I’m a lifelong South Shore guy, so I don’t find myself north of Boston all that often and when I do, I like to grab a roast beef. I was up in the Malden-Melrose area twice this week and hit Liberty Bell both times. I can not adequately state how satisfied I was. This is ultra thin-sliced, hot, rare, super tender, beefy, saucy goodness. Both times I left immediately after I finished before I went back to the counter to order another one. Save me from myself as these are a heart attack on a bun. I had myself convinced Nick’s in Beverly was the best roast beef around. I’m not so sure now. What I am sure about is that if I lived in Melrose, I’d be 10 pounds heavier and my cholesterol would be up 20 to 30 points because I would be here all the time. Huge, enthusiastic recommendation.

Love Liberty Bell. Long time Melrose/Wakefield transplant originally from elsewhere in NE. I started going there for Fried Clams, and eventually found myself enjoying various menu items from MA’s love of Roast Beef, to the chicken finger plates and fish and chips, as well as subs. I’d give it five, but their lobster roll was not«fresh» and to me tasted preserved. Stay away from that and everything is pretty fantastic!

Liberty Bell is our go to take out place for seafood, subs and roast beef sandwiches. Last night I had the Fried seafood combo, with clams, shrimp, scallops and haddock. It also came with rings, fries and Cole slaw. I paid 23.50 and it was worth every penny. Plenty of fish on the plate, and it was delicious. My wife ordered the Fried shrimp special, which is 12 good size shrimp, with rings, fries and Cole slaw for 12.00, a great deal. I am very confident when we decide to go to the Liberty Bell, that we will get a great amount of food for the price. The quality of food they put out is far superior to the local rival seafood/roast beef take out places.

We have gone here several times. The last 2 times we had minor issues… first husband ordered a cheeseburger sub and it was raw inside. As he does not like one bit to complain to a food establishment and then have them handle his food«angry» he would not mention it to the manager until we were leaving. Of course this means the man didn’t get to eat. When we told her(assume it was the manager?) She was apologetic brought it to the attention of the cook whose first response was«NOITSCOOKED!» until he was given it and saw himself it was most indeed NOTCOOKED. You see though this is exactly why my darling husband does not want food remade… the cooks initial reaction and opposition to the mere idea that he possibly didnt cook it correctly is not an appropriate response. Rather it is pigheaded and ignorant. Ok, so we were told to give them husbands first name and the next time we come in he will get a «free» sub. Free on what planet is something you paid for free? If the first one was not edible and you paid for that first attempt, not refunded your money, then go back at a second attempt… it was never«free». The decent thing to do would have been to refund our money. Not the entire bill amount but for radishes sake the cost of the sub. My husband never went in and asked for his«free» sub. That’s not our style and again it lets the staff know he originally had a complaint about their food. This week husband ran in for take out. A fairly big order that ran over 50.00. Yes thats alot for a sub shop IMO. We ordered 2 kids chicken finger plates as part of it and husband asks the lady about the drink they advertise as part of the plate… she told him he was wrong. He calls me and tells me I must be wrong about a drink for each being included and needless to say when he grabbed a menu to see what i was referring to from my menu at home, It does say a 16oz. soda comes with. Look, we are not trying to get something for nothing. Just dont advertise something you dont want to give… theres a principle involved. A little integrity, no? Luckily my husband does not get embarrassed easily. Should anyone have to approach this lady(who is NOT new there) with the menu to debate what it says? Of course not. He did though, and we received the sodas. The food here is good. The prices are reasonable. They definitely have some good specials, particularly for fish options. I would recommend going there. I guess my point to these two examples however is that life is tedious enough on us all. The day to day B.S. I can deal with a burger not being fully cooked or someone not realizing or remembering that a soda is part if a deal… of course I can. What I dont appreciate is a cook whose in denial and doesnt wait one second to look at what he cooked, or an employee who treats a customer as if they’re trying to get a free soda. Its all a reflection of what their first instinct is towards a customer.

The food here is very good, no problem there. But picking up take-out on a busy night can be an awful experience. There’s one narrow path from the door to the registers and people are always confused about where to go and if they are cutting the other people in line who are waiting to order or if it’s okay to just approach the takeout counter. The other night I stood in a line of aggravated people as we watched the girl at the take-out register continue to pick up a ringing phone to take orders and ignore the growing line of people waiting for their food. Plenty of bags behind her too, so of course we’re all wondering if it’s our food getting cold while we’re being ignored. Other people came in an asked if we were in line to order or not… Everyone seemed confused. As mentioned, their food is good, and the high foot traffic has been earned. But, come on, figure out how to organize your establishment. Post some better signs. Have one of the crew step outside and help when it gets backed up. Have somebody call out the finished take-out orders once in a while for the people in the back who are just waiting there.

Disappointed! We just got two of the most dried out roast beef sandwiches you can think of. No cheese on either even though I was charged for it. Not cool Liberty Bell… I think the roast beef was from last night because it was so hard and tasteless. We threw them away.

This place was good. The amount of lobster in the lobster roll was amazing. It was a great sandwich. But Remove the celery from the lobster roll. It’s disgusting and unnecessary. You have this amazing sandwich full of amazing lobster and you are trying to make it better with celery. Gross. Stop now!

A consistent take out option. I have only really had the chicken kabob or streak tip kabob salads but they are always good! They give you plenty and are generous with the portions. They have a location in Melrose and Stoneham and both seem to be very comparable.

By far the best roast beef in Melrose Wakefield Stoneham area. Can’t beat half price pasta Mondays, broiled seafood dinners are absolutely amazing, the chicken wraps are great, chicken noodle soup is awesome, can’t go wrong here.

I was at the Liberty Bell with my dad today and I was completely amazed with this place! I thought the food was awesome. I ordered the fried haddock dinner and the fish was so fresh and moist. It was my first time there and I will definitely be going back there more often. The people there are so friendly. They give really good portions and everything is priced pretty good.

Half price on all pasta dishes on Mondays! Where did I go on Labor Day? Yup, I went to LIberty Bell. Greeted with friendly staff(sorry that you guys had to work!) upon entering. I called for take out and food was ready in less than 15 mins. Got the big beef with BBQ sauce and cheese(extra fee for toppings I guess? I didnt know beforehand) and shrimp scampi. If you dont like garlic, tell them to go easy on it because mine had tons. I love garlic so that didn’t bother me. Big portion and although my pasta dish was half off, they didn’t go cheap on the shrimp =)

I love Liberty Bell. I loved it when they opened a place in Wakefield where McDonald’s used to be. I haven’t tried too many different things, but everything I’ve had was better than anyone else’s local offerings. Most recently I went to Melrose and had a shrimp basket, onion rings, and they didn’t balk at substituting coleslaw for the fries that came with it for only $ 12. It was a special item priced like that, a DOZEN shrimp with rings and fries for $ 12. Great deal. You should run out and get some. While I was waiting for my order, I looked around at the other diners enjoying their food, and watching the staff wrapping the take out orders, and all the food looked so-o-o good. I’ve enjoyed an entire seafood plate there once, because I couldn’t decide which shellfish I really wanted most, and it was fabulous, but I had to take half of it home. I’ve loved their roast beef sandwiches and fries, and even the coleslaw, which seemed too sweet for my taste at first, grew on me. They even make good tartar sauce, and nobody since Dory’s closed(in Wakefield) has even come close to satisfying my taste for great tartar sauce. Sometimes those details make all the difference. But Liberty Bell beats the competition in my opinion, for great seafood, great roast beef, and great value. I wish they never closed that Wakefield site, but I’m glad I can still go to Liberty Bell.

After reading reviews, had to try this place out. The clam chowda is probably the best I’ve ever had. Think IT moved while I was eating that goodness. Got the roast beef sandwich, fantastic. Lived up to what I expected.

OMG! One of the very best sea food spot in Boston I really mean it, it’s fresh out the oven and well made to a good taste!

This is one of those rare establishments, which year after year, continue to serve high quality, perfectly cooked fried seafood, in a timely fashion. Try the fried shrimp. You’ll see that they use a much higher quality shrimp, than any other place in the area. It is always clean and the staff is quite friendly, considering the fast paced atmosphere, of such a popular place. If you haven’t seen hard-working employees in a long time, come here. As Ricky Nelson used to say, «they don’t mess around boy».

Being from Chicago, I am by no means an expert on lobster rolls. Having said that, the lobster roll at Liberty Bell was extremely tasty. It was overflowing with large chunks of quality, fresh meat. The rest of the menu looked tasty as well. The restaurant is clean comfortable if you plan on eating there.

This place is over rated I’m not saying it’s bad but it’s not good. The French fries taste like seafood cause they obviously don’t change the oil and the roast beef is ehhh. Im driving eat here for lunch if that’s what a friend wanted but im driving never step foot in there on my own, the food is just so so.

Love this place for their subs, roast beef and seafood. Reasonable prices for good portions of food. Hard to find anything this proper anywhere! Get the roast beef combo with shrimp to get the best of both worlds! Or go all out with a fisher and platter. Can’t go wrong either way.

UGHLIBERTYBELL. Stop being so delicious. Liberty Bell has become a blessing and a curse. We stumbled upon this fantastic establishment when my fella started working near by. We have not been the same since. I have run the gammut on their menu and have yet to find anything that I wasn’t completely impressed and delighted by. Hands down, best chicken finger sub ever. Fried seafood? Yup. Their fries. Ugh. Stop it. Recently I tried their grilled chicken salad — the homemade creamy house dressing is outta sight. My only beef is the dinky little pita bread that accompanies the salad — but whatevs, I don’t need the carbs. They have great specials. The dining area is always clean and bright. The staff is friendly. I really can’t get enough.
