I had taken my daughter to opthomologist in building, and due to a 3.5 hour wait, we had no choice but to grab lunch here(cafeteria in same building), as it was almost 2 pm and going to grab car and finding a place to eat would have taken at least another 20 mins. I purchased a platter from chicken grill(or kitchen) forget which one it was, and the food(as per my husband) was gross. Chicken was chewy and dark meat. The beans tasteless, and the rice hard. He was so hungry, that ended up eating it, but at $ 8, I really felt for him. I ordered a salad which looked like the«safest» thing to order… I mean… How do you mess up a salad bar, well these peoe did. The chunks of onion were huge, the added a huge amount of blu cheese which ruined the whole salad. Despite it being a salad bar, they serve it for you, and the price is unbelievable, they charge PER topping, and extra for protein. Total rip off, specially since they even know how to make items proportionate, so that they go well once placed in salad together. Also ordered a potato soup. So nasty! It tasted like fish, why? beats me! Aside from the above, we also got a wrap(figured my husband could eat half, and my daughter the other half). The woman working this section was not very polite, and she kept shouting at another employee about this or that. My husband and daughter did not as much as touch the wrap, it contained the same crappy dark meat chicken, hard rice, and ingredients from the other section of the chicken grill(or kitchen). While this place sucked, it also closed mid day(right after I ordered), due to running out of things to cook. People are still coming in for lunch(hospital is next door) how do they not plan ahead? I know because I overheard the staff saying«out of food». As posted below(pics), the floors were disgusting, and the cafeteria uncared for. I will NEVER return there. $ 22 down the drain, ended up having to find a restaurant.

Quick place to grab lunch when you are on the medical campus at UM. My two favorite items include the chicken quesadilla and the chicken, rice, and beans bowl. If you are an employee at JMH, you can get the bowl for $ 5(with a soft drink included), which is awesome. They also have a deli and offer Cuban coffee as part of the café. The prices are reasonable, and the space is clean with plenty of seating.

2020 is conveniently located just outside of the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute(hence the name 2020). It is a great place for a quick and healthy lunch. The food is tasty and the employees are very friendly. Most people come for the rice, beans, and chicken bowl but quesadillas, sandwiches, and salads are also available.

This is a great spot for patients, employees or anyone visiting the UM medical campus. The service area is a bit small and can get very busy during the lunch hour rush but the employees are always nice and helpful, especially to patients or people who are in need of extra assistance.

$ 5 bowl of food is fast, tasty, and super filling. Up to you to make it healthy or not by what you add(cheese, guac, sour cream, corn, tomatoes, beans, lettuce etc). I’m a fan of the chipotle sauce! They definitely load on the sodium, though. Always thirsty and sleepy after I get this. But it’s a great value for the portions and taste of the food.

I come here all the time to get their rice and chicken bowl. For UM employees it’s only $ 4.99 for the bowl and a drink! The bowl is plenty of food in fact I usually have a bit left. The last couple of times they did not have the curry mustard sauce, but instead they had a cilantro garlic sauce which is still great. The line goes quickly and it fills my stomach without hurting my wallet.

for those of us that work on the jackson/um medical campus, this place is a little treasure. you get an employee discount(as long as you have your id), and the food is actually pretty tasty. you have your choice of a rice bowl(i always get yellow rice, black beans, bourbon chicken, corn and guacamole… oh YUM)… don’t like that? they’ve got freshly made sandwiches, or pre-made salads and wraps… my favorite thing has to be the giant cookies… so good. overall, it’s a fine place for lunch if you’re stuck at bascom palmer for hours waiting for your abuela, or if you work nearby… moderately priced… i can usually get lunch for $ 7 dollars or so…

This is a super convenient and reasonably priced café located just outside of the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at UM/Jackson Memorial Hospital. They have a Chicken Grill and Sushi Maki located inside and also offer a good variety of breakfast items in the morning and then switch to soup, salads, and sandwich’s in the afternoon. The place is always hopping with medical students and doctors as well as hospital visitors from the surrounding area. Conveniently, discounts are given to UM employees and students. The food is always fresh and the service is always speedy yet friendly. The seating area outside is huge, so there is always room even with the heavy traffic. All in all the place is a great alternative if you work in the area and are tired of the fastfood and cafeteria fare typically offered near hospitals.
