Very nice place for artist supplies in Medford, MA, especially when there’s so few other options in the immediate area. I’m very glad this place exists.

We’ve used The Paint Box several times for our local framing needs, and they have always done a bang-up job. From the straightforward(diploma) to the more interesting(stamps and a first-day cover), to the truly unusual(a 1950’s era well-worn and enormous tourist map), they have always worked patiently and creatively with us to come up with matting and framing styles and colors that have produced consistently excellent results. They’re more expensive than your Michael’s or mall poster store, but they are professionals and they will not disappoint.

I have to admit this review is only for artists supplies and pencils and paper at that. I used to go to AC Moore over in the Assembly mall. The prices are similar(maybe better). I read the other review and the mention of the prices, maybe AC Moore is not cheap. There was a line of oils and such. As for the framing part of the business it is the coolest place I have ever seen.

The Paintbox has been in business for as long as I can remember… probably even longer. With it’s distinct green shag rug from the 60’s(I assume it is still there), the Paintbox offers custom framing as well as ready mades. They also have a nice, but expensive line of oil and acrylic paints and pastels. I have not been there in a while but I always enjoyed the small, intimate, and nostalgic atmosphere of the store. The people that work there are knowledgeable and have been in the business long enough to know it inside out. Not the best place for broke student artists, but it is reassuring to know that it is 5 minutes away.
