I expected. LOTS of veggies, and very little processed chicken, the water chestnuts were nice though. And I loved my side of pan-fried noodles! I am currently sitting in front of a bowl of the to-go Chicken Fried Rice. Not browned at all, looks and tastes like steamed. Minimal small chunks of the processed chicken, and a VERY few green bits which I think are dried chives or green onion. NO peas, sprouts, egg, NOTHING! Not happy, won’t be back!

The hot and sour soup was great! Hunan beef and house chow main was bland. The veggies were cooked and meat were cooked right but just needed something to enhance the flavor. We added Chile paste and it was better. The orange chicken was yummy.

My wife and I were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food at New Far East. We ordered the: General Tao’s Chicken, Szechuan Shrimp, Chicken Fried Rice, and Hot and Soup Soup. The General Tao’s Chicken was crispy and juicy– nicely cooked, the shrimp was very tasty, and the chicken fried rice was surprisingly good. Portions were enormous and the wait staff was very friendly. The décor is old school and the prices were low– $ 33 for all of this food. We’ll be coming back!

Generic Chinese food I was not impressed at all with the chicken lo mein bland with no flavor and way to many different veggies not enough noodles or chicken. On the menu it said fried wontons so you would think that’s a fried crab wontons is really just fried wonton wrapper with nothing inside. Also ordered take out they said it would be ready in 20 min and then had to sit down there and wait another 20 min before everything was ready.

I went here for a celebratory meal. We had eaten here once a few years ago, just veggie fried rice and fried shrimp, and I had thought the food was pretty good but a little over priced. This time I didn’t even get to the food! It was a very long time before we were seated, even though there was just one other occupied table in the whole resturaunt(there were a few people in the lounge). Then once at our table it was an absurdly long time and she never came back to give us tea or take our order! We watched her chat with the only other table(who already had their food) for quite a while then she left, then she responded to a take out order, and left again. We were hungery and had not even gotten water or tea or placed our order yet, after at least 15minutes, so we left too. The menu was pricey compared to other like places and did not have a vegetarian como or a family-style vegetarian option. Would have given a lower rating, but didn’t feel I should… not having eaten.

Downloaded Unilocal on my phone just for this review… I ordered the General Tao chicken with chow mein. All in all the chicken wasn’t too bad. The chow mein on the other hand wasn’t even chow mein. Bean sprouts, cabbage, onion, celery and whatever other types of vegetables piled high on about 4 or 5 crispy chow mein noodles is not chow mein… When I inquired as to what the supposed«chow mein» was on my plate to whom I assumed to be the proprietor of the establishment, she gave me some snide remark about this being«New Far East style chow mein». I then asked if I could exchange my «chow mein» for fried rice and be refunded the cost, and was met with a swift and unpleasant NO. If you plan dining at this establishment, I would suggest first using the restroom before you’re even seated. I often find much can be gathered about the overall standards of an establishment by the cleanliness of the restroom… Grotesque is an aptly descriptive word. If I wasn’t with with a group of friends dead set on dining there I surely would have followed my own advice. Bottom line: food(other than the«chow mein») is decent at best. Service and hospitality is severely lacking, and sanitation(as deduced by my restroom visit) is almost non existent. DINEATYOUROWNRISK.

We eat here at least twice a month, Best Chinese food ! We have tried all of the others in Medford and White City, and they do not compare to the New Far East. Food is always fresh and you get a lot, can not ever eat all of mine, so we take it home and have for lunch the next day. Great service, and friendly. We love going there and take our friends and family when they are here. If you like Chinese food you will love this place.

The lounge is a great spot for lunch to play a game of keno and sit in a cool booth. The meal cost less than 7 dollars and I could not clean the plate. It’s better than average food, great value and the waitress was friendly and fun.

Everytime I come in to Medford I have to eat here. There are no Chinese resturants in the town where I live. I LOVE the BBQ pork with hot mustard and seeds and I really love the fried shrimp. I know I can get that anywhere, but I guess it is the entire package I like. The waitress was quite abrubt. She knew the menu like the back of her hand but treated us as if we knew nothing. The atmosphere has been the same for 20+ years and I expect it to remain the same. Will continue to come back as long as I return to the valley.

I have to say for such a huge menus, this place is impressive. The lemon chicken is amazing cooked almost Katsu style but in tempura with a great sauce! And the pot stickers are made to order! And they are amazing! Staff is friendly décor is tragic but what do u expect from a local Asian American restaurant. Lol

Truly the best Chinese food I’ve ever had. Whenever I’m in Medford I eat here at least once if not twice. The flavors are great, the quality is there, the veggies are cut up to perfection and the sauces are to die for. Sometimes the service is slow, but they are always friendly and the price is right. I just wish they had one in Portland!

The food is pretty good. It’s a little higher quality than your average American Chinese restaurant. What really makes this place unbearable is the attitude of the hostess, owner, manager, or whoever she is. She’s unbelievably rude and borderline abusive! I’ve had takeout multiple times and each time she’s impatient, unwilling to answer the simplest questions, and will occasionally make a snide comment. The situation isn’t any better when you go inside, pickup or dine-in. I might think it was just myself if it weren’t for my friends and family having the same experience when they call or dine-in on different occasions. I have been going to this restaurant for perhaps 15 – 20 years. Sadly, It is not the great experience it used to be. There’s still a –lot– of potential here.

The meal tonight was really tasty! We had foil wrapped chicken, hot & sour soup for apps, then pork chow mein with pan fried noodles, Szechuan beef, Szechuan shrimp, mar far chicken, fried shrimp, and everything was hot and so fresh! The veggies crunched just right and I was really happy with the pork chow mein because it wasn’t the traditional Americanized version! Instead it was all fresh crunchy veggies, not a mushy mess like at other local Chinese places. I will definitely be back. Even though it’s Saturday night and the restaurant is busy, our waters are constantly refilled as well as sodas filled up and tea always checked. It was worth the drive into town to have this good of a meal!

I last ate here about 8 years ago. I used to live around the corner, and, sometimes when I was hungry and not making wise decisions, I would walk there to pick up some incredibly inexpensive, luke-warm food. If you live in Medford, you know that quality Chinese food simply does not exist around here, but if you absolutely must have Chinese — go anywhere but here. That last meal 8 years ago ended mid way through the meal — for an emergency trip to the bathroom to expell what I just ate. My girlfriend suffered the same fate at the same time. Food poisoning much? From what I’ve been told by others who’ve eaten more recently, it’s gone even further downhill despite the change in wnership.

If I could give this ½ a star I would! This place was terrible! We had recently just moved to the area and trying to become familiar to dining out. We read Google reviews of this place online and the reviews were 50⁄50 so we decided to check it out ourselves. I ordered the Mongolian beef which had about 4 pieces of meat and the rest was onions. My significant other ordered Kung pao chicken which had about 4 pieces of meat and a pound of celery. The soup was terrible and we ordered what we thought to be a simple deep fried shrimp appetizer. The shrimp were deep fried alright, but the grease they were fried in was old and we had to peel each and every shrimp. Some of the shrimp needed to be cleaned because they still had their poop shoots! This place was awful and I highly recommend it if you plan on sleeping on the toilet with a belly ache all night!

I seriously love new far east whenever we come to Medford its hard for me to decide what I want from there because everything looks delicious, but I am a creature of habit I once again ordered the number #4 it came with Mar Far(their Mar Far is the Best!) It also came with Pork Fried Rice(Positively Fabulous! The best pork fried rice) and deep fried Shrimp(Kind of lacking the big shrimp, but still pretty good) it also came with my choice of hot and sour soup or egg flower soup, I chose the egg flower soup(Did Not like this very much, tasted to much like water and looked like water it was super pale) my husband and I split a combo appetizer it came with Mar Far, Fried Shrimp, BBQ Pork, and Spring Rolls I liked each part of the combo, it was really good. They lose 1 star with me because of the small shrimp in the fried shrimp, and because the egg flower was to much like water and lacked flavor.

In the 1980’s it was originally called Colony Far East. The original owners, Frank & Cathy Lam, ran the restaurant for about 20 years before the passing of Frank Lam. Cathy, knowing she wouldn’t be able to manage, rented the restaurant to Andrew and Lee. With that exchange brought about a decade of terrible service, horrible food, lack of quality concerns and so forth that literally drove the business into ruins. All of the Lam’s hard work and dedication was obliterated thanks to the new owners lack of care. Just when all hope seemed to be lost, a daring couple stood up and took the challenge of restoring Far East to its glory days. After months of renovations which included brand new wok stoves, new interior paint job(from gloomy brown to bright open white), redesigned video poker room, better accessibility for the handicap, and overall a much better flow of production throughout the restaurant. After all this and so much more, it is rightfully called New Far East As for the food, they place a huge emphasize on serving only the best quality ingredients. This means shopping every other day for the freshest produce around. Also, almost everything is made in house, from the potstickers to their dozen or more delicious sauces. On a side note there is a sauce called«pink sauce» or «shrimp sauce» that cant be find anywhere else(or least no where in California as far as I know). It originated in Medford as a dipping sauce for their fried goods; all I know is the locals inhale it by the bottlefuls. Fan favorites include the house chow mein, happy family, shrimp cocktail, and sooooo much more. Everything is made to order and comes out piping hot. The vegetables are just right, not too soggy or too raw and there is plenty of it in most dishes. For the fried goodies, they use a tempura like batter which gives it a nice crunchy exterior but retains a moist interior. Finally, the waiters and waitress are friendly and approachable people that genuinely want to get to know their customers. On busy days, it can get quite hectic as they seem to lack the staff. No worries, they have a full bar and video poker to entertain while you wait for a table. Trust me its worth the wait.
