I have suffered from severe depression and anxiety for the past 17 years. During this time I have been to countless doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists but I don’t think I ever understood what therapy could do for me until I met Dr Matt May. When I went to see Dr May, I didn’t want to live. I was severely suicidal, had multiple panic attacks daily, was bed-ridden and was on elephantine doses of opiates(for chronic pain /fibromyalgia), sleeping pills, anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medicines. All the doctors I had met so far(which included Heads of Department in Stanford and PAMF) told me that I would probably have to spend the rest of my life on these medicines. Today I am completely medicine free, am working full time and am living a pretty normal, healthy life. And I have no doubt that this would never have happened without Dr Matt May. Dr May focusses on providing patients with tools to help themselves. His focus is not on long-term therapy but on helping his patients get to normalcy and self-reliance as fast as possible. His therapy requires you to be an active participant, and work hard at getting well. It’s not always easy, but it works! And Dr May is always there to help and motivate you through it. No matter how hopeless things seem when I walk into his office, I ALWAYS walk out feeling better. Am I 100% anxiety free now? No. But, as Dr May says, everyone has relapses and he has taught me how to deal with these relapses so each time the frequency and intensity of these are less. All I can say is — thank you, Dr May. You’ve given me my life back!

No, he is NOT helpful. He will take your money, for certain — but with a smile! He does not take medical insurance — prefers out of pocket. Read the previous review — he probably wrote it himself. Who writes a review like that? Obviously a self-advertisement. I went to Dr May, he listened to me cry and perfunctorily allowed me to present my problems. And then he talked, and talked, and talked about theory, recommended books for me to read, made recommendations that are not reality-based — should I tell my co-workers that I am bipolar? — then smiled and showed me the door when the hour was finished. Never called me to check up or follow up afterward. Not once. At a personal cost of $ 300. Don’t believe me? Make an appointment and find out for yourself. But be sure to write a Unilocal review!

Dr. Matthew May is hands down the best Psychiatrist ever! He is a man that truly has a passion for what he does. He is very attentive. caring. and a great listener. From marriage counseling to mood disorders. This man knows his stuff! Unlike many psychiatrists that just want to take your money and dope you up with pills, his approach focuses mostly on finding the root of the problem and trying to work it out with cognitive behavioral therapy. This takes patience and Understanding. Dr. May definitely gets the job done. He genuinely cares and really makes you feel that you are not just another Medical Record Number on his chart. I recommend Dr. May to anyone who really wants a good listener who tries to solve the problem and not just mask it. He will NOT disappoint! He is very flexible with his schedule and accommodating with his patient’s needs. I wish All Physicians had his bedside manner. Thank you Dr. May!
