We used to frequent Perkins quite regularly, so much that we were recognized by the staff. I don’t remember when they did their most recent remodel, but we came in for dinner one night shortly after and the prices had increased substantially. The reason we were there to begin with was because they served good grub at affordable prices. But the new prices put them in «Huey’s» range, which we had to cut out because it is now also way too pricey for burgers and fries. The two adults and one child in our little family can’t afford to spend $ 40 to $ 50 at a burger joint or at a Denny’s/Shari’s style counterpart on the regular. So for the most part, we have cut them out of our rotation. Until this morning. The hubby and I(while son is at Grandma’s) decided to visit Perkins for the first time after many months(or a year?) He loves the chicken fried steak and I like their huge menu selection. We thought the chicken fried steak was kind of pricey before, but $ 11.99? He decided to get something else and we kind of agreed that Perkins has decided it’s a higher class restaurant than it actually is. The food has always been consistently good, but nothing special. We came for the reasonable prices, but they aren’t so reasonable anymore. I understand inflation, but raising the cost of everything by 15 to 25%? We might be back in another year. Or not. Our wages haven’t caught up with the rate of inflation at some of the restaurants around here.

This is usually my late night hang out when I want a decent meal but last visit was not good. I had hair in my food.

One star because I cannot give any fewer. I moved here a few weeks ago and work late hours so I go to Perkins when all else is closed hoping for some late night simple dishes I.e. eggs, bacon, pancakes or a simple sandwich. The waitresses chew gum(health code violation) and spend more time smoking cigarettes out front than checking their tables. The kitchen didn’t know that their was eggs in their breakfast burrito. They can’t even manage a simple substitution like Swiss instead of American or extra crispy hash browns. Terrible. Please stay away. I will personally make you late night pancakes if that’s what it takes to save you from this painful experience.

Wonderful chicken pot pie, made fresh every day! We had a very sweet server, April, and she helped us decide which desserts to get and we were not disappointed!

Worst service I have ever had. It took a hour and a half to get pancakes that was burned and made me pay for it. Don’t ever eat here

Pancakes, pie and waffles! Great service, super chill, and way better than Denny’s. Marcie and the manager were awesome and the food was good.

Perkins at Poplar and Highland near the University of Memphis is pretty good I used to be better. Today for breakfast I ordered the twice as nice combo, 2 eggs with choice of hash browns and three buttermilk pancakes. The service was nice friendly and attentive the food was fresh hot and quickly prepare. However the syrup bottles were completely gummed up sticky, blueberry syrup didn’t even pour out. When asked to, wipe them down everything was okay. Our server, came back and checked on us a number of times so the service is excellent recommend this place and just need to brighten it up keep it clean.

Competent and consistent — yes. Fancy and trendy — no. You know what you are going to get at Perkins. That said, we enjoy breakfast, especially the«healthy» choices with egg whites and turkey sausage. The bacon is crispy(an absolute must) but not brittle. Our healthy choices give us permission to pig out on the muffins — an absolute treat. Good thing we don’t eat here every day. One negative is the vague sense that the place is being cleaned with heavy duty antiseptic while you are dining.

Went here on a trip to Graceland just before I caught my plane back to California. It was a bit empty so I pretty much had the waiter to myself. He was very nice and even sat with me a bit and kept me company while I ate. I wish I could remember his name! I drove all over Memphis and Tunica and other cities close by trying to find a restaurant – just a plain old restaurant with regular American food. I was given directions by people and never could find anywhere I wanted to eat until my last day of vacation-finally! The food was good and reasonably priced, the service was great too. I never thought that finding somewhere to eat-becides fast food-would be an issue! I probably will never be in that part of the country again but if I am I know where I can eat! ;)

First of all, they offer college discounts? Ugh. I had no freaking idea. Anyway, the only time I’ve been here, they had floor fans going all over the place(not box fans, if you’ve ever worked in hospitality you know the kind I mean). I asked if they’d had a flood and they said no, I forget what happened. I think the carpet had been cleaned? It was kinda weird, but whatever. It was the middle of the day. Anyway, I was seated, had my food… I mean it’s standard Perkins food. I live closer to the Perkins in Germantown and it tasted just like the food there. I’ve been to the one on Park and it tasted like the food there. I grew up in Florida and it tasted like the food there… catch my drift? I suppose the real test would be to order breakfast. Pancakes and stuff are so easy to spot when they’ve been reheated, it’s why I don’t eat at Denny’s anymore. So basically yeah, if you’ve ever been to a Perkins and thought, «Hey, this food isn’t bad/is inoffensive» then you won’t mind this one. Apparently the crowd gets rowdy at night so if you don’t like that scene, then just avoid going then.

Only one side?! The side was supposed to have two sides according to the picture in the menu, but for some reason they didn’t offer two anymore. Otherwise, the meatloaf was pretty good. Nothing special.

Possibly the worst service ever. My two friends and I stopped by on a Saturday early evening. The place was mostly empty but with several staff members walking around the place. We were seated and forgotten. Several servers walked by and said nothing. Two tables behind us there was a man dining alone. The waitress stood there talking and flirting with him several minutes while we received no attention at all. Finally, we got up, left, and went across the parking lot to La Hacienda instead. Before leaving I asked the lady at the cash register if they were short on help. She replied«No, sir.» «Well, that confirms it», I thought to myself, «You are just lousy and inattentive».

Worst coffee in town! Light brown hot water. Service is lousy. Food, well, you did choose to go to a Perkins so you knew you weren’t getting gourmet. But, anyplace that markets itself for breakfast out to have decent coffee, not Starbucks, but decent. At least dark brown hot water.

What can you say about Perkins? We had a similar chain where I grew up called, Bakers Square. Same pies, similar menu items, everything was fried in some way shape or form and most of the menu items were breaded. We hung out here a lot in that in between stage– when you’re not old enough to drink but still have a drivers license which you think means you have to be out somewhere at all times. Yeah, it’s that kind of place. Open at all hours of the night, drunks, loud college kids, a couple creepers and maybe an old guy in the corner. I’ve been to Perkins only during lunch or breakfast hours, so I cannot attest to the scene you’ll find here in the evening. It’s pretty run of the mill for me. Not horrible, but certainly not something you seek out. In other words, «Where do you want to eat?» should never be followed with«Perkins!» It’s a place you end up because there aren’t any other acceptable choices. The service is slow and the wait staff is always a bit awkward. The food will fill an empty stomach, and that’s about it. But, it does the job that is required of a restaurant of this nature, and it does it well. So, three stars for achieving a set standard of mediocrity!

I had such poor service at this location when I visited I felt led to leave a tip in the ammount of one cent. And I did exactly that, on the table in plain sight. I have not been back since. Also this was late in the evening. I would hate to see what it would be like in the day if they can’t handle themselfs with a small crowd in the evening. Perkins is always a good choice but x this location off your map!

I usually go here only late at night and usually get dessert(occasionally an omelet). To me, the whole atmosphere is grungy. Could use a décor update and a good cleaning on the inside. Staff is friendly and usually pretty attentive. This is near U of M, so there’s always a lot of college students using the free wi-fi(cool feature for a restaurant of this caliber).

Ate here three times in two days… twice because it was open late and had free wi-fi. Safe… but not especially nutritious.
