After reading a few reviews on here; my boyfriend and I decided lets give it a try. Where to begin?! First off we came in and the music player was turned up so loud there wasn’t such thing as private conversation. Second we were greeted by a homeless man who harassed us(don’t get me wrong I think what they do for the homeless there is great! At the same time they should have rules for them as well). Third our waitress was out of control singing loud and off key lol and messing with the cook and cackling loudly but in good spirits she was a sweet girl. Lastly and what was he icing on the cake for us was as we waited for our drinks at the bar stool area I caught a quick glimpse of something. I look again and a not shy mouse casually walked out, stared at the server and her antics for a brief second then turned and walked toward the restroom area needless to say we quietly walk the other direction back out the door and went home.

The food is amazing, the service is so great, however, the only reason this E’s gets 3 stars instead of 5 is because the owner is a complete JERK. He’s very rude, mean, threatening, and nasty to his employees and customers. I was able to witnesses this on my last visit. My advice? Don’t dine in if the owner is present, your appetite will be ruined. Otherwise, if he isn’t??? Have a seat and enjoy your meal

My wife and I were in the Medical District today and wanted a good breakfast. I had read about E’s and we decided to try them out. First, it’s a small place, but we got a booth for Brunch. The coffee was great. I decided on E’s Big Breakfast with hashbrowns and waffles. The waffles were quite tasty and well cooked. The eggs were great, but the hashbrowns were a bit lacking in taste — but still good. The staff were courteous and kept our coffee cups full of the good coffee. Check them out the next time your hungry for a good breakfast downtown.

DONOTWASTEYOURTIME!!! Took thirty minutes to get cold, uncooked eggs, pancakes not cooked thru, hash browns swimming in grease and yet raw, questionable turkey sausage and a biscuit that was a hockey puck. Just don’t bother. Go to the Cupboard down the street.

It may be the perfect diner with the servers calling you«hon», blithely announcing the ironclad«no substitutions-no changes» rule, sticky(greasy) vinyl booths, tabletops, floors(you WILL smell of grease when you leave), and the cherry — servers wearing footy pajamas(Christmas day fun). One of the very very few places open early Christmas afternoon so hubby was grateful for his over-easies, bacon and toast. I very stiffly endured without a game demeanor. He pronounced it edible — and I had to change clothes. Yes — lambast me as a snob and for lacking appreciation in such Americana. Guilty as charged.

If you want a good time, great waitresses and delicious affordable food, this is the #1 spot to go. Definitely a must try, voted in Sunday’s Commercial Appeal as a #1 place in the restaurant reviews was right on. We ordered pancakes, biscuits and burgers. The commercial appeal definitely got the vote right. Delicious from start to finish. Great environment! See ya’ll again for sure!

Across from Methodist University Hospital. Classic«whole in the wall» gem of a place. Straight forward menu and good. Waffle House on steroids comes to mind. Shelby was very nice and she’s very pretty, too!

This little place is a gem! My husband and I were in Memphis for BSMF and wanted so breakfast at 11am. They have everything and it’s all served 24 hours a day. I had chicken and waffles and my husband had the big breakfast. Everything was great and fairly fast. I love that you can see in the kitchen and it’s very clean. Everyone was very friendly and there are good vibes in here. The cook was like a machine and definitely on top of her game. We will definitely be back!

Fast, friendly service and yummy food. When everywhere else is closed, you can always count on E’s. The prices are excellent and the atmosphere is fun and casual. I’d particularly recommend the fried corn.

What seems like a good idea, isn’t always a good idea. One of my friends needed food in bad way very early on a Sunday morning. I somehow managed to convince him that stopping at E’s 24-hour Café would be a good idea. The place was packed at 3am but there was no turning back once we arrived. I used to frequent this location years ago when it was still called CK’s. I figured the only thing that changed was the name. I figured wrong. We asked for two waters and two menus. We NEVER got the water. All I wanted was pancakes(and water) and my buddy ordered two eggs over-medium, bacon, and wheat toast. The food seemed to take forever. I have no idea how long we sat there. Probably long enough to go to the store, purchase all the ingredients for a yummy breakfast, return home, and hire someone to cook and serve the breakfast while we read the Sunday morning paper. I asked for the water at least 3 times while we waited. No water! The food was eventually served. The pancakes were over-cooked and dry… no syrup. After asking twice, I finally got some cold syrup in a Styrofoam cup. The dry pancakes tasted like they were made from white cake batter instead of pancake batter. Very odd. Kinda hard to choke down… especially with out the dang water! The bill came quickly after the food. I was satisfied that our visit had served it’s purpose. We paid. The remaining change was returned along with a single cup of water in a to-go cup. Really?

The worst! The oil was burning and created smoke throughout that began burning my eyes… And it looked like a war zone in the kitchen… so grossssssss too bad we waited

Great diner food in a cheerful environment with the best jukebox in the city. Prices are low, and it never closes. You just can’t go wrong here.

Way cleaner than before… If you have ever been to this location when it was CK’s try to rethink it now. I mean yes, the parking still sucks and you do risk making that left hand turn on Union, but in a way its worth it. I had the Big E’s Breakfast when we went this morning. I got my unlimited coffee as well. That breakfast special is soooooo cheap! $ 5.99 for a waffle, bacon, eggs, and hashbrown! You can’t beat that!!! I love the classic hearty breakfast meals, so it was right up my alley. The waitress was cool too, she got alittle busy when it was time to check out but she was all in all attentive! She acted like she respected her job and that’s all you can really ask for at places like that. So yes for a cheap breakfast I’ll definitely be back. No you don’t get that«midtown fee» but you do get that old school café feel except this place is clean lol…

Many of the CK’s Coffee Shops in Memphis closed, and now they have been taken over by E’s 24 Hour Café. It’s still a diner/café that is open all the time, but they have made it cleaner. You can still watch the cooks prepare the food. It has breakfast, sandwiches, etc. I had coffee, which was ok. For my meal, I had eggs over easy with hash browns and sausage. I also added gravy to my biscuits. It is a late night diner, but I prefer it to CK’s and waffle house.

Five start for what it is, definitely! My boyfriend and I can never find a place we both want for breakfast– this morning after a million«i dont know, where do you want to gos», he proclaimed«We’re going to E’s!!!» So we decided to give it a shot. As we walked in Johnnie Taylor’s «My Last Two Dollars» was playing on the jukebox, our awesome server sang to us, served us diet cokes with CRUSHEDICE and brought us delicious patty melts and omelettes. Everyone seems to be having a lot of fun that works there and there isn’t that dreary smoky Ck’s vibe. The food is basically a less greasy version of the old menu and the place got a facelift in the form of lime green paint. Good food, friendly entertaining staff, crushed ice and good music– what else could you want from a greasy spoon. And oh yeah, they take cards unlike stuckinthe1980s Ck’s. This place made us in a good mood and we will definitely be back!

First of all, I feel uncomfortable doing food pics in a diner; and second, can a diner ever rate 5 stars, when my definition of a diner is greasy food that’s really not as good nutritionally as it is for your soul? E’s is a friendly new place tucked away on Union across from Methodist Hospital. I had breakfast(waffle, bacon-cooked to perfection, and hashbrowns) at about 4PM. The place was fairly full. The staff was very friendly and nice. The food was diner fare, and the coffee was good. This was kind of a quick first visit, but I will definitely return to try out my usual diner favorites: more breakfast items, and the burgers.

Came in around 11am on a Sunday. No waiting for a table but there was a decent crowd. All the employees were friendly and seemed happy to be there. I had the patty melt and fries for only $ 4.99. Very decent meal for the price. Sure, it was super greasy but that’s pretty much how a patty melt is supposed to be. Check total was $ 15 bucks for two patty melts, two orders of fries and two sodas. Not bad. Next time I’ll ask for the fries to be well-done, I likes em crisp! Otherwise, I would say this was a perfect diner/greasy spoon experience. BTW — the interior has been completely redone since it was a CK’s — it’s cute and clean. Update — I contacted them through FB to request that they add milkshakes and cook their fries a little longer. The owner responded that they are adding milkshakes soon and they would work on the fries. I thought that was very cool.
