This place inspires me to start a list of NOLA/Metairie businesses that smell like pee. I admit, I judged this book by its mightily frayed cover. I’m not a fan of post-apocalyptic parking lots. I hated 1980’s strip malls when it was 1980. I still do. Situated right next to the world’s largest Chuck-e-Cheese I was sure I wouldn’t be staying long. So I hopped out and headed in and, WOW. Fabric for days. They had other things but the fabric/notions, etc. dominated the store. What I loved: The selection and the prices. What I didn’t: It smelled like pee. What could help: Management/schedulers could close the door to the office and lower voices when badmouthing the staff. Will I go back? I’d pay more for something closer so it is looking like Hobby Lobby will be my spot for now. But if I ever get in a tight spot and don’t mind the drive, I won’t fight it!

Store was nice. Pretty small from what I’m used to. I was looking for a very specific fabric and asked the lady who was cutting fabric, she looked sick because she kept wiping her nose with a tissue,(who at the time wasn’t doing anything) she responded oh you’re probably looking for a lemme. I said yes. She said they’re over there by the sparkle material. Didn’t walk over with me, didn’t really specify where she meant just pointed then another customer walked up so she proceeded to cut fabric. I felt like I wasn’t valued as a customer. I came on my lunch break because I know the quality of joanns but never again. On the upside a employee did hold the door open for me when I walked in. I appreciated that.

Probably some of the worst to-your-face customer service I’ve ever encountered. Slow doesn’t even begin to describe the pace in the store. It’s a shock the employees actually are breathing most of the time. But when they show signs of life, they are generally fairly rude. Sometimes I wonder if I’d prefer be completely ignored or talked to like an ignorant fool. Usually these questions occur when I’m shopping at Joann’s. Then I wonder why I ever come back… every single time. They are SUPER close to my house, otherwise I wouldn’t ever set foot in this store the 2 – 3 times a year I wind up finding myself in the midst of another miserable shopping experience.

This store never has the items that I need even though the website shows it in stock and that the inventory is updated daily. The staff her is less than helpful. They always seem over worked and too busy to help. I have been told on several occasions that they would check on something and get back to me never to get a phone call and the last time I spoke with a manager and was told she was too busy to do this now. If any of their competition had the items I would go there. I know I can order but sometimes you need it now.

I find myself here several times a year. Either a costume, or some other crafty project that I am working on, for which I need something that might be found in this sort of fabric/notions/crafty store. If you have a coupon double check to make sure the item isn’t already on sale as they will not honor a 50% off coupon if the product is on a 30% off sale. «Can’t you ring it up at the original price and then use the coupon?» I asked. NO is the answer. So the last time I was in and had 4 yards of fabric in hand, I ended up leaving without the potential new curtains I planned on making. hmmp.

This is where I go to scoop up my fabrics, trimmings, and costume embellishments, i.e. feathers/pom poms balls/etc. From a voodoo doll to togas, to lining my kitchen… I’ve found a fun variety of fabrics and things, and have been able to use their text message coupons(which they usually remind you about). The staff is usually very sweet, and always asks what I’m working, albeit it’s not the Indy 500 here. There is a woman that has been there damn near forever, and she’s great, but unfortunately, not all of her staff is as on point when it comes to customer service. The other day the credit card machine wasn’t working well, and while a customer mentioned that her card better not be charged multiple times, the woman working the register, while nice, was less reassuring about that not happening, and mentioned about getting off soon. One of my pet peeves when it comes to customer service is when an employee mentions getting off work in front of customers during a situation like that. This isn’t your one stop craft shop, they don’t have paint pens and for a wider variety of things other than fabrics, in regards to crafts, you’ll have to make another craft store pit stop, but they’re great to browse and I really do like their range of fabrics so I will continue to pop in come DIY costuming time.

i am not a crafter, but i have the sewing genes from my mother, aunties, and grandmother. i was raised by quilters, sewers, hardonger(sp?), cross-stitch, and almost any kind of sewing you can imagine. Every so often, I like to buy material to make a Satin Lei, or something else that is «crafty.» Jo-Ann sends coupons via e-mail, plus they always have coupons online. The service is spectacular, and everyone has always been friendly when i have visited the store. I just wish there was one a little closer to me. But, perhaps in a few years. In fact, I am on my way there now!

I spent plenty of time in a Boston area Joann’s and this store is so far below that standard that it’s hard to believe it’s part of the same company. Mostly due to the customer service. Horrible customer service. That’s all.

One of the few fabric/notions stores left in the GNO. The fabric selections are not awesome… mostly poly-cotton blends in bright colors. If you’re working on a kids project then you’ll do OK. They do have a lot of other crafting supplies though. Stuff I have bought here? Mostly notions, a pack of throw pillows in assorted sizes, foam, and most recently cording to make curtain tie backs. The staff was surprisingly helpful so +1 star. Double bonus? Two ladies pouring over the pattern books and discussing what they were planning to make. Nice throwback to my Granny.

I go here more than I should due to the fact that I age at least five years per visit. Yes, the other reviewers are correct. They are S-L-O-W times infinity. So slow that it can be downright painful. But, they are nice. And, if you’re willing to participate in an exercise in patience, they can be helpful. When they want to be. Just gotta wait for it. They have a decent selection of fabric but not much in the way of crafts. You can always download a 50% off coupon to your phone, another plus. But, yeah, Jo-Ann’s I really wish you’d hurry up. Just a little.

I had to update my opinion of this store: it’s not very cool here. They have a small selection, and some items are more expensive. see my review of the other Jo-anns in the area:

Today, I bought 100 pieces of felt fabric. The cashier rang them up. One. By. One. Seriously. Do you know how long this took? Every single piece of felt had to be scanned. Individually. Because her manager said she needed to scan each item. Each. F*cking. Item. Yep. I mean, props to her for the whole respect for authority and doing as instructed, but I can’t imagine the 15 people who eventually ended up behind us in line were particularly impressed. ***Pro-Tip: They have a text message coupon thing where you send a text and get 20% off. So that was kind of cool. +1 star***

I will give this Joann’s three stars. This location is definitely the better choice. I have been known to venture to the other location and stood and waited for almost an hour to have something cut. The workers here are pleasant, the selection is equal to just about any joanns, and the coupons can’t be beat!

Every time I’m here, it’s an exercise in patience. These gals are not here to be of service. They’ll go out of their way to ignore you. Just help me out and you’ll expend less energy.

Admittedly, I don’t know much about notions and things. I’m more likely to use a stapler to mend outfits, and I have. But, I came here to get some sheer black ribbon for a masquerade party, Marie Antoinette. Get it? Anyway, it was a week before Halloween and they were a little low on stock. And the line was incredibly long, they were busy. People were complaining. But since there isn’t really anywhere else for this kind of stuff, we must suck it up.

Located in a dumpy strip mall, Joann Fabric is probably one of the better fabric stores. It’s for people who sew and has minimal craft products. It’s a big corporate chain and you can get some okay deals if you use their weekly coupons.
