I tried for 6 weeks to get my convertible roof replaced at Glass America in Merrillville. I was told they would call me after they ordered the top, which they never did and I was repeatedly told that the Manager was with a customer and he would call me back. Which he never did. Then i go to Merrillville Auto Glass and Trim. They did my top the next week and did an absolutely beautiful job!!! Extremely professional and efficient. Thank you Merrillville Auto Glass and Trim, you know how to treat your customers right!!!

Well, here goes some background you can skip: I have a 911 convertible and it recently suffered some parking damage, administered in a parking garage. Luckily, the culprit was a decent human being and left a note on the seat with contact details. I decided I only wanted certified Porsche mechanics to touch my car and drove it over to Rizza Porsche(other review pending, less glorious). Rizza ultimately fixed that damage under the insurance claim and I also asked them to fix the convertible top which was coming loose under the rear window. They initially came back with a 2500 $ tag for that, which would have been just fixing the rip. After 2+ weeks in enquired and they stated that they also needed an extra new rear window to be put in. Tag would now be 3600 $. Finally another week went by and when I enquired they told me the whole top was too sun-damaged and shrunken to fix: I needed a whole new top, pricetag a cool 4400 $ for everything. Mad from the switch and bait type of behavior and the upselling and stories I decided to find someone else to do it, non-Porsche. The review: So I found this company via my trusty local car-mechanic and gave them a call. They seemed knowledgeable over the phone and explained the type of cloth that was available from Germany(some more soundproof, German vs US etc). Naturally I was nervous about them touching a Porsche since most of their website seemed to show regular convertibles and not my type of car. They assured me they had done Porsche’s before. They also indicated that the complete replacement, with the best top-material, would be 1830 $ with another possible 500 $ if the interior liner needed to be rep[laced too. Either way: half the price of what Porsche charged me. I just picked my car up after 2 weeks and it looks great! The top mechanism works again(these guys are also able to fix hardware) and the job looks great. Its expensive, as is everything Porsche related, but for this type of car it is very reasonable as you can see from competitive bids. They also can give you some good pointers about how to maintain the car properly. Anyways, so for an excellent job, fast and clean with only one minor issue that cost a star: there was some marking pencil streaking on the leather seat and I cannot seem to wipe it off fully. Otherwise a good company to bring your(pedigrree or classic or regular) convertible for both hardware as well as software.
