This restaurant appears to be closed for good. South Main, the restaurant, seems to be moving into the location.

Loved it! We shared a hot pretzel which was delicious then ordered a couple of sandwiches. One was the Reuben and the other had roast beef and mashed potatoes. I was extremely satisfied with both. Frankly, I’m kicking myself for not coming here sooner. It was raining and yucky out today and it is Sunday(brunch) so the atmosphere may be a little different than other hours/days. Fortunately for us there was a guy playing the piano in the corner who was very talented! They had old Laurel and Hardy episodes playing on the televisions and kept the original charm of the old building including a sign ‘Pullman Rooms’ from the Pullman Hotel which once occupied the building c1912. There was even an old barber’s chair(I believe) next to the bar. So cool!

The food was good, but the service was lack luster. I was disappointed when I ordered a beer and was told that their license expired yesterday, so they were not serving beer. To compound that disappointment, while preparing to pay the bill, a table of newcomers was served a round of beer. When we asked the server for an explanation, his sheepish reply was«he’s the manager». I would not return to this establishment.

Well it appears that this place is a bit of a mixed bag. We enjoyed it. Jas was our server. What a delight. I’d hire her. From the time we walked in we were treated like guests. She explained the menu and made recommendations. When the food arrived it was hot and tasty. Another nice touch, she feeds a homeless guy out of her own pocket nightly. We’ll be back.

This was the most superb dining experience I have had in Memphis. We weren’t sure what would be open on New Years but trekked our way to this spot, excited to check out the haunted piano & get down on some German grub! Soooo good! I got sausage & my honey got the pork schnitzel– every bite was devoured! AMAZING! Sides were killer– cheese spaetzle, greens & the most delicious mashed potatoes I’ve ever had. Happy hour beer prices were killer & when I asked about the crazy cool barber chair to the left of the bar they put me in it and poured a free shot down my throat I was kinda hoping for the big glass boot of beer but after experiencing the incredible customer service, unbelievably great food & all the personal touches of this establishment, who gives a f*ck?!

I really wanted to love this place but there were a few glaring issues that I simply cannot ignore. For starters, I ordered a glass of the Sofia Coppola. Everywhere I have ever been, this has been sparkling wine. Well, it was indeed sparkling wine when I looked at their wine list, but they also had a Sofia Coppola Chardonnay on their menu. And since I have the worst luck in the world, they brought me a glass of the Chardonnay not the sparkling wine. Now, if you look at Chardonnay, it looks like super flat champagnes… and tastes like super flat champagne but after two sips I knew this wasn’t what I wanted. So I told the waiter I meant Sofia Coppola champagne not Chardonnay and he simply said«Oh» and walked away. NO offer to make it right or fix it… even though it was $ 10 and I literally only had 2 sips of it. Annoying. Luckily my girlfriend drank it… but I still had to pay for it. Now for the cheese plate. Ummmm the cheese plate was $ 13 and ridiculous. Not large at all and didn’t taste that great either. For $ 13(especially a starter), I expect something not only tasty but on the large side… this was neither. And finally, my entrée… the veal something I can’t pronounce over mashed potatoes. It was not very good… and by the way, my tab at the end of the meal was $ 105. Yes, I ordered 2 bottles of wine(for my friends, y’all, I’m not a total lush)…but for that kind of money I expect a delightful meal and time. And the more I think about it, the more I’m annoyed that they didn’t take the $ 10 glass of Chardonnay off my bill. Clearly I was spending money at their establishment and it would have been the nice thing to do. Don’t think I’ll be coming back here. You can more bang for your buck elsewhere AND the service really upset me.

Ugh, the food. So good. I got the sauerbraten which was AMAZING. So freaking delicious. I love pot roast and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that this was the best one I’ve ever had. And the roll that came with it? So good. I wanted like four more. But I couldn’t even finish what I had in front of me, so it was probably good that I only had one. The portions are huuuuuge, and we didn’t even order any appetisers. The person I was with got the scallops, so I got to try the spätzle. So good. Little tiny bits of noodle deliciousness in gruyère with corn. It was really good. They didn’t like it and I was sitting there thinking it was like delicious German macaroni and cheese, but better. The only thing that kind of sucked was when we were done, our waiter just totally disappeared. Like there was no coming back to offer refills on drinks, nothing. After waiting over ten minutes, we finally had to flag down another waiter and asked them if they could get our waiter(I hate doing that, I always feel so rude). But other than that, everything was wonderful and I’d definitely come back. (A little tiny annoyance: the menu had typos: Deutch instead of Deutsch, no umlauts, etc.)
