Not sure why this place was empty while we were there from 5 – 6:30pm but we were the only table there. First time here. Was originally going to go to Kanno but they were closed and we happen to drive by Ohana and glad we did. The sushi was oh so delicious and fish was fresh. Our server jenny was sweet and attentive. Wasn’t overbearing. They had wine, beer, and sake buy one get 2nd for 99 cent. And if you spend $ 55 of more you get $ 10 off your tab. We’ll be back to try out the sushi pizza!

Hot pot was pretty good. We had the hot and spicy broth with rib eye and seafood combo. The soba noodles are extra but really good. For 18.99 you get the ribeye and a tray of veggies and udon. Not bad. And buy one get one for 99 beer and hot sake!

This place was pretty empty upon arriving but that could be due to the inclement weather that’s been torrential and rainy all day. We were greeted by staff and the sushi chef which is a good way to start our first time coming here. The décor of the place was nice, very modern and has big flat screen to watch the news or whatever sports game. So far so good. Food: so I’ve been reading from my fellow Unilocalers that the sushi pizza is a must try so we most def ordered that along with the duck fried eggrolls for starters. we really liked the sushi pizza. it’s crispy and flavorful with pieces of mango that gives you a refreshing taste to the salmon. btw, you can do either tuna or salmon or both! my love picked the salmon which was perfect bc salmon and mango pair well together. they drizzle it with a sauce so it’s not just straight up raw fish on top of a crispy, circular«pizza.» for the entrée, my bf picked beef pad Thai and a sushi roll which I’ve forgotten what the name of it is however I’ve got pics so that should help. haha! i liked the pad Thai, the roll was nothing too special to me and it’s prob bc my partner refuse to eat anything with fried shrimp inside so we were limited, I feel, with choosing rolls. The manager and the server came and checked on us and made sure we were okay, so service was spot on. The server was really sweet, too. I didn’t have any issues when dining in here. i wish I were able to try different rolls other than the usual bc what we had didn’t wow me but it’s quite alright. we enjoyed our stay.

Not impressive at all. A lot of sushi was deep fried and seaweed salad was store bought. Tea was served with sugar which says it all. Disappointing.

Love this place. Always friendly staff. I enjoy sitting at the bar for lunch. I like how you can have your rolls made with brown rice. I didn’t care for the edamame. I LOVE the Tom yum soup. It’s spicy and hot and fresh every time. Definitely a place I would Recommend.

This place is AWESOME and I don’t see how it wasn’t busier when we went! There were four of us and we shared a bunch of appetizers and sushi plus we all had entrees(yeah, we pigged out!) and everything was delicious and fresh. Service was fast & friendly and the inside is modern & clean!

«A man should never be ashamed to own that he has been in the wrong, which is but saying… that he is wiser today than yesterday.» Jonathan Swift And nothing in my life symbolizes that quote more than Ohana right now. Being the type of person who always tries everything at least twice, I tried Ohana again. And had some of the best service in my life. The restaurant is still beautiful; rolls still fresh. The difference is that my tastes have completely changed. As a meat eater/omnivore, my experience with Ohana still stands. There’s lots of restaurants that make great Rock & Rolls and Dragon Rolls. Cheaper and bigger. However, as a new vegetarian, I’m now realizing how difficult it is to find good sushi restaurants in New Orleans. Whose vegetarian sushi menu doesn’t consist of just the vegetable roll. Luckily for Ohana, they’ve got a pretty big selection: 6 to be exact. And all the rolls are good and filled with avocado creaminess. They took pride in experimenting with the flavors and textures to ensure that you’re not bored eating their rolls. Their avocado and peanut roll has become one of my favorites. As well as their full-bodied miso soup. Best of all, their servers anticipate your needs. Drinks were refilled without question. And meat-filled sauces were left off.(Because my friend and I only ordered vegetarian stuff, the server left off the eel sauce which normally comes on the sweet potato rolls. For someone learning a new system of ordering at restaurants and all the different questions you have to ask, it’s so REFRESHING to go to a place where the onus of dietary restrictions aren’t just on the customer. It’s also the responsibility of the restaurant to NOT list dishes which include meat products under Vegetarian Dishes.) Ohana understands this. And I’m eternally grateful. So thank you Ohana for showing me the errors of my ways. PS: I loved literally eating my words.

We tried this place for the first time tonight. We arrived and found good parking out front. We were greeted at the door and given our choice of a table or booth. The décor is modern and well done. The restaurant was extremely well done and clean. The menu was nice and they had tons of selections. We ordered drinks and they kept the refills flowing through out the meal. We started with a clear soup and noodle salad. Both were excellent and the presentation was great. We next had a sashimi mix pizza. It was AMAZING and so much fun. We ordered a Dancing Roll, Dynamite Roll, Crunchy Roll and Rainbow Roll. All the rolls came with great presentation and they tasted perfect. We ordered the Rainbow Roll with crabmeat instead of a crab stick. They got that wrong and it took a few minutes to correct. The server apologized multiple times. This place came very close to give starts. After a few return visits I may bump it up. If you love sushi it is worth the try. The price reflects the presentation, service, quality and ingredients.

Great Sushi, highly recommend! Went there for lunch and ordered a miso soup, a crawfish roll and a thunder roll. The crawfish roll was above average, the miso soup was bland. BUT… The Thunder Roll was Awesome. It was soybean paper, I like nori to this just happened to be bean paper, avocado tempura shrimp and a chopped lobster salad. The tempura shrimp was excellent, and the lobster salad was really good, however it just tasted like that snow crab mixture but with a lobster texture. It was topped with eel sauce and like a mango pepper jelly. It was sooooo good. The next time I go out to eat sushi with the family. That’s where I’m going!

I intentionally tried to eat Kanno, but it was closed on this Sunday I went. So. I decided to give Ohana a try. I had the mixed sashimi pizza, salmon avocado salad, chicken lettuce wrap, and 2 simple rolls: eel roll and spicy mango shrimp roll. I’m not impressed by anything I ordered other than the mixed sashimi pizza. I felt like everything I ordered was pricey for the amount I got, except the sashimi pizza again. I go to a good bit of sushi restaurants and for the price I pay, I’m usually offered a great portion. And if not portion, a great satisfaction to my taste. I can’t get over how small the sushi rolls are. Honestly, I felt cheated. Everything probably would have been better if the portions were bigger or if the menu was less pricy.

first off, ohana has toro. FINALLY somewhere in the area has the gusto to carry toro. and it was great. i was not too impressed with the yellowtail though. i feel like i got the end of a piece. the waitress was very, how should i say, blunt??? she did not enter my order correctly, so i didn’t get exactly but i wanted — and i would have said something but i just really didn’t give a shit enough to send it back. would have been more effort than i felt like putting forth. ohana is near my work so i’ll give it another shot; however, i might take a highlighter to make sure i get what i order.

There’s nothing«ohana» about this place. I don’t think they know what Ohana means. Well, at least they spent $$$ on decorating the place since the food and service was lacking. The gyoyza was small. The miso soup lacked flavor. The rice in the sushi wasn’t the best and definitely not sushi rice. The service was horrible. I asked for a Sapporo and she looked confused. We ordered the sushi combo for two that included«chef’s special» but no one could tell us what that is. There are several chef’s special listed in the menu but the combo comes with the cheapest one. We really wanted to try the dessert but didn’t want to take the chance.

I would drop from 4 stars that I gave in my previous review to 2 stars after my recent dining experience but I feel bad for them so I’ll leave it at three and call it a 2 ½ star restaurant. We went for lunch yesterday. I bragged about how good it was the first time when I went after they first opened. We were there for lunch at 12:30 and were the only customers. Not a good sign for the health of a business… We were in a hurry and the waitress was quick so that is a bonus. We both tasted our miso soups and had to add soy sauce because they were flavorless. She got the lunch roll combo. Something with spicy tuna and crunchy in one roll and I cannot remember the other roll but she didn’t like either. Not only did they not look appealing but I tasted the spicy tuna and it was not good. I got the sashimi lunch and it came with 3 pieces of fatty tuna, 3 pieces of salmon and 3 pieces of escolar. The tuna and salmon didn’t look very appealing and tasted like they were at the end of their shelf life. The presentation was still very nice in the white bowls with crushed .ice and a light ball underneath and all sorts of decorations around the sushi. The actual restaurant is really nicely done and it is apparent that they spent a lot of money on the build out. Sadly, it doesn’t appear that they are doing too well if we were the only customers during prime lunch hour during the week… There are two other sushi restaurants right across the street. The highly touted Kanno and some new place that I don’t remember the name. They are going to need to step up their game if they are going to survive with such stiff competition.

I stopped here with a friend on the way back BR and after eating here, I’m glad we did. This place seems relatively new. The place looks very modern and clean. It definitely has a nice ambiance to it. The staff was very friendly and the service was prompt. One of the most impressive things about Ohana was the sushi plating. It was impressive to say the least. As for the food it was excellent. This is a great place to bring a vegetarian as they have vegetarian rolls and some vegetarian items on the menu. If you find yourself in Metarie and want some sushi, I don’t think you could go wrong by giving this place a try.

Mixed Sashimi Pizza(12 $). Crafted dish that was mindlessly thrown together and not cared about. I would’ve enjoyed something drenched in less sauce. Pretty heavy appetizer and a decent amount of sashimi. Pizza needed some type of kick, maybe less eel and a dot of siracha on each slice? Fresh Salmon Sashimi(12 $). Essentially, I paid more for the same quality and quantity I could’ve gotten anywhere on the Westbank. This disappoints me. Tropical Roll(15 $) — yellowtail jalapeño wrapped around spicy tuna and avocado with crunchy. They do a great job at making this roll sound a little extra fancy but it’s puny and overpriced. Sunkist Roll(14 $) — spicy snowcrab, avocado, wrapped with salmon and shrimp. Special sauce is what I would call a sweet and sour sauce. Another item I wish I passed on. The spicy«kani» was not spicy at all. Not even a tongue tickler! First and foremost, I am always happy to pay a premium for quality ingredients. However, I left very disappointed! I can find the same quality dishes anywhere in the Westbank for a fraction of the price. I feel like a sushi snob but as far as modern goes. I don’t feel as if any of the ingredients are unique or different. I’m rating this restaurant two stars mainly because the quality of the food does not match the price! If you want to charge me 15 $ for a roll please make it worth while. Use fresher ingredients! I hate to say this but there’s Kanno, across the street, that is an epic sushi restaurant. Using unique quality ingredients(EX: lump crab meat) for the same price.

My second trip to Ohana was less amazing so I will have to bump my review down. The hawiian roll is outstanding. Coconut shrimp with cream cheese and mango. I ventured off the sushi menu and ordered the szechuan chicken. I hated it, so much that I couldnt eat it. The bite sized chicken were rubbery and the coating was grainy. The chicken lacked flavor. All I could taste was a burnt taste in the background. The«vegetables» is minimal minced bell pepper. Luckily, my boyfriend is a simple eater and sweet enough to give me his dish to eat. Pineapple fried rice with shrimp was tasty. Thai style fried rice with cashews and rasins in it. Not great but good.

Nothing but great things to say about this place so far. Although I’ve only been once so far, we tried a few different things from the menu and I was very pleased. We had the egg rolls, squid steak, and seafood curry. Finding a great sushi restaurant in Metairie is nothing unique, but finding a great sushi restaurant that also serves amazing curry certainly is! I’m looking forward to going back and trying out more of their expansive menu options. By the way, the fried banana dessert is certainly worth the extra stomach room :-)

Coming from Hawaii I was so skeptical about trying sushi here in NOLA, so after 7 months of living here I finally decided to go for it. With all these options I did not know where to go, my first choice was closed, so I went with a place that was new so I could make a fair opinion not clouded by others. And of course I pick a place with a Hawaiian name, «Ohana». I must definitely say that this was a great experience and a nice lunch. Ohana is a fusion of mostly Japanese and Chinese with other Asian hints here and there. I mainly wanted sushi when coming here so I ordered 3 different rolls. I got the Dancing Roll, the Ohana Dream, and Sunkist. They were all very delicious, but I think the Ohana Dream was my favorite because of the Unagi. Literally anything with Unagi is going to be amazing to me. Each plate had the right amount of pieces and the presentation was nice as well. For appetizers I ordered the pork dumplings and a small hot/sour soup. These were also very delicious! The décor is modern, simple, and very very clean. It seems to be a bit classier than other restaurants out there, so you should probably dress pretty nice when coming. Prices are reasonable, with your bill going to be about $ 20 — $ 30 a person if you order a nice amount. They do have awesome lunch specials and bento boxesfor about $ 10 a person. I will definitely have to come back again and try one of those! The service is friendly, though my waitress had a little language barrier since she could not figure out if I wanted«Asahi» or «Sake», but she got it in the end. My only little issue was that since we sat on a table, all of the food we ordered did not exactly fit on it. The plates they use are really large and if you order more than 4 things you will probably run into space issues, so maybe a booth would be better. Other than that, Ohana is a great new place to try. Come for a nice dinner date or grab a lunch. Thumbs Up!
