So Sad when they closed in Minneapolis ~ but Yea Rah ~ Open In Mendota Heights ~ much closer to my home. I have read the«not good» reviews ~ hopefully the owners and managers will make postive changes ~ we have eaten here several times and had excellant food and service.

Very disappointing! Had eaten several times at the King & I Thai in Minneapolis and was happy that they opened closer to home. To start we were seated and took close to 10 minutes to just take our drink order, we had thought about getting up and going to the Mexican restaurant next store and after finally getting our food I wish we had left. We started with an order of the Cream Cheese rolls, very over-priced, $ 5.95 for 5 very thin rolls filled with minimal cream cheese. I commented that the cream cheese in all 5 rolls would make up the normal cream cheese in a regular cream cheese wonton. Also, they tasted like they were cooked in old, burnt fryer oil. For entrees I had the Chicken Pad Thai, ordered it medium expecting some heat but the only flavor was from chicken that tasted like it was a day or two old and freezer burned. The most bland Pad Thai I have ever eaten. My wife ordered Pad Prik King, turned out to be a very expensive bowl of vegetables and a very oily curry sauce. She described it on the way home as looking like«The Exxon Valdez crashed in her curry sauce». At $ 16.00 it was a very over priced oily dish. This was the second time my wife came, she had a very similar disappointing lunch experience. Very sad to say this is not the same King & I Thai that we had previously enjoyed in Minneapolis.

After the initial cluster that was opening night, this place seems to have gotten their act together(for take-out at least, though we haven’t dined in since day one). We order takeout nearly weekly and it’s superb. Love it!

I had the Pad Thai with shrimp. Okay plate, okay portion okay prices. Isn’t bad, I wouldn’t crave to go back though.

Have always wanted to go here. Now that it’s in Mendota and not Minneapolis it’s much more convenient. Had the Pad Thai and was the best I’ve ever had. Thank you Matt for the excellent service. We will be back soon.

Food was terrible, service was good. He had the shrimp pork spring rolls very crispy but nothing inside the rolls, no flavor. I had the #34 in the menu which is supposed to be there 30 years recipe item, it came in a heavy red sauce, not tasty, shrimp were not cook. Only one thing was good the ginger drink

Very disappointed. Did they forget to bring their recipe book? Wife’s dish was absolutely tasteless. My Pad Thai was missing something only thing I said was it tasted«watered down» if that’s possible. Won’t be around very long without major changes because St Paul has way too many great Thai places!

It was okay. I expected better with all the hype about how great this place was in its old location. I felt the entrees were over priced at $ 16, there was very little meat in the stir-fry and pad thai, and only served high-end craft beer at $ 6. Flavor was fine, nothing fantastic. Service was okay too.

Not the worse Thai food I had but for some over priced Pad Thai and some poor attempt for a seafood salad type dish its definitely up there. Disappointed especially with the location being convient. I would seriously suggest they do some more benchmarking from other Thai restaurant’s and put more effort into their food preparation. Thanks.

We loved the food here. We ordered Spring rolls, calamari and chicken satay for appetizer. Every thing tastes very good. Pineapples fried rice is «to die 4». I like spicy food, basil with walleye is my favorite. Service is good.

Cant tell you what the food is like because the SERVICEWASTERRIBLE. We waited over an hour after we ordered and never got our food; SOWELEFT. Our water was warm with no ice, the waitress told us THREE times our food was on the way, then the manager came over and apologized it was taking so long. When we complained our waters where warm, we had no napkins or silverware, she just laughed and walked away. So a few minutes later I just had all I could take and left. This place is a joke, not one Asian in the place pretty much sums it up. Its in YuppieVille, all white folk that over pay and wait forever I guess because their to lazy to drive into St Paul for decent Thai food &SERVICE.

I actually came back in and dropped it to 3 stars. The food was good but my noodles were a little bland. The servings are large and I’ll be back for another shot! I had the Pad Seyu with beef. The others in my group had the shrimp and really liked it. It’s a little pricey for lunch but you pretty much get 2 servings with the size of the bowls.

We have not eaten yet and are upset already. We made a reservation and arrived a little early. Instead of taking us, people who just walked in were seated BEFORE us. My review will be updated with how the food is after the meal. It better be worth it. We may not be back, just based on this ridiculousness. So, now to the food. We ordered the King and I eggrolls. They came out super hot(my tongue is still bearing the brunt of that fact) and are tasty. The accompanying sauce is much too strong, so use it sparingly. Otherwise, you lose the flavor of the roll altogether. I ordered the mojito mocktail, which was ok, at best. It’s described as having a «kick» because there are supposed to be Thai peppers in the mix. There was no kick and I tasted only mojito mix. My companion had the Two Brothers Red Rye Ale, which he liked. I don’t drink beer, so I can’t say anything more about it. For the mains we had the Garlic Thai Chili with chicken and the Pad Kee Mao with beef. Both were supposed to be four Thai chilies on the heat scale, which is supposed to be hot. Because we eat Thai regularly, we know what the different heat levels are and what we can handle. Typically, a four means you’re eating very slowly because the food is pretty darn hot. The GTC was lacking in garlic, heat and flavor. It was a 1, at best, on the heat scale. Adding the chili sauce from the table gave you heat, but the sweet flavor of it overpowered all else… not worth it. The PKM was a 2 in heat level, at best. It was a much more flavorful dish, so the lack of heat was a bit more forgivable. We used to eat at King and I Thai when they were in Minneapolis and don’t recall having an issue with flavor or heat level. At this point, we’ll have to think long and hard about returning. While it’s location is convenient to us, the level of enjoyment, or lack thereof, doesn’t warrant a return. At times, we are generous and return to a spot once more to see if our experience was a fluke. This review will be updated, should we chance it.

First time here; evidently reopened about 2 weeks prior at this new location. Dishes we had were good. But 5 menu items were already ‘no longer available’ that evening; unusual for an experienced restaurant. Even stranger… my wife ordered Tom Yom soup, one of our favorites that we always order at Kindee in Mpls. Hers was delicious so I ordered one for myself. Mine came out very noticably without enough coconut cream. When the waitress came back with my bowl from the kitchen, she explained that the chef«didn’t want to open another can of coconut cream» so there was nothing they would do. We ended up taking it home & fixing it up ourselves before eating it for lunch the next day. HARDTOBELIEVE! NEVERHEARDOFSUCH A THING! Likely won’t be back.

I don’t write reviews very often, but the King and I Thai really impressed us! Visited the downtown location several times over the years since we’ve moved here and was so happy that they opened nearby. Love their cream cheese rolls where it’s crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside! And the dipping sauce is to die for. Also ordered their pineapple fried rice and pad Thai. Both very satisfying. OMG… What can I say about their peanut sauce! If I can by that by the gallon I definitely would. Creamy and just the right consistency. Not runny or really thick. I’ve recommend this restaurant to all my friends and family. I’ve read other reviews. I had fantastic service and great food when I was there. I understand they just opened may be need a little bit of time to settle in. But wouldn’t deter me from telling everyone to try them out!

I went there yesterday for dinner. Terrible service — we had to wait for over an hour for our food because the waitress had forgotten to put our order in. When we finally got our food, the red pepper sauce, which is supposed to be spicy according to the menu, was bland at best. My girlfriend said it wasn’t even Minnesota spicy, and that’s saying something. The red curry that we ordered was in fact green, and bland again. The egg rolls that we ordered as appetizers were okay. We were offered free ice cream to compensate for our wait but by that point we were frustrated with the whole experience. I am willing to come back in a few months after they’ve figured their stuff out.

It’s hard to quell my nostalgia for the ambiance of the old King and I. Enjoyed #34 again, not sure if it tasted quite the same, but was still very good. Good service and a 15 minute ride at most from South Mpls. We’ll be back again! Not real sure why I got filtered out of the review tabulation. Not enthusiastic enough?

I’m so happy my favorite Thai place is finally reopened ! This is the ONLY real Thai place that does not use MSG. Aside from that the dishes are Authentic and delicious. Cream cheese rolls are just as I remember, creamy, crunchy, but also chewy at the same time. Best pad Thai in town, hands down! I tried quite a few dishes while I was there. But the winner for me is always the HOLYBASILFRIEDRICE. It’s actually spicy and the basil flavor is overwhelming awesome. Best with beef for the protein choice Décor is simple, elegant and reminiscent of the old location. Comfortable seating and a great new neighborhood spot. I will be here more than I need to be. King and I you have my heart and my tummy !

Reopened finally!!! New location in Mendota Heights on HWY110. Just went to King And I Thai for lunch on opening day 7÷15÷15 and it did not disappoint. We stared with the calamari and with was wonderful. Lightly breaded and perfectly cooked. We both ordered a lunch special that was better than expected. The lunch special come with an egg roll and cream cheese roll. I had the Green Curry Chicken and my wife had the Roasted Hot Pepper Sauce with Chicken. Both 5 star dishes but the Roasted Hot Pepper was the star. We had been waiting for this restaurant to open since the spring the our first trip was worth the wait. I hight recommend everyone to give King and I Thai a try!
