Smokey J’s Ribshack

Well now, I was pleasantly surprised. I must admit, I didnt pay much attention to the décor, as I was ordering my food to go. The dining area appeared to be quite casual though and was also quite clean.
Now the food. The ribs were very tender, and dry rubbed with a tasty seasoning. Fall of the bone.
.The chicken was cooked perfectly, though the skin was just a tad greasy for me. Still delicious. The sausage was also delish, but it wasnt grilled, which is what I expected for bbq. I ennoyed it nonetheless.
I got the mac n’ cheese, Texas beans, and potato salad for my sides. The Mac n cheese could have used some paprika and salt, as it was bland. Still got 4 starts though because I was there for the Que. The beans… oooohhhh so good. They were sweet though, so if you don’t like your beans with some sweetness, walk away. I really enjoyed them.
The sauce was also sweet with a little tang. I thought it was a perfect sauce, that was consistent with the region’s BBQ flavor. The potato salad… OMG. I was surprised. I dont eat everyone’s salad, but this, oh this tasted like out came straight out of my grammy’s kitchen. I can’t make potato salad like that, and I can cook!!! Very well seasoned, good texture, very good. Its a must try.
And finally, the service. The lil lady at the register was friendly and patient. She was a sweetheart, as she helped me construct the perfect meal platter for the family.

I don’t know exactly how to comment back. I left two reviews the same day bc I just got the app and felt the need to say what restaurants stood out in my mind. I also don’t know the exact day I ate there but I had Smokey J’s as my only meal that day and shortly after I was very ill. Nausea, diarrhea, cramps and chills. I didn’t call bc I was so sick after it happened I honestly didn’t think y’all would care. From the tone of your comment to my review I assume my statement is correct. After that I don’t think I could eat there. Just the thought of what I went through that night was horrible.

Stay away from this place. Microwave BBQ that made me sick. Canned sides and no smoke. Are they boiling this meat? In TX they would string this dude up. BBQ not your thing J maybe tamales on the side of the road is more your style.

The BBQ definitely isn’t the best I’ve ever had but the people working here were really great. I stopped in here after a long day of fishing to grab some brisket and they were really nice folks. The brisket was more on the lean and tough side while the sauce here was very sweet. I might suggest going for the burger over the brisket here.

Stay away from the hot tamales very inconsistent good one terrible all the rest of the time!!!
