You know, as a Unilocaler, I enjoy finding new places to love. I’ve been perusing Jeff’s creole grill on Unilocal for a long time before I decided to take a chance and try it. Being that it’s fairly close to home, I didn’t mind giving it a shot. It’s located in the Rouses parking lot, next to a PETSHOP… I was hesitant. Nevertheless, they have an advertised $ 13.95 steak special night. Who could ruin a steak right? Wrong. The interior reminds me of a restaurant similar to those seen on kitchen nightmares. Outdated décor, paper over the tables so they don’t have to wipe it down, small wait staff. Now on to the food, the steak special comes with a wedge salad, green beans, a baked potato, and a steak(not ribeye). It looked okay, for the price. Until I tried everything. The salad was smothered in a cup of dressing. The green beans tasted like they were just boiled. The baked potato tasted like it was boiled yesterday and left to sit under a heat lamp. The«loaded» was a ¼ stick of butter and a giant dollop of sour cream wedged between the potato. The steak… oh boy… the steak. I think I wanted to rip my teeth out of my mouth the steak was so chewy. So all in all, I was begginjng to regret my decision of coming here. My companion and I ate in silence, for he didn’t want to upset me by complaining about my dining choice. Until…the unthinkable happened!!! As he was cutting into his steak(halfway through) he noticed a dark string like substance moving underneath the steak. ITWAS A HAIR!!! UNDERNEATH!!! A HAIR! I almost wanted to barf, and I typically don’t get freaked out about hair. What freaked me out was that it was clinging to the bottom of his steak the whole time. The«chef» came out to apologize — a younger, husky, guy with you guessed it — a mane of unruly hair… I wonder how it ended up on the plate . Of course, my waiter was embarrassed and comped his steak, but I for one was not impressed with the quality of the food. BECAUSE, had it not been for the Wednesday special, the prices for this joint run quite high, I would not have wanted to order anything else on the menu.

My companion and I stopped in on a whim. We shop for groceries next door and had wanted to try this restaurant for a long time. Staff is very friendly. Place is decorated nicely for the holidays right now. Nice holiday music playing. My companion had fried oyster appetizer and pecan fried catfish special. Large portions and all was eaten! :) :) Companion said best tasting he’s had in a long time. Now for my food. I ordered bourbon chicken special with green beans and mac&cheese. Waiter misunderstood and came out with bourbon glazed pork chops and potatoes. No problem, he apologized and brought out what I ordered shortly. I found the glaze to be too tangy like bbq sauce & not«bourbonny» tasting at all. Mac&cheese was pretty good, green beans just OK(companion said needed salt). So the best thing I enjoyed was the Toasted Almond drink I had with meal.(Amaretta, Kahlua and Half and Half over ice.- Deeeelish!) Might try again on Steak night or Oyster Night, but I was not impressed enough with regular menu for the price.

Menu description stated grilled redfish with jumbo lump crabmeat. The fish was delicious but instead of local jumbo lump, the fish was topped with small pieces of pasteurized crabmeat. Very disappointing.

Yummy food and HUGE portions– even the martini I ordered was served with an extra glass because it was too big to fit all in the first one. I had the Chicken and Sausage Pastalaya and it was reallllly good. Would definitely go back the next time I’m in town.

As I’m writing this review I am sitting on hold trying to place a order with this restaurant. So far I have been on hold for 7:00. It’s not that their busy the lady picked up the phone told me to hold on and put the phone back down. I can hear them talking in the background. If I ever had someone at my Business leave a customer on hold this long they’d be out the door… Now it’s been 9:00. It’s almost funny now. I’ve been waiting almost ten minutes to order a buffalo chicken wrap. I could have gone to a fast food restaurant and already been eating my burger by now. Instead I’m waiting on hold trying to order from a local business. Still on hold… I’m going to screen shot this and post it so that you can see how long I’ve been on hold. 10 mins now.

Jeff’s has an attractive exterior(in a strip mall), and the small interior and bar area are also beautifully designed, with oil paintings of New Orleans locations. Our waiter was friendly and did a good job. I ordered the Fried Shrimp Plate, and my companions ordered and shared a Seafood Platter. The meals came with an enjoyable wedge salad. We agreed that the fries were over salted, but the batter on the seafood was perfect, really– nicely seasoned and not the least bit greasy. Also, the portions on the dinner plates were rather huge. All of us stated that we loved it and would return. RJT

Food was excellent. Long wait for barely anyone in the restaurant. The waiter lagged in helping us and lacked customer service skill. Better waitstaff and I’d probably go back.

Had a second job back in New Orleans so just had to bring my co-workers to Jeff’s to have them try the food and see what they thought. Well it’s from everyone. Service, food and price hit all the right marks. So if you in New Orleans/Metairie. Stop Jeff’s for some great food and good service. You won’t be disappointed!

Service was excellent. Seafood platter really good w/sweet potato fries(don’t get the jambalaya). Shrimp poboy was nonexistent on my cousin’s plate really quickly so I’m guessing it was pretty damn good too.

Jeff’s was a great restaurant that I would love to be able to return to when I’m in New Orleans again. We had just finished a few regional beers at Lager’s up the street so I decided to try the sangria. The beer selection is standard restaurant fare. Choosing sangria was the best random selection of the entire trip. It was amazing and not just because I’d had a few brews beforehand. So amazing that the wife drank most of it and she is quite selective about Sangria. As usual, I couldn’t decide between the different fish entrees. Talking with the waiter, he pointed out that one I was considering is an every day menu item, the other a special that he himself has when it makes a brief appearance on the menu. I ran with that and was very happy! I’ve had nut encrusted fish before but this one was awesome. The nuts were not chopped too small so you had a good mouth feel contrast between the well done soft and flakey fish and the crunchier Pecans. Service was attentive but not obtrusive as well as helpful. The restaurant itself was nice inside. Not too dark. The location, being in a mall next to a pet shop was odd but not an issue. Overall, a very pleasant dinner! We’ll be back when we’re visiting New Orleans again.

Add my review tothose who really like this place.(Thanks to Unilocal’s other reviewers for recommending it to me.) It was a surprise to me also, in that it looks pretty nondescript from the outside. I had the catfish po-boy(pictured) and it was delicious. Served nicely too.

You hardly ever see me giving out 5-stars. They’re like the congressional Medal of Honor. You have to have perfect food and star service to go with it. Well aside from Brunings(which was destroyed in west end by Katrina) this is one of my new faves. I had the opportunity to inadvertently meet the wait staff that was posting a sign of Christmas date closures, combined with the catering menu you could pick up if cooking was a hassle. This place is really a diamond in the rough. The interior is beautiful, the bar is magnificent, the cooking is incredible, the service is dynamite. If you come to New Orleans and don’t like this place something is wrong. I found it to be «delightful», and wish I could eat here every day. It’s incredible in every aspect, just look through the photos and you will see. A picture is worth 1000 words and this place is flat-out awesome. *****

They have some good prices on their daily lunch specials and do nightly dinner specials like a steak night and oyster night. At lunch the service is very fast as I’ve never been here when there are more than a handful of folks here. Definitely a spot to grab a quick lunch. The burgers are decent and they have a good selection of other items to choose from but I find their fish dishes to be overpriced and on the very expensive side for the area.

Excellent fish. I had a chef special of red fish, crab, and wine sauce, with grilled vegatables. The place looks a bit seedy from outside, but very pleasent inside. Very few classic(tourist) dishes. I actually came in for shrimp creole, and … o well. Food is 18 – 25 per person. Very good service.

This place is awesome. It is very small, tucked in a corner next to a supermarket. The food is excellent! The menu is extensive, so we plan on making many more visits to try more dishes. On our last visit, the chef came into the dining area to talk with the patrons… nice touch!
