This is for all of my fellow Unilocalers who have experienced the absolutely dreadful long lines at the Bird Rd and 87 location… Come to this one! Ever since they opened it up, I’ve been coming here on a pretty regular basis to pick up food for my family. Man, they are QUICK here! Long line or short line, don’t expect to wait as long as the *other* pollo tropical. Plus, they have always gotten my order correct here and service is very friendly and attentive. The only thing is that sometimes(just sometimes) the yuca fries aren’t too fresh. Otherwise, this Pollo Tropical is golden.

I always try to avoid fast food places, I actually have become pretty good at it, but on this particular night, midnight was closing in and I was very hungry. Actually, being hungry was the least of my problems. My real dilemma was that I wanted to eat white rice and black beans, the staple of Cuban gastronomy. Close to midnight, in Miami, I felt that I was out of luck, not because we have a shortage of rice and beans, but because very few restaurants stay open past twelve o’clock. A quick check on my Unilocal app revealed a Pollo Tropical nearby that was open. I was hoping for Palacio de los Jugos, but the hours did not show. I figured, worse comes to worst, there is a Pollo Tropical across from Palacio de los Jugos. That would be my second option if Palacio was closed. And Palacio was closed. I used the drive-thru at Pollo. I can’t remember if the order was placed in English or Spanish. I picked up my order without wait, I was the only car driving-thru. I talked a bit to the Cuban girl at the window. Her name will remain classified. She was nice, friendly, professional, and maybe a little bit of a flirt. Maybe I am the flirt, I don’t know. My order was correct so I fled the scene. I got home and everything was good. I wolfed down a quarter white meat with rice and beans, and a side of fried yucca, cilantro/garlic sauce, and mojito sauce. I forgot to turn the lights on in the dinning room, only using the TV screen as my source of light. The food was good. I was dreading to get a piece of rubber instead of chicken, but for the time of the night, and the restaurant closing for the day, I got a pretty good meal. The yucca was fresh too, not a day old fried yucca that sits around waiting to end up at the bottom of a trash bag. And the cilantro/garlic sauce was delicious. Next time I want that quick Cuban food fix, and if I am running super late, I wouldn’t hesitate to stop by Pollo Tropical. The stuff was pretty good, quick, and cheap. I may stop again since I am not the type of person that eats at specific times of the day, and that is not related to age.
