Nice little bake shop across from the NJ transit train station. Maybe it’s because I ordered beforehand and picked up everything in the morning but the baked goods were anything but unfresh as many of the other reviewers claimed. They were also very reasonably priced. I was able to get 5 donuts and 5 muffins for under $ 12. The pastries themselves were delicious and everyone in the office loved them. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the inside seems a little unhygienic in general. Maybe it’s because the building is old but the area where the pastries were put on display seemed old and decrepit and the area where you got your self-served coffee was a mess. Overall though I would go back to this place again for my bakery needs.

Cute bakery in Metuchen. I was so happy to see they were open 7AM on a Sunday morning when I stopped by. There is street parking however if you can’t find any, they’re right across from a public parking lot. There is no outdoor seating and the store is easy to locate. Inside they only have two tables so it’s more of a quick stop or pick-up store. Apart from their delicious baked goods, they also sell milk, juice, butter and cream cheese on the side. They have a lot of options and it’s very eye catching with the great decorations! Some of their options are small cakes, decorated cookies, chocolate covered pretzels, tarts, bagels, etc. You can use credit card however there is a $ 10 minimum. They also have a great deal: 12 mini pastries for only $ 10! I got a coffee and donut from here. The coffee was make your own and I did not enjoy it at all unfortunately. However, their donut on the other hand was okay. The icing was flavored well however because the donuts may have been outside, I had some bites where the donut felt a little stale. Their tarts look good so I’m hoping it’ll turn out better!

Best donuts around– go in the morning when they’re still a little warm and grab a glazed one.(Then head over to Brewed Awakening and grab a cup of coffee. Combine the two. You’re welcome.) Pastries and cakes are average to very, very good, and crumb cake is a winner. Occasionally a pastry will taste a little stale but I’ve never had anything that’s been completely awful. Their bread and rolls are probably the best on the block, and everything is really well priced. Stop in if you need a fix!

Stopped in for a two cupcake, Napoleon and a mocha cake after living in the area seeing it getting off at NJT Metuchen stop and wanting to try something new on Main St. I really wanted some ice cream from WTS but decided to go in a new direction; mistake number one. Carrot cake cupcake was stale and dry; so dry that it crumbled a lot just trying to eat it. Icing was semi-hard so I’m guessing it wasn’t fresh; like maybe yesterday fresh not this morning fresh. The Napoleon tasted spoiled, was soggy and inedible. Chocolate cupcake was OK. The mocha cake was disgusting; had the Napoleon not been spoiled this would have been the worst of the bunch. So basically what looked like a treat was anything but. Maybe it was the time of day having gone in the afternoon but based on this experience I wouldn’t recommend or go back. 1 out of 4 pastries was barely OK; 1 tasted at least a day old, the other 2 definitely were way off and had a spoiled /sour taste.

Donuts are way better than the ones from DD — plus they are half price after 5 pm(if there are any left). Apple turnovers are huge and loaded with apples. Too bad I don’t live closer — I would be there every day!

Cute little bakery. Stopped in here since 2 Chicks with Chocolate was closed. Lots of artificially colored goodies and some chocolate treats on display. I picked up a b&w cookie for hubby and he enjoyed it. It’s affordable too. Check it out if you’re in the area!

Disappointed on the Chocolate Red Velvet. Butter Cream frosting tasted off, cake was stale.

I had purchased a groupon for this bakery. It was expired but like groupon says, you are able to redeem the voucher for the value you purchased it for. First, the lady claimed«she does not how group on works». Second, she claimed that«they no longer are accepting groupon vouchers». Third, when I asked her if she could simply write a message on the cake, she said«no. I can’t do that». I managed to talk my way into making her understand the deal and paid the amount due but the service was uncalled for. Rude does not even begin to describe the service at the bakery in Metuchen on Main Street.

I used to like a certain cake from here. But now the staff is extremely rude. Went in there and they couldn’t even speak proper English. This place just lost a customer.

This bakery offers a selection of European baked goods(Napoleon, eclairs, etc.) at decent prices. Bought a large chocolate cannoli and a slice of marble cake for $ 3.50 total. Butter cookies are the best!

As a trained pastry chef, I’m always a sucker for bakeries, especially good mom and pop ones. Reading past reviews of this place have turned me off to come here even if it happens to be right next door to the dance school my little one goes to. However, since it went through a makeover of some sorts, and new management, I thought it would be a great time to go. When you wall in its bright, colorful, and inviting. Kids will love it cause all the cookies and pastries are frosted with big bright colors. Visually the baked goods are arranged nicely and look appetizing. They also seem to do a good job rotating or making sure everything looks fresh. Pet peeve is to buy something that’s stale and tastes old. So since it was morning I settled with the crumb bun. I was impressed being that they sell the German style, which is butter and yeast based with tons of topping. It was fresh, moist and buttery! The only thing I wished they had was better coffee to compliment this tasty treat. Note to all the local bakeries out there. GOOD coffee makes a big difference and just that can bring you extra traffic for your business just on coffee sales alone. I know your next to Brewed Awakenings, but still you are entitled to provide decent coffee at best. Overall a positive experience, would have liked to seen some more upscale product, but feel maybe that’s not their model or approach. Great for kids and good for that early morning sweet treat if bagels or sandwiches are not for you that day. Solid 3 stars from me.

I just don’t understand the good reviews for this place. I’ve been there three times(because I bought a 3 Groupon package, I would have otherwise never gone back), so you can’t say it was just an «off» day. Everything I’ve had, from muffins(they don’t make chocolate chocolate chip muffins :/) to pastries to cake, tastes very old and stale. And the woman argued with me about redeeming my expired Groupon. Everyone knows they’re still worth what you paid, just not the extra promotional value. I showed her where it says that on the Groupon and she still argued with me.

So I went with 2 cake pops and a piece of carrot cake. The chocolate cake pop was amazing, and the first thing I tried, so I was super pumped. Unfortunately, the red velvet cake pop was mushy in the center, almost like it didn’t cook, and made me nervous I was going to get sick. The carrot cake was very light, and I’m more of a dense carrot cake fan, so I wouldn’t get that again. My suggestion, lots of chocolate cake pops.

Get the blueberry crumb muffin! You won’t be disappointed on so many levels. I’ve stopped by a few times on my way to the train and started with the zucchini muffin(recommended by a fellow Unilocaler, loved it, and decided to eventually hit them all. The service is super quick and everything is affordable — it’s just greatness wrapped in butter and sugar :)

I usually stop in and grab 2 sprinkle cookies whenever I have to go to Metuchen. It’s one of the only enjoyable parts of my day and they are pretty good. I’ve had the marble cookies a couple of times but sometime they don’t seem to taste all that great. All of their food is fairly inexpensive and the employees are always friendly. It’s a decent small town bakery.

Located in downtown Metuchen, parking can be sometimes hard to find but I really enjoy this bakery. While the bakery itself is small, there is a large variety of breads, pastries, cookies, cakes, etc. Price is VERY reasonable and after certain special events or holidays they have discounted goodies. My favorite is the black and white cookie. IMO, while not mind blowing, this place is much cheaper than other bakeries in the area.

The cookies are bland. And the girl put the mushy chocolate ones in the same bag with the rest so it was a big smear of bland chocolate over bland Italian-style cookies.

I’ve been to the Buttery Bake Shoppe’s sibling store in Cranford so I was quite excited to find this one while exploring Main Street in Metuchen. This one is a bit smaller than the other one(not by much) but it has a similar layout. You walk in and there’s a wide open area in the middle and you’re basically surrounded by glass cases with everything from cakes to pies to cookies and more! It’s almost dizzying to see the variety of baked goods here and the *smell* is amazing. It’s like you’re inhaling sweetness and being hugged by buttery goodness. I ordered my favorite type of butter cookies with jelly inside and covered in chocolate at one end. I also picked up some leaf shaped cookies, my second favorite from bakeries such as these. The butter cookies were amazing, just as good as those in the other store. They crumbled nicely in my mouth and they had just the right amount of savory and sweet to make a perfect treat. The leaf cookies were an unexpected treat. Normally they are sweet with only a touch of savory flavor, but these had some salt integrated into them enhancing both flavor profiles, making them simply amazing! The young lady who helped me was very patient and answered some of the questions I had about their other baked goods. I’m definitely interested in going back soon!

Everything is great, but I would really recommend the croissants — I bought one with earl grey tea one time for just $ 1.50. Delicious and affordable!
