GenArt Vanguard continues to be my favorite gallery every year. This year, GenArt was stationed at Aqua, a much bigger and better venue than in 2008. They really deserve this space — so much more great art around every corner. The opening party was also fantastic. The bars were stocked, the music was fun, and the crowd was definitely interesting. I was sad that some of the artists in GenArt last year were nowhere to be seen — no Sas Christian? :( If I had to choose one gallery out of the many on Miami Beach and The Design District to purchase all my art from — it would definitely be GenArt.

There are several magazines that host Young Hollywood type of parties. If Art Basel had a young, fabulous, AND locals-centric party this would be it. It’s nearly impossible to not run into someone you know, someone you love, someone you used to love, and someone who will be a future love. ;-) But once you get beyond the lines for free drinks and the buzzing crowds of kisses on the cheeks and hugs to all, you can move along to the real deal aka the art. Reminiscent of Scope this fair brings a youthful energy. Curated by Franceso LoCastro in years past this year Vanguard scaled down but kept that modern hi/low vibe. I’d suggest checking out the party but then stopping in for a few on a slower, tamer, Saturday.

After the NADA exhibit I was thirsty for some art worth asking how much it costs. The Friday opening party was quiet the eye opening experience. First was the Wynwood scene, it seemed very Cuban Williamsburg to me which made me feel authentically trendy. The work and free drinks made this place 1000x’s better then my last art adventure. Sponsored by some yogurt company the only celebrity I saw was Venus Williams. The art was spectacular though these were the artists I had been wanting to see and it was just a breath of fresh air to see some nice work. There was even this laser writer that would let you do laser graffiti on the side of an adj ascent building. All in all it was a great show, a special shout out to the Stella Angels that would bring fresh cold beers around all night.

awesome! this was my favorite 2008 art basel exhibit… and the opening party was a lot of fun as well. the guys from graffiti lab research were making the crow trip out with their l.a.s.e.r. tag thingie … i was so excited to see a luke chueh!( ) LEBO’s works are always awesome. and the yogurt installation was pretty cool as well. peroni was the beer of choice or bombay sapphire gin. the bartenders were nice. which is always good at an open bar event. i went back saturday afternoon for a lecture that was given by the graffiti lab research guys. i was so impressed… and there was still a lot of gin to quench my thirst. ill definitely check this place out again next year. maria, thanks so much for the hook-up!

This was a really great party! Like Theo stated, the art gallery its self was pretty warm inside, so I didnt dare blend the hot atmosphere with creamy yogurt! The art was kicken, the music was great. LEBO was outside doin’ his thang on about a 15′ X10’ canvas. The Sapphire girls were hot, as were their white stilettos! It was a great party and gallery, and Im stoke that I was invited to such a great night! Thanks Maria!!!

Sponsored by a yogurt company, this was great for the first two hours before everyone found out about it and it got PACKED… Met up with Felecia W. and Jose Luis. Inside was a bit warm, but outside was perfect. The lazer painter was fun as was the live art(hopefully, Felecia can post the name of the artist). I agree with Elizabeth’s review in that this was also my favorite event. I just wish I had gotten there earlier to spend more time inside without the crowds. ps. The honey yogurt was good, but became awkward to carry around after the first bite.
