My husband and I have been coming to Patterson’s for several years now. We love it! One bite into the Kobe beef style burger and we were hooked. We live about an hour inland and always stop here on our trips to the coast. A few years ago we backpacked from Willits to Fort Bragg along the Skunk Train route. We made«Get to Patterson’s» our official mantra for the 37 mile hike and dreamt of biting into their burger and chasing it with a Smithwicks at the end of our journey. They did not disappoint! Through the years we’ve sampled almost the whole menu. We’ve never had a meal here that wasn’t great. It’s a real pub, with real people having whatever kind of day they’re having. If you’re looking for a place where the customer is always right, a fruity drink menu, and child friendly atmosphere, go to Applebees. If you’re looking for a place with a local vibe, intimate atmosphere and a staff that rewards customers displaying common sense and a good attitude… Get to Patterson’s.

Patterson Pub on Lansing provides an authentic pub experience — good food, cold beer, and a welcome vibe. It’s small — — our party of 4 had to share with a party of two others. In no time, before the beer even came, the six of us were conversing like old friends! The food is quite good — top pub grub. I ordered the beef dip with a Scrimshaw pilsner. I was going to order the fries as a side, but the couple beside me showed how large and varied the salad was, and I went for that instead. All in all, I would go back again, more than once.

I rarely post 5 star reviews for anything — but this place was deserving — visiting a friend who just bought a vacation place in Mendocino, he brought me to this cozy local pub — the food was off the hook — the bartender/waitress Carly was friendly, helpful and had just the right edgy humor to make me feel like an old time regular — this place is on the don’t miss list!!!

Always a great place to eat. You get a bang for your buck. The bartender, a older gentle man. Very distinguished and feel horrible I can’t remember his name. He was the highlight of the day. Very professional and went above and beyond. Really enjoyed his witty comments. unfortunately Cassie seems like every time I’m here she is Always snotty and always having a bad day. She must be a owner or relative of the owners because I can’t believe she still works there. Other wise a great great place to eat.

So glad we finally got in! So worth the wait. Tried getting in for lunch but ended up coming back and getting in for dinner. Great staff and the food was great! The Reuben is great! The clam chowder is amazing. The best next to Splash Café… where we base all our clam chowder.

Great atmosphere. Met lots of locals. Had a wonderful but to some extent expensive dinner for what you get. Live music was awesome. Most annoying thing is that they don’t accept credit cards!

A solid place for brews and bites in a town that could quite frankly use a few more options to give Patterson’s Pub a run for their money. Home to some fine brewskies and wines, the place can certainly get packed, especially on weekends when the sun goes down and there aren’t many food options around in the small town of Mendocino besides the regular high end places that I had no desire to go on this evening. Patterson’s is a traditional pub serving traditional bar food that includes burgers, sandwiches, salads, and pastas. We just missed Happy Hour when we got there at 6pm on a Friday night. But the food looked good so we decided to go in anyway. The place was small and packed with a limited number of tables and servers you have to make sure you get noticed by the staff so they can sit you. Now be advised Patterson’s is a small somewhat quaint little pub that does not take credit cards, which can be frustrating I know(there is an ATM in back) and in looking at pictures of menus from years past and comparing it to their menu on their website and in the restaurant prices have gone up(thanks good old inflation and the rise of food costs!) I couldn’t decide what I wanted but a burger in a pub with a glass of wine sounded just right for me! What can I say I’m a wino not a beer guzzler! I have to give them credit judging from years past they have upgraded to offering a nice variety of ½ pound cheeseburgers and they have clearly upped their game with a Kobe Style option which I knew I had to go with on this day. Props to Patterson’s for even giving you an option with regards to their French Fries with skinny, steak, garlic, cheese or sweet potato as choices(it’s almost too much to choose from). We all were so hungry we also wanted to get an appetizer so we literally did an «eenie meenie miney mo»(so scientific I know) and went with the«Killer Nachos» loaded with about everything you can imagine on it(except meat, which was an additional price) it tasted solid and served our appetites well. The burger was good, could I actually tell it was Kobe beef, well not really, which made me sad and at 16 dollars was a decent price. My fellow diners got the pear salad with seasonal pears, goat cheese and a vinaigrette, a steak sandwich with a New York Steak on a grilled sourdough and six of the«special of the day» oysters which were so huge, but they weren’t local as they came from the Washington area when asked. They loved their main courses, while I just liked mine. When a burger is Kobe beef it has to memorable and quite frankly it wasn’t. Really wanted to try their clam chowder but it’s a weekend soup only for some reason and although it was a Friday we weren’t sure they had it available(turns out they did have it but we didn’t get it anyway). Maybe I will swing by next time we’re in town. But in a word, Patterson’s Pub is decent, it’s not great or memorable, but definitely serviceable in an area that is lacking a number of affordable options for tourists. As we left, I did see some couples with their older parents sit down to eat and then thought well at least the menu is eclectic enough for them to sample their pasta dishes(which it looks like they did in fact try out), and it won’t shock their wallets while they dine here, and being able to say that in Mendocino actually says something.

we came here on NYE b/c it was one of the only places open in mendocino. the town is pretty sleepy, so everything was closed by 9 pm. we had the salmon caesar, mac and cheese and the steamed clams w/garlic bread. portions were hefty and the prices were cheap. we almost came here again for dinner the next night, but it was super crowded.

Crap wait staff — waited 15 min and kept making eye contact and smiled at both waitresses and zero attempt to come even say«were busy we will get to you as soon as we can» — I left after 20 min. See ya. In Mendocino the bakery was the only pleasant experience. I revised insulting the whole town since to be fair I didn’t go to every business, but the attitudes I encountered here were unfriendly — especially after the owner of this pub contacted me and insulted me via my Unilocal profile. Very disappointing.

Fantastic little pub in the middle of town. I’ve been to quite a few pubs in the big cities like San Diego, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. This is by far one of the best experiences I’ve had in a while. Food is outstanding, along with the draft beers and mules.

This review is for the food only. Stayed in Mendocino 3 nights, read about Patterson’s online & planned to order some dinner to go, to eat back at the room on the first night in town after a 5 hour drive. My husband & I both ordered cheeseburgers with fries as well as stuffed jalapenos and killer steak nachos. The cheese burgers were pretty standard, tasty but nothing crazy special. The killer steak nachos though? Crazy special, indeed! All the traditional nacho toppings along with delicious chunks of perfectly cooked steak. Not a speck of fat or gristle on the meat; a wonderful and delicious choice. The jalapeño poppers were tasty. After having an early start & a really long day the next day, by the time evening came we decided to eat in again & we both agreed that we wanted to try other things at Patterson’s. I got a club sandwich and hubby got the steak sandwich — both yummy. Day 3, I had planned on a nice dinner out and had made a hard decision between 3 of the nicer local restaurants. Happy with my choice, I settled down in the nest of a bed at our inn and relaxed a while. Well, after finding it impossible to rouse myself from the«I’m going nowhere» mood that ensued, we were unanimous in our decision that dinner would be eaten in, again & again from Patterson’s. We needed killer steak nachos again; this night I had the Bay Shrimp Quesadilla, which was delectable & hubby had the sausage & peppers sandwich. No complaints! We whole wholeheartedly recommend Patterson’s for great takeout!

Stopped by here for dinner while we were Mendocino after a friend recommended this place to us. Overall, good food, okay atmosphere, good beer selection, great service. We were seated right away at a communal table. This place is relatively small and they try to accommodate a lot of people through these communal tables I think. We sat with only one other couple(the two other chairs at our table did not get occupied during our stay). They have a pretty extensive beer selection. I ordered the Cajun grilled shrimp(which came with fries) and boyfriend ordered blackened cod salad. My dish had only 5, but very large, succulent, very well seasoned shrimp. I wasn’t very full after a meal of 5 shrimp and fries. This dish could use a little side salad or veggies and maybe some garlic bread to make it worth the money. The blackened cod salad on the other hand was a pretty good size, had a great dressing and a decent sized piece of fish. We tried their fresh blackberry cobbler for dessert and it was outstanding. Other than my dish being not super filling, the other main drawback is that they are cash only. Most of the places in Mendocino don’t take credit cards but for an establishment like this, I was expecting more. We would probably still come back here(as there are not many good dinner options in the headlands), but I’d order something else.

Stopped in to Patterson’s Pub for a few drinks over the weekend and ended up staying for lunch and dinner. Patterson’s is a very good version of Irish/British style pub in America. They had a great beer selection and the employees were all very fun and friendly. The bartender Don was a hoot! The food, however, is what really made the place. They had a lot of standard pub fare and they do it very well. Lots of good specials too. Portions are on the other side of large, which is a good thing. Prices are reasonable, especially for what you get in quality and quantity. This is not fine dining, but is definitely good eating! The place had an interesting mix of tourists(eg us!) and locals and everyone was friendly. Lots of interesting characters and charm. Bathrooms were clean and the service was good. Keep in mind that they only accept cash, like several other places in the area. If you are looking for a spot for a drink, or some satisfying comfort food in Mendocino, this is your place!

This place is so cool and funky and quirky. It’s located in the CUTEST town ever, Mendocino. The main street looks like it’s straight out of a story book. Patterson’s Pub is located inside the part of a former church. The inside is decorated really eclectic, with all sorts of things adorning the wall, including a GIANT moose head. We were so thankful this place was open late, bc after making the long drive up the coast from SF, we were starving. And at 9 pm, this was the only place open in town other than the grocery store. It was packed, we had to wait for a table. We all ordered burgers. I got mine with a side salad, and I thought both were really good. The side salad was surprisingly good, bc they used nice greens, not just romaine or iceberg lettuce and the balsalmic vinaigrette was simple and perfect. The burger was just a regular burger. For dessert we ordered the Guiness chocolate cupcake. Oh my, you will want to share that thing bc the mousse on top is incredibly RICH. one person should not consume all that decadence alone. it was perfect to share between 3 people. If I lived in Mendocino I think I’d be eating at Patterson’s Pub a lot!

I’ve recently discovered you can learn a lot about a business when you converse with the owner a bit via Unilocal. It’s not every day that I see things in a new light but that’s what happened when it was explained to me why the place is so compact and restricted, historical significance that’s why. Being a novice connoisseur of things historical(fave is the differing historical artifacts dotting our country), I had to let my guard down and realize that this pub holds a lot of history in its walls but more importantly is obviously a labor of love. So cheers to Tony and Patterson’s Pub with your good food, friendly staff and ability to change this mind.

This place is loud, hot, and chaotic… and I loved it! We stayed in an Airbnb just outside Mendocino, and our host recommended Patterson’s as more affordable than other restaurants in town(she described it as the«locals» hangout). The building has been around for a century, so there’s a nice historical feel to it. The interior is dim and crowded, but has a great vibe and a ton of character. It’s definitely not fancy but not really divey either. They have cheap house wines and reasonably priced beers on tap. We ordered the blackened catfish sandwich and one of the nightly specials, which was chicken parmesan. The server told us straight up when we ordered that chicken parm really meant chicken tenders with pasta — sticking to what you know is fine with me! Both were really good and satisfying. We randomly ran into a few other friends from San Francisco and they joined us for dinner, so the company was great too :)

There is nothing much to like here. To begin with, on a fairly raw evening they kept the door open. Now, they had drapes around the door to cut down on the wind blowing in but there was still no place that was not taken to escape the wind blowing in. Why not shut the damned door. Second, the pint of Guinness was indifferent. For reasons that I do not know, Guinness can vary from awful to indifferent to good to mother’s milk. In most establishments that serve it I expect it to be somewhere between awful and indifferent and will not even try it. In an «Irish» pub however I expect it to be mother’s milk and my expectations are usually met. Not here. The food we had was ok but just that. If you judge a restaurant by how full you feel after a meal you might like it.

Mendocino has a very small downtown area. Patterson is solid busy. We decided to drop in early at around 5pm to beat the crowd. We still had to wait a few minutes. It is a bar. Although their food can go toe to toe with any restaurant in town. Portion wise it’s huge. My Fettucine Alfredo was loaded with grilled chicken and mushroom and richly coated with sauce. Big serving of garlic bread. Served piping hot. $ 23. Be pro active. Grab whatever opens up. So the bar was as good as their tables of four tops and a few two tops. That’s where we enjoyed our meal Beer and wine menu. I had the Boont Amber(Amber Ale) from Boonville. Perfect pair with my Fettucine. Friendly but professional bartender.

The food is good, the drinks are alright, the employees and owners are drama. I received Unilocal messages from the owner first, then subsequently, the employee he threatened to fire because of my one, single review. The original review, itself, WAS four stars and mentioned my displeasure with said employee because of her unfriendly attitude, which actually didn’t stop me from wanting to go back again. Now I never want to go back again. Mission accomplished, Patterson’s.

I love coming to Patterson’s! 1. The Guinness is sublime 2. I share the family name 3. It’s an Irish pub, duh! you know I get weak in the knees Honestly this is my 3rd visit to Patterson’s, always a must when in Mendocino. When I come here I am completely embraced with the down home comfort you normally experience when at your local pub. I don’t know if it’s the warm and cordial environment, or if they treat all passers coming and going equally. Whatever the charm is I love it! The Guinness as I said is delicious — smooth, creamy and perfect every pour. If you’re nice they’ll add a delicate clover in the head of course. Not for everyone though… the other folks at my table didn’t get that. :) Irish. I tell ya The food is NOT standard pub food by any means. Well, it is, but it’s actually quite exceptional for a pub. They always have specials on the board board with everything from Shepherds pie and Lamb chops to Blackberry crumble pie. I saw some people with the nachos, I must try those on the next visit. They looked outstanding! The pub is not large, so be prepared to wait a minute or two for a table. Most I have ever waited was 5 minutes. Sit at the bar and have a pint while you wait. There are 5 T.V.‘s playing any one of the many sports events of the day. The only addition this place could possibly incorporate to be any more fantastic, would be to have some live Irish music playing. Anyone got a Bodhrán?
